Fox Television Stations - General Thread
mer764KCTV5 replied to ColDayNews's topic in Corporate Chat
My Fox Station and former O&O WDAF-TV (Channel 4) in Kasnas City, have been in the same building since 1949, and it's in pretty good condition. -
Wow, they really did change. I doesn't look like an New York Clear-Channel Television station anymore.
-
Yeet that man's broadcast license. But no seriously, the fact that he doesn't allow WADL-TV to be an major factor due to greed to the point he threw away an WHOLE $75 Million offer from Mission Broadcasting exactly explains what type of person he is. That and making WFDF (The other broadcast NON-Cable/Television property he owns) from an African-American focused talk station which could compete against iHeartMedia-owned Black Infomation Network and WDFN, BIN's Detroit Affiliate, to just an ordinary conservative talk station, which is really dumb since they have to compete with WDTK (albeit the signal is better on WFDF than on WDTK) and WJR. WJR is literally an Clear-Channel Station. On 760AM. WJR's signal is protected—by the Federal Communications Commission—at Night-time. WFDF have to also compete with an clear-channel station. Seriously, Adell?? Also, I probably think that racketeering is an felony, so there's a chance he might lose WFDF and WADL-TV. (Also, the article doesn't mention his ownership to WADL-TV)

Doing an small bump to remind Y'all that the deal to sell WJMN-TV outta Escanaba–Marquette, Michigan has been approved by the FCC. (Check the Michigan section.)
-
Also, can we not forget the other stations dropping the CW on Sept 1? Just saying.
-
Yea, bit that's an example of "cable-only in that market station" Also, Cable providers are probably not going to spend time putting the CW+ and put WTVX from Fort Pierce-West Palm Beach or WXCW from Naples-Ft. Myers in Miami, Florida cable systems. And in Tuscon, it'll put KAZT from Phoenix-Prescott, Arizona.

Glendive relays on TV station in Billings for ABC, Fox (and MyNetworkTV) and The CW+ (That and PBS, but we're talking about Commercial stations.) Even KXGN-TV has some newscasts from KTVQ (Q2) on 5.1 and KULR-TV on 5.2 Both KTVQ and KULR are in Billings. The networks are probably more smarter than in 1994 surrounding ownership-induced affiliation swaps.

Okay? Mostly what I said was more of a rant because I don't understand the hate against Nexstar. I am sorry for some of the stuff I said and yes, you are entitled to your opinion. But no seriously, I don't think the FCC would waste time forcing cable providers to put the CW+ as part of the Must-carry rules. That's probably not the choice the FCC facing. I also don't think anyone (WBSF, WLAJ-DT2) is going to put an translator in the Detroit market (How would that work?) Mostly, I'm saying the more viable option is though WDIV-TV 4.2, it might not work, but it could work. Also, they only got into the larger markets around 2017-2019 with the Media General deal in 2017 and the Tribune Media deal in 2019 so that could be the reason. That or he's lazy.
-
I wonder what KCTV5 would be doing on their 5.3 subchannel since This TV is gone.
-
Exactly. Graham is going to put it in the CoziTV Channel (WDIV-TV 4.2) ... Do I have to even explain? This community thinks Nexstar is the devil, Perry Sook should never have been hired at WOWK and WPXI, and other stuff. And you literally say "And is this a bad thing?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? DID YOU NOT SEE THE WORDING ON THE WALL??? Like, Look. You and I are on the same page since we both live in Nexstar-Owned Fox Affiliates. (WJW and WDAF.) The only reason why Nexstar even aquired it is because both stations since the 1980s was aquired by multiple companies For WJW: KKR, Gillett, SCI, New World. For WDAF-TV: Taft, Great American/Citicasters, New World. Both WJW and WDAF-TV: New World, Fox, LocalTV, Tribune [Almost SINCLAIR], and now Nexstar. So yea, you hate Nexstar, that's why I said that, and please don't dare reply to me, okay?

Oh yea, I forgot that how dumb Kevin the idiot Adell is. I don't think an reputable broadcaster would want to do anything, I'm not doing anything to an magic wand, I'm just saying that Adell should've shutted it down since he did nothing to help that station, including destroying an $75 million deal. The most viable option is WDIV. Which is not going to work that well, I suppose thinking about it. Even if they put it on their .2 subchannel. The CW loses coverage in Detroit. *Womp Womp* Congrats Nexstar, You have no shame causing this.
-
*Ahem* No one in the right world will ever put The CW Plus, IN A TOP 25 MARKET, NOT EVEN NEXSTAR would put in NewsNation. This is not WGN-TV in the Mid-1990s with the WB. That's an idea, that can work... Why would Graham not help with the CW in Detroit??? So they do that own the CW station in Jacksonville, Florida? (WCWJ, the former WJKS, Channel 17) I also don't think even Daystar, or the Tri State Christian Television (TCT) would even focus on WADL-TV. No-one, chances are, he's gonna probably shut the station down, for all it takes.

