Fox Television Stations switching to WorldNow websites

The current sites actually lag Chrome pretty badly.

That's nothing, try accessing the MyFox websites on Firefox using a dial-up connection, the browser will go into a severe deep freeze. It happened quite a few times while I was using the internet at a relative's house, who had dial-up as a cheaper alternative.

Try the WorldNow sites on mobile. I randomly tried KXnet (they recently switched to WN too recently) on my Android phone for kicks, the web site it gave me was designed for a freaking feature phone.

The station probably doesn't have the mobile redirects set up correctly.

Seems like a lot of companies are at least partially working with WorldNow these days. They handle back-end tasks and media for a lot of the CBS O&O sites and even WHDH/WSVN are using them now.

The new WNYW site is live...an improvement, but nothing amazing.

I actually think it's really smartly designed and easy to look at; not something you can say for the previous designs.

Yeah, I think more sites are using them now because they have improved their design strategy quite a bit. Their video technology is also well-made for today's much higher computer resolutions and faster internet streaming.

Well, you can add KDFW to the list.

In true Fox Chicago fashion, some of the pages on their site have switched over to the new look, the others are the old format, and some are using both formats.

For example...

WAGA, too: http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/. Overall, I like the refresh, it's a bit less cluttered. Plus, WAGA's site relauch means that every English-language news-producing station website in Atlanta has relaunched in some form since last year.

And two of them with WorldNow to boot.

Now could WAGA stop being so damn cheap and bring back their weekend streaming of FOX5 newscasts like they do on the weekdays.

Sorry to bump the thread, but I did find one flaw with the WorldNow-powered MyFox websites that should be noted. The streaming players on most of the sites tend to shut off and revert to the play button display during the newscast and breaking news live streams. This evening, I watched WFLD's 9 p.m. newscast online for the first time (just to see what the other users on this site have been talking about the newscast's quality, or lack thereof as others have stated) and the player shut off three times during the stream. The same situation occurs with KTTV and WNYW's players as well, KDFW doesn't really have this problem, though I don't think that they use the Microsoft Silverlight platform as the other Fox Television Stations do. In order to put the player back on play, you either have to refresh the page or toggle the play button in the toolbar (on WFLD's site, pressing the play button on the video portion of the player when it shuts off doesn't seem to get it playing again, like on WNYW and KTTV's sites). The strange thing is that CBS Television Stations' websites also use Silverlight for their streaming players, but they play fine without the same hiccups as the Fox stations.

I've also noticed that when viewing longer-form segments on the sites, such as celebrity interviews from Good Day L.A. (which can last up to seven minutes), the entire video landing refreshes itself towards the end of the video, disrupting the video being played on an individual page. Refreshing the page automatically makes sense when you're on pages with only news stories but require selecting pages to view video of the story, but it's annoying to have to watch a particular story or segment over again because the entire site refreshed.
