24994J 5593
"The Revolution", ABC's replacement for the canceled "One Life to Live" is now facing its own demise. With it's exit, ABC will air a 9-week afternoon edition of Good Morning America over the summer until Katie Couric's appropriately-titled "Katie" debuts in September. Newsreader Josh Elliott and "lifestyle anchor" Lara Spencer are expected to host with weatherman Sam Champion contributing. With Katie now presumably airing in the 2/1pm time slot, fans of "General Hospital" can celebrate the soap's renewal. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/good-morning-america-expanding-to-the-afternoon_b121545 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11849-gma-adding-3rd-hour-to-afternoon/ Share on other sites
Spring Rubber 705
It's going to be a live show according to the site? I'm surprised they would keep the morning anchors around that late into the afternoon. 24994J 5593
According to some other more up-to-date articles, it seems like the 3rd hour will be taped immediately following the live show at 9am, and aired on delay. However, in cases of important news, they would most likely do the show live...which actually makes sense financially. mre29 1541
I wonder if they'll call it Good Afternoon America... ...nah, that'd make too much sense. They'll probably call it Good Morning America - Afternoon Edition or something equally awkward. But what ever it's only for a few months.. Sounds a lot like WTMJ (Milwaukee-NBC). Just news programming: 4:30-5:00 Early Today 5:00-7:00 TMJ4 News 7:00-9:00 Today 10:00-11:00 Today 12:00-1:00 TMJ4 News 3:00-5:30 TMJ4 News 5:30-6:00 NBC Nightly News 6:00-6:30 TMJ4 News 10:00-10:35 TMJ4 News And that's not just for a few months - that's normal. 10.5 hours a day of news programming. 4 hours national, 6.5 hours local. Dayside programming is almost exclusively news, with an hour for Days of our Lives, an hour for Access Hollywood Live, and an hour for a local infotainment program. Ehh, no, that's actually an infomercial posing as legitimate programming, right? trev57 46
Ehh, no, that's actually an infomercial posing as legitimate programming, right? Basically, with the hosts taking about 10 minutes (if that) out of the hour to talk about local current events. The amazing thing is that it gets good enough ratings to be in a race for first with Real Milwaukee (WITI) and ahead of Live with Kelly (WISN) and Let's Make a Deal (WDJT). Close..."GMA in the Afternoon" Nope, mre turned out to be right - the interim show will indeed be named "Good Afternoon America". Because it makes sense, dammit. jtgh922 18
Soaps are on their last legs all around. And with Good Afternoon America doing so well in the ratings, wouldn't be surprised if General Hospital gets the boot by ABC. Talk shows are cheaper to produce and generally grab more eyeballs. TVNewsLover 783
Where did you read that GAA is doing well in the ratings? I've read the opposite! MorningNews 1474
GAA has averaged close to 2 million viewers every day surpassing the networks expectations and cost less to produce than General Hospital. It's definitely going to become a permanent installment of ABC daytime. TVNewsLover 783
Surpassing expectations and doing well in the ratings are not the same. GAA is down 70% from OLTL's ratings last year at this time is what I've read. That being said, GAA is cheaper to produce and therefore is probably more costworthy to keep. Personally, I think ABC should cancel their 4pm newscasts, put Katie there, and then put GAA at 3pm, and keep GH at its new 2pm time (all eastern).
