WNYW - FOX5 News

Well, it's official. Juliet Huddy is out at Fox 5. Teresa Priolo and Kerry Drew anchored GDWU this morning, and Juliet came on at 6:55 to give a nice goodbye. I am really sorry to see her go, but happy that Fox 5 let her say goodbye on air.

There was something off about her departure. First of all, the timing of her departure in regards to Ailes' resignation definitely has relevance on this situation. Juliet was deeply entrenched in Fox News for nearly two decades.

Her goodbye was also very odd. She didn't anchor but they had her on at the end of the show? That's quite uncommon.

Juliet brought a veteran presence to the early morning and she will be missed.

Perhaps by some.

and not by others..

Personally I was never a fan...

I'd love to see Theresa succeed her...not sure about the male counterpart, if there is one..

Pretty sure she left a whole lot richer that day.

Pretty darn sure.

That makes no sense. If the game went til like 1am Eastern, they might have a case, but they were done well before midnight. Should be interesting to see what they do tomorrow, with the game starting an hour earlier.

They did the same thing last year if I remember correctly. How many sporting events or awards shows have there been that have run till midnight and other stations went on air live?

Thursday Night Football, Saturday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, and the Oscars frequently go that late, just to name a few.

They did the same practice back in June. And I've even said back then that was uncalled for.

What is their logic in airing a pre-recorded broadcast if the game go past a certain time? Can't the anchors and crew to stay past a certain time anymore? They might as well not air any news at all if they want to do that.

It's absurd for the largest Fox station in the country to do this practice. News could be breaking at anytime that warrants a live broadcast. The station ain't all that cheap.

Really there prerecording a newscast after the World Series I dont care whose playing it should be live

Playing devil's advocate here:

Assuming like any other station, they have at least a reporter and staff on hand or on standby should something serious enough happen that warrants breaking in after midnight (or after 11pm, in WNYW's case).... Aren't you essentially getting the same newscast anyway? Why does have to be live just for the sake of being live? That's equivalent to sending the reporter to do alive shot outside of a courthouse that closed 6 hours earlier.

Finally, how is this any different from what all three broadcast network news divisions do? After all, viewers out west usually get a 3 hour old morning and evening newscast with little or no updates except for days when there's breaking news or a story affecting the west.

Again, just playing devil's advocate. I'm a fan of having it done live but if they feel they can save money and offer the same newscast, then why not?

It's not really an issue with the talent because it's already built into the contract or Personal Service Agreement(PSA) to stay late in most cases.

The problem is that nobody wants to pay the tech crews(union mostly) overtime.

NYC pays tech the most in the country, and so the bean counters with the pointy heads have to decide in advance where to budget O.T.

Since all these shows now often run late...somebody has to decide where it's competitive to run a live late show, or run canned. Some idiot gets paid a lot of money...to keep those OT hours down to a minimum.

Good for them! I was hoping Antwan would get this spot for quite a while he's great in the mornings and Taresa has grown on me since she started. I hope they give Christina a co-anchor on weekends while she is good solo I prefer a 2 anchor newscast.
