  1. Honestly not a terrible idea given he's suddenly on the market. Even elevating Craig to co-host and bringing Glor in as News/Headline anchor wouldn't be terrible given he has the "breakfast show" experience with CTM Saturday, and "hard news" experience with Evening News. Also comes with at least *some* name recognition.
  2. I'm human and we can all make mistakes like put things in the wrong thread. Thanks for being perfect and taking the passive-aggressive way to help (and deleting your original gripe from the looks of it)!
  3. Not a new package, but WDIO/Duluth has updated their graphics... Simplifying and eliminating some of the animations from their previous Linear Drift open and adding blue/teal to their red/white/black scheme. The only things that gets me is that logo bug in the corner... Would moving the logo up and putting a standard time/temp under it be a better use of the space? Or are they recognizing that people can see the time on their phones?
  4. Just saw pics of the new Wheel of Fortune set on my Twitter feed... I get with having your first new host in decades, you usually want to go with a redesign, but this just feels devoid, cold, and cheap.
  5. She is also working with what CBS is allowing her to do... budgeting, creativity, and otherwise. I read somewhere that she wanted to revert to the 2008 theme, for example, which suggests that she believes in breaking the mandate to try and make some headway at WBBM, which we here know is unlikely at best to happen. Also, putting her in charge of fixing the mess in Detroit only detracts from the focus of working on Chicago.
  6. KCCW makes things tricky/interesting for areas in central and northern MN- Where I grew up, for example, Cable companies carried KCCW and (then) KDLH for CBS. Walker was geographically closer to us, but we were in the Duluth DMA. Unscientific claim, but in parts of MN where both KCCW and KBJR (or KVLY in select Western parts of KCCW's range), I'd bet good money that more people turn to the KCCW feed (hence that whole "Minnesota's Most Watched" claim for all those years).
  7. This has happened before for Fox stations in cities where the DNC is hosted. It's not because of the normal people attending the convention. It's because of the protesters who don't understand the difference between Fox Local and FNC Prime. More likely that WFLD's reporting is being used by other O&O's and affiliates. KMSP has their own reporter there covering Walz and they have their Fox 9 mic flag on.
  8. John Lansing, former news director at KARE, WCCO and WBBM, later the CEO of National Public Radio has died at 67, just months after his retirement. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/chicago/news/john-lansing-cbs-npr-obit/
  9. Just something I noticed this morning on WCCO's page- a Co-branded "Day of Service" with Xcel Energy... With the old "4" logo? (Which is odd because even with that logo, WCCO almost always placed the call letters underneath it) Oversight on someone's part?
  10. I'm sure it happens more and more every election by every party, but WDAY-AM (Fargo) is accusing the Harris Campaign of using the station's URL and fabricating headlines (per The Forum) in Google Ads. What's interesting to me is all of this clears Google's ad policies. Not uncommon for campaigns to use media clips, but is something like this becoming common across the board? WDAY Radio Statement Headline 1 In Question Headline 2 In Question Disclosure- WDAY-AM and The Forum are co-owned by Forum Communications, although WDAY-AM is operated by Flag Family Media.

  11. Copying and pasting some of the release since Forum has a paywall. First Forum has dealt with NBC in decades since swapping for ABC in Fargo. Forum Communications Company is expanding once again in South Dakota. The acquisition will enhance Forum Communications’ ability to serve residents throughout South Dakota and to be a trusted news source for the state, said Josh Rohrer, vice president of broadcasting for Forum Communications. “Combining the excellence of KNBN’s existing local news with the experience and reputation of Forum Communications will help to create a new home for the very best in local news, weather and sports in South Dakota,” Rohrer said. KNBN is the only independently-owned TV network affiliate in South Dakota. That will remain the case, Rohrer said, but this acquisition creates an opportunity for expanded reach and impact. The acquisition includes certain satellite stations delivering KNBN’s signal to the entire Rapid City DMA, according to a Forum Communications press release. Viewers can also expect collaboration with Sioux Falls Live/ KSFL-TV and the Mitchell Republic on stories of statewide importance, Rohrer said. “We have big plans in South Dakota,” said Mary Jo Hotzler, chief content officer for Forum Communications. “Mitchell has long been a news leader in the state and is unmatched when it comes to high school sports coverage. Sioux Falls has quickly become a go-to source for news and sports, especially the (SDSU) Jackrabbits, and we are excited about adding Rapid City. This is just the beginning for us in the state.” The acquisition of KNBN is subject to receipt of regulatory and other approvals.
