last week (
).

No, they're nothing spectacular, but for a semi-satellite that covers an area where nothing generally happens, they're alright.

Not bad for the market size. Is WORA the first affiliate of any Big Four network to have flagship non-English newscasts?

Idk about this one, but WTHR used to do a 10-minute newscast for Spanish speaking viewers called Acanale 13 Eyewitness News en Espanol. It was for online viewers. Not sure if your talking about 100% television though.

And just by reading this accordingly, WBFF's new 4:00 p.m. newscast will start on January 19th, pushing back a week from the original January 12th start.

A couple of other stations have produced Spanish newscasts (KUSA for KDEN is the largest market example I can think of at this time; there are some in Texas and California). I'm more focused on stations that don't have news in English at all.

Didn't WTVJ have a seperate Spanish-language newscast back in the 1960s?

As for a station where Spanish-language newscasts are the primary newscast, I believe that WORA is the first. XHRIO (when it was a Fox affiliate, that has since been moved to KFXV-LD) had and has English-language newscasts but has its newscasts set up similar to that of Univision affiliate KVNO.

They did with Manolo Reyes, back in the '60s when WTVJ was still with CBS on Channel 4. I still think it had its primary newscasts in English though, thanks to the Dean of South Florida television news, Ralph Renick.

GM John Koski and ND Ken Jobe are gone from WHBQ. Cox wants to bring in their own people (of course)...

http://ftvlive.com/todays-news/2014/12/1/longtime-memphis-gm-and-news-director-out

A follow up per the Memphis Daily News:

Cox Media Group has tapped Paul Briggs, an 18-year veteran of the media company, to be the new vice president and general manager at Fox 13. He comes to the station from Charlotte, N.C., where he was the general sales manager at WSOC-TV.

He’s also worked as general sales manager at Charlotte’s WAXN-TV and as an account executive at WSOC-TV. Briggs replaces John Koski.

Meanwhile, Cox’s executive vice president of television, Jane Williams, told The Daily News the company also is looking for a news director to succeed Ken Jobe at the Memphis station.

In a statement about Briggs’ new role, Williams said: “We are thrilled that we can tap such phenomenal internal talent like Paul for this important leadership position at one of our newest TV brands.”

WOAY in Oak Hill, WV is off the air due to a "catastrophic failure" with their transmitter....

http://woay.com/Alerts.aspx?aid=637

I remember years ago when Newsblues allowed anonymous reports from TV stations. WOAY's account was about how on one of their pieces of transmission equipment, a screwdriver had to be inserted to keep a button pressed in order to keep the station ON THE AIR. It then proceeded to show a picture of a broomstick propped up to keep the button depressed!

Maybe someone lost the broomstick ;-)

Ah, WOAY, a station that forgot that PSIP existed. (To be fair it seems that many Mexican non-commercial stations have the same problem, but really, WOAY?)

Meanwhile, back in Phoenix, another personality out at KNXV: their traffic presenter. Internal speculation says the position will not be filled.

WBAY general manager Don Carmichael is stepping down after 21 years on the job. General sales manager Steve Lavin has been promoted to the GM position. Carmichael's retirement will take place at the end of the month.

WORA will start semi-satelliting WKAQ on January 1st on 5.1. ABC'll stay on 5.2, and a Spaniard programming... thing they're calling Vive will be on 5.3.

Unfortunately, that means no room at the inn for WKAQ's "Punto 2" (2.2) nor its WNBC simulcast (2.3).

Confirmed: John Bryant is the new Chief Meteorologist for WATN. Unknown what happened to Paul Williams.

http://www.localmemphis.com/story/d/story/john-bryant-named-chief-meteorologist/19149/FFAEOyBfQkOt-BYaa-my4w

Apparently, and not surprisingly, Paul wasn't pleased with his position when John was moved to weekday evenings during November sweeps, so he knew his best option would likely to be to leave. According to his twitter, he's looking to move to another market soon. Ironically its very similar to the position John Bryant was placed in at WMC when the move toward Dave Brown's semi-retirement began to take shape earlier this year that led to him leaving there.

Well it's about time. WFTS is expanding its morning news offerings.

TVNewsCheck states this morning that on January 12th, WFTS will start its morning newscast @ 4:30am. It will also have an hourly 9am newscast, after Good Morning America.

Chauncy Glover is leaving his Reporter and Back-up Weekend/Holiday Anchor position at WDIV to be an Anchor/Reporter at KTRK in Houston. I'm thinking he'll start after the New Year down in Houston. He had been at WDIV since 2011.

IIRC, that leaves WKBW as the only Scripps station on the East Coast with a 5:00am morning news start time.

We all could have seen this one coming after the station was sold, but local news is returning to WEVV in the near future. When it signs on the air in 2015, the new WEVV local news product will mark the end of a 14-year period without local newscasts.

And with this...the WATN weather team is back down to two.

Sean Parker announced he accepted a position at WFFF in Burlington and will be leaving in January.

Either he's going there to run things or WFFF/WVNY is adding news. Won't be much of a clash, the Vermont pair got the "Local" branding and graphics similar to WATN not too long ago.
