KTVA reveals new station

Great behind-the-scenes look at an awesome rebirth of that station. Love that they're cutting on Adobe Premiere, and I'm hearing 615's Icon package in there. Graphics look like a version of the Hothaus package that KYW and KOVR used for a while before going to the standard CBS O&O looks.

I wonder what our resident former Alaskan and KTVA alum thinks about all of this...?

Yes! Adobe Premiere rocks. It's been my go-to editor for some time now.

EDIT: OH MY GOD THAT WEBSITE. ...web fonts! responsiveness! HTML5 Video! Color-coded stories! An infinite scrolling homepage! Text at larger, more readable sizes! WORDPRESS AND BOOTSTRAP!!!

KTVA, Inque Studios, you might be isolated from the rest of us, but you just taught every other station in America how it should be done. This is the nicest, most usable television news website I have ever used.

This is what TV news websites should look like.

That website is

PERFECTION.

Overall, it is just the most impressive local news site I have ever seen. Seriously; it looks more like the type of design you would see on a blog-type site than a traditional local news portal; and that's good. The entire portal model is dated, this is what everyone needs to do, now. Sinclair, no wait, everyone, can you please get in touch with these guys for god's sake? And how it does the weather is also very cool.

Only real problem is that it's slow as molasses.

KTVA is finally in the 21st century. That set is awesome, the graphics are good (or stunning compared to what they were using before). They are no longer in that cramped shack they had been in since sign-on. The website is decent, it needs some getting used to (the homepage keeps scrolling and doesn't stop, I don't care for that web trend honestly, it crashes my browser every so often). The one thing I LOVE about it, is that they have the bios of a lot of their behind the scenes personnel as well, which I like because it says that the people behind the camera are just as important as those in front of it (though it's probably there to give the impression they have a large on-air team, which they don't). Now Alaska has two legit news stations.

Wait a minute though, did they restore morning and weekend news? I remember under the waning months of MediaNews ownership, they dropped all newscasts outside of weekday evening. If they did bring them back they're back in the game.

It'd be nice now if KYUR would make upgrades. Their master control plant is in HD (allowing them to air anything non-network in HD, a step in the right direction) but news is still SD and news production equipment is outdated from the 80's/90's.

That happens with WordPress sites a lot. I keep getting this issue on the sites I make. I know I can optimize it.

Wow I guess I don't know a lot about TV websites then, because I personally don't like it.

What I do LOVE though is their set and exterior of the station. For some reason, I noticed how it's white, matching the frigid, snowy Alaskan landscape.

I'm incredibly jealous, and happy for my friends who are still there. When I was growing up local news in AK rivaled that of a top 40 market in terms of quality reporting and technology. That has lagged behind in recent years, especially on the technology side. I'm so happy to see this huge investment and local ownership again. If it weren't for the long winters I would probably be back there right now. Maybe someday!

Mornings: No

Weekends: Yes

In case anyone was wondering, here is what the new graphics look like for KTVA. They remind me a bit of KYW's old graphics package before their graphics got standardized.

It looks like it *is* KYW's old graphics with a few tweaks, which seems like an interesting choice. Those graphics are seven years old now, but I suppose they still look pretty nice, and I'm not entirely sure whether what the O&Os have is that much better anyway.

Heck, I think those ARE (a variation) of the KYW graphics.

It's a good look, but the talent need to loosen up.

It is a good look (especially compared to what they had before). Not the best cuts of Icon News but compared to how KCTV handles them, it's not too bad.