  12. Because there wasn't.
  13. Alix Kendall is leaving KMSP (Minneapolis-St. Paul) in September after 25 years of anchoring the Morning News. Says it's not a retirement but focusing on "a new chapter" which will include screenwriting. https://www.fox9.com/news/alix-kendall-retirement-fox-9-morning-news?utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwY2xjawEm995leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHZCao4ih4crmkgCmyGwoOJZ3xQMw3m9LNZufoWS-CLU691tU6-o2HOaUDA_aem_UoJYZOJWDdJPTHBwI46fqQ
  14. I knew that, but didn't have enough coffee this morning. Thank you for the clarfication!
  15. I feel like NBC (especially Today) has been less invested in the Olympics the past few go-arounds. This year, Savannah was there a couple days early, Hoda joined for the Opening Ceremony, Al and Craig joined later; and now they're already back in 1A. Didn't it seem that they used to be there start to finish? Or was that likely more so they didn't have a 1A to go back to until the construction was done? Or that the Today team had more duties with opening/closing ceremony broadcasts in the past?
  16. Going to take a shot on this- since many stations have taken the wraps off of their news vehicles in recent years, there needs to be some way to identify a working news vehicle in a heavily urbanized area like Chicago where parking ramps/meters are regularly enforced, and news vehicles may be in a parking sport for far longer than normally permitted depending on the story. It doesn't give them the okay to park the truck/van wherever (i.e. can't park in an ADA space or the sidewalk) but keeps them from getting ticketed or towed for not feeding the meter.
  17. That, and many other questions. They were back on in time for morning news- and watching their Mid-Morning show now, they admitted that while they're back on the air, not all systems are back up. The last commercial break was a loop of radar and weather maps along with what looked like some of the idents that get thrown in for breaks on the streamer... Can you imagine some 12 hours and counting of no spots running? Pour the traffic department a drink or five!
  18. Update: They took to Facebook live for the 10:00 news and explained that the backups failed. But go them for bringing in reporters to go over their stories for the night, and Chris Schaffer did the weather with a paper map!
  19. An engineer’s worst nightmare- especially right before the late news. Station is black screened. My only question is does CBS not have a generator to at least let basic operations continue?
  20. Noticed new opens tonight on KARE- not sure if it’s temporary for the Olympics, or (based on what we’ve seen from WXIA) if KARE is trying some of the new corporate look. Either way, nice update for them! Music is currently a cut of NBC’s Olympics theme. A side part of the studio away from the main desk has been given a Parisian look, and was used for the majority of the newscasts tonight.
  21. It was brought up as he was wrapping up with their correspondent at the White House and the pool comment was in the context that since ABC was the pool the reporter David was talking to got to be one of the few people in the Oval Office to witness the "historical night" in person. I didn't get any bragging attempt from it.
  22. Let's save some time here- Most markets have an established newscast in that timeslot that would likely beat the NBC affiliate's fledgling entry. WGN>WMAQ, KTLA>KNBC, WITI>WTMJ, WVUE>WDSU, the list goes on. Is it set in stone anywhere that it has to be a newscast in the timeslot, or could smaller markets opt to run a true crime/Dateline syndication? Does a larger owner like Gray produce more InvestigateTV pieces for their affiliates to differentiate their newscasts in that timeslot?
  23. Correct.
  24. I'm sure if there was still a co-ownership, there would be a greater effort to ensure the copy is updated to make sure "CBS Chicago" is what's mentioned. Otherwise, the radio side, as you mentioned, is just like the average person- it will take time to normalize the new name.
  25. I guess my thinking as the coverage was continuing was that CNN, unlike MSNBC, is trying to get back to that point where they are the channel people turn to when big news breaks- given the size and scope of the event, CNN thought bringing in their notable hosts (Blitzer, Anderson, et al) would be worth it to keep eyeballs on their coverage? MSNBC also has the advantage, as previously mentioned, of drawing from the mothership whenever they want during breaking news. I have to say, from channel surfing as the news unfolded, while most networks held their own, I did find it notable that CNN and NBC brought in their main anchors shockingly quick (although, to CBS and ABC's credit, their respective anchors held their own).
