SF1964 63
Lauren Casey is joining KYW from WCCO. http://www.startribune.com/wcco-tv-meteorologist-leaving-for-job-with-philly-station/320905751/ Lauren just tweeted that she'll be starting Saturday morning (Oct 3) on CBS 3. Guest Newshound
My question is, if lauren casey is the weekend morning meteorologist, what becomes of kyla grogan? She's been doing weekend mornings for a while. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13098-the-cbs-3-eyewitness-news-thread/page/7/#findComment-136371 Share on other sites

PhillyWatch 239
Don't know if it has happened before (and it should most definitely happen again) but I caught the tail end of the 6pm show tonight and Jim Donovan was co-anchoring. From his work a few years back anchoring their live coverage of the "duckboat" accident on the Delaware to his work with Pat during their Pope-cast, Jim is pretty much the Brian Taff of their stable. I'd love to see them head-to-head at 10! Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13098-the-cbs-3-eyewitness-news-thread/page/7/#findComment-136769 Share on other sites

I'd love to see them head-to-head at 10! Jim Gardner didn't do the 6PM news tonight, otherwise we would've had a Jim trifecta of anchors tonight--Rosenfield, Donovan and Gardner. Gardner is on now at 11, but Donovan is not. I thought Jim Donovan did a pretty good job, too. Besides Ukee, I think the only other male anchor I've seen on CBS 3 since Chris May left was Todd Quinones. Dustin 0
Sad news from Pat Ciarrocchi on Facebook: On September 27th, just before 8PM, Pope Francis and Shepherd One were wheels up bound for the next chapter in his Papacy. As I watched in that moment, I felt my wheels lift up too... bound for the next chapter in a career that has had me anchored here for more than 33 years. During Francis 36 hours in Philadelphia, we achieved greatness. Together, we told the story of hope, forgiveness, and could hear a personal challenge to allow our best selves to come forth. We laughed, we cried, and for me, it became a near miraculous culmination of a television career that was never built on the crime that is often our stock in trade... but a desire to find the redeeming, the inspirational, the humanity in what surrounds us. I know you all have lots of questions. There isn’t a back story, just a decision. I so want to do more with my life. And I need freedom to do that. The Francis visit has empowered me with the strength to forge a path that is certain to use my voice. I believe it includes new business and community opportunities. I have been shaped by my faith, my family, and my passion for telling a good story. Thank you for the privilege of doing that work here. I will anchor the Noon until Thursday, October 15th. I will be around the 16th to wrap up details and then, David and I are headed to Italy for two weeks. Remember… in all you do... no matter how mundane, trying to make slot while rebooting a computer, stretching three facts into ten minutes of live coverage or a cranky colleague - look up. It is there that you will find the Light to lead you. TheRolyPoly 2416
Another Philly great, out the door. As much as KYW did well in Pope coverage, they still are dealing with exodus in talent. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13098-the-cbs-3-eyewitness-news-thread/page/7/#findComment-136969 Share on other sites
LVForward 94
I remember meeting Pat Ciarrocchi back in the late 1980's. She gave a lecture at my college in Wilmington, DE. Yes, she was, and is one of DE's favorite daughters - but what stands out still to this day is her natural charm and ease delivering a message on-air or in person. What you saw on TV was what you got in person, as well. She has a real charm that pulls you in. I will greatly miss her on-air presence at KYW. It is sad to see a once mighty news powerhouse reduced to what it has become today. Their focus on ratings, and profit has replaced a once honorable focus on journalism. Whether you think of the days of "Camelot" and Jessica Savitch or more recent notables like Larry Kane and Diane Allen, or even Larry Mendte (before his fall from grace) - these were world-class newscasters/journalists who truly deserved their place at the anchor desk in the 4th largest market in the US. Today, we see a team of youth and/or B-rate talent with low salaries protecting the profits. We see a team of pretty boy/girl faces meant to bring in the youthful target market viewership with little to no regard for journalistic integrity. Some of them may become good journalists in 20 years or so when they actually may deserve their seat at the grown-ups table. Pat, we will miss you and all you represent as a journalist. You have truly earned all the kudos and respect of a grateful Philadelphia. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13098-the-cbs-3-eyewitness-news-thread/page/7/#findComment-137308 Share on other sites

Is it still two days solo and three days with Nicole? Oh yeah, I forgot. I just heard from what Erica and Nicole said this morning. Speaking of the mornings situation, it's Nicole. I'm sure it's a schedule like that, but from the past few days I've watched, Erica was joined by Nicole. Action Newsroom 1281
I will say on Pat is that she is one of the most professional and humble personalities I've had the pleasure of watching throughout my life. She's sweet, lovely and vivacious, yet smart, tough and extremely classy. She can surely make a newscast one to watch. She and Ukee were (and still are) one of the best TV pairing in Philadelphia TV history--Their chemistry was undeniable and fantastic. Philadelphia (TV and in general) will certainly miss her. I will miss her. I wish the best in her future endeavors and in retirement. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13098-the-cbs-3-eyewitness-news-thread/page/7/#findComment-137357 Share on other sites
SF1964 63
I watched the noon newscast today. Ukee was on, too, and introduced a video presentation of Pat's career on KYW. I don't think it's on this clip, but Pat spoke to the audience and thanked everyone and cried a bit. http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/show/latest-video/video-3307254-cbs-3-says-goodbye-to-pat-ciarrocchi/ Philly.com has Pat's comments up now. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/entertainment/television/Pat-Ciarrocchis-tearful-goodbye-to-CBS-3-It-has-been-a-privilege.html Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13098-the-cbs-3-eyewitness-news-thread/page/7/#findComment-137363 Share on other sites
TVNewsLover 779
A little odd, but CBS 3 just aired a story from KCRA (Hearst-owned) in Sacramento, where they have a sister station in KOVR. That's pretty normal in the industry... It probably came from CNN Newsource. Producers usually don't give a shit whether or not a "sister station" did a package on the same story... They just grab the first one they see or will readily admit the other station's is a better package. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13098-the-cbs-3-eyewitness-news-thread/page/7/#findComment-137663 Share on other sites

SF1964 63
Anyone notice they now have Kate Bilo sitting on the far left of the desk, near Ukee, and Don Bell sitting on the right, near Jessica? Isn't the weather center/green screen on the far right of the set? LVForward 94
The other night they had Jessica and Ukee in opposite seats. If the best they can do is play musical chairs I give little chance to them returning to the glory days. Seat assignments are something to be tested out off-air. That was just Busch League - not something done in one of the largest markets in the country.