?? WLKY is an Hearst station. Do you mean WAVE3? -
Honestly, What the heck is going on here? Adell and WADL is not gonna make an LMA with Nexstar or Mission. At this point, it should've just made an deal with Sinclair and made it an day. Look, The CW will have an affiliate in Detroit, Miami and Tuscon, no matter the cost. WDIV already kinda cleared the way by dropping ThisTV and putting on CoziTV, probably and possibly as an substitute before September 1. I don't know about any of the Tuscon or Miami stations plans on the CW. And just for the whole Perry Sook case, I would rather have him own WDAF-TV and the St. Louis Duopoly of KTVI-KPLR than let Sinclair even have its hands on the stations, because at least with Nexstar, none of the stations are bankrupt or at least went near-bankrupt, or shuted down any of the news departments, but Sinclair did all of that and more. I mean, SINCLAIR could've killed off KSMO-TV for all it took, and it lost the chance of the CW because of that and was only saved because KCTV5 and the MEREDITH CORPORATION MADE AN DEAL TO AQUIRE KSMO. And for KDNL..... Do I have to explain it to y'all? Google it. Holy WTOK, I'm losing brain cells. (Sorry if it went off-topic kinda quick, I just had to rant)
-
Whoops. I think I made an calculation error.
-
It's less funnier for me as an Missourian to see Alpha Media do these changes because they could change WIBW-AM in nearby Kansas at any moment and how they are literally erasing anything local to their stations in Missouri. That and Townsquare literally turning in radio stations to the FCC and/or shutting then down. So yea, I'd expect the FCC to do nothing about the ownership caps for TV but will for radio even if it might be controversial. And again, at least some buyers exists for Television that isn't God-Broadcasters. Radio however, not so much.
-
I don't hate Nexstar per se. They could've been better but I haven't seen an lot of negative changes on WDAF-TV or on the Topeka stations (KSNT, KTMJ-CD, and KTKA) I just think it would be funny if Hearst decided to aquire WPIX. It's not realistic, but it would be interesting. I think the problem isn't the transmitter land but more about where would the affiliations go to after the stations folded. And in 2016-2018, television companies would sell of spectrum but it'll make almost no sense sometimes. For example, The full-power WAGT, Media General (then-owner of WJBF) and Gray Television (owners of WRDW-TV) was having this battle over who would control WAGT after Gray aquired most of the television properties of Schutz Communications which Gray won. Then for no reason other than spectrum reasons, they shutted down THE FULL POWER STATION, putted the programing on a LPTV and somehow got people in outer parts of Augusta, Georgia the inability to see NBC and The CW programming unless you were looking at it on 12.3. (and made The CW stuck on an low-power without any reason.)
-
Exactly. With all of the stuff going on in the world right now, I don't think in any way, Joe Biden is going to focus on the ownership caps.

Bold of you to think that the WBBH and WZVN should've been sold for $75 million. It's an vital path to the safety of the market. Its in 2nd Place like what I've previously mentioned. Like, without the television stations and the radio station in the Fort Myers/Naples/Cape Coral, Florida market, the hurricane damage could've gotten way, way, worse. I mean, it made sense why Hearst would aquire the station given the fact of the respectively of the company. Also, the fact it's located in Florida, an deep red state doesn't really matter in this case, KMBC-TV in Kansas City, Missouri serves Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri, both Kasnas and Missouri are considered Deep-Red uncompetitive states and yet, it's not an big deal. What? They generally revamped WZVN from an joke in the market as WEVU to an respectable station, and you're saying they OVERPAID for the station and WBBH? Edith Waterman if she looks at this is probably going to be disappointed that you're saying it was/is an declining asset. The E. W. Scripps Company, as much as people HATE them, have been and still in a way, is considered an pioneer. And for the Hearst Corporation, it could be again, be considered an pioneer for its time in the early 20th century with the yellow journalism, which is now used on stories almost everywhere now in the 21st century thanks to Bill Applegate (who once worked for WEWS) and WSVN (which isn't owned by Hearst but the idea of yellow journalism is there left right and center since 1989) Sinclair isn't right now really is an respected company due to the amount of BS it does (See KTUL in Tusla, WNWO in Toledo, and literally almost all stations they own, including former stations like KSMO-TV.) While Nexstar, it was created in 1996 with the first being owned/operated being WYOU in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It's an upstart company, yes, and Perry Sook, worked for WPXI in Pittsburgh and WOWK in Huntington–Charleston, West Virginia before the 1980s ended. I think he would end up owning WDKY in Danville–Lexington, Kentucky and KOCB in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the Mid-1990s before he sold them off to Sinclair. So Sook does have broadcast experience. I'm actually more confused on how and why y'all hate Nexstar, like I haven't seen that much changes on my Fox Station owned by them, so it's kinda like somehow someone on an curtain blog that I won't and can't mention caused all the hate on Nexstar. That and Tegna as well, but that's an whole different story.

How in the Florida was WBBH an 'waste of money' for Hearst? Hearst acquired it and WZVN because Waterman Broadcasting wanted to sell the stations off before Edith Waterman turned 100. And plus, it isn't an 'waste of money'. it's in 2nd place behind WINK-TV (Channel 11), ONWED by the family of the founder of the ORIGINAL CLEVELAND BROWNS, Mickey McBride. Also, I like how no-one even notices that WZVN, albeit owned by Montclair Communications, is operated by Hearst.
