rkolsen 1686 Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Gwen Ifill passed away today in hospice at 61 after battling uterine cancer. Gwen was the coanchor of the PBS News Hour and Washington Week. Action Newsroom 1300 Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 The fact that this news (and her illness) came so suddenly is just utterly heartwrenching. My condolences to her family.
Guest Former Member 207 Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 A great journalist, and even better role model for Black women working in journalism. Rest in peace...
TennTV1983 807 Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Go away, 2016. You're terrible. And drunk. This news is definitely a shocker to happen so suddenly following what was a very stressful election year. I've only seen a couple of PBS Newshour shows, so I'm not sure what kind of person she was. All being said, many condolences to her family and Godspeed.
TheRob 938 Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 She was supposed to speak at my alma mater earlier this year, but unfortunately was too sick to attend.
Eat News 4745 Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 She was a fine woman, with many dear friends. She will be missed.
scrabbleship 429 Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 At what point as a society do we declare war on cancer?
TexasTVNews 1378 Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 The PBS Newshour is now doing a full tribute to Gwen right now I'm looking at my home station KERA. TVNT offers our prayers and condolences to Gwen's family and her extended family at The PBS Newshour. Rest in Peace Gwen, and Godspeed.
Daybreak 289 Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I had the pleasure of meeting Gwen in 2011 from a speaking engagement when I was in college. She was so gracious that she stayed and shock all of our hands (roughly 75 people). Rest Easy Ms. Ifill.
NEOMatrix 1307 Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Wow! This comes as a shock to me. She definitely was a journalist in the truest sense. May her soul rest in peace.
