Who the f*** came up with that bogus name? I mean there many names under that company umbrella they could go by.

USA Today digital news service Inc

Gannett Media Holdings Inc,

Gannett Television Broadcasting

Gannett Services

Gannett Digital Media

All the stations in the company could be; WXIA-TV copyright 2015 a division of Gannett Television

Anything but Tegna which sounds like a car that Toyota will debut in 2017.

Why is the television company getting the crappy name? Conventional logic and other deals have stuck the new name on the sinking ship that is their print division.

At least in the selloff of the Washington Post, the family owner name "Graham" was kept for the remaining holdings.

If you think about it, the name "Multimedia" was way ahead of its time. They disappeared into Gannett just as the World Wide Web was creeping into our lives. Seeing as how diversified the industry has become between interactive and traditional media...it makes sense.

Because it would be silly to reuse either the "Multimedia," "Combined" or "Pacific and Southern" names.

Or even Belo in this case....

It's actually not as silly as y'all might think. Sometimes it makes sense. For example, if Hearst Corp. were to split, its digital media arm would be called "Argyle Television Holdings III" as there have already been 2 predecessor companies of Hearst by nearly the same name.
