WVIT (NBC CT) did run the previously-recorded news after the game, though I didn't think to check their website or streaming channel. I'll have to remember to check those next time this happens).

 

LateNighter noted that the delay pushed The Tonight Show to its latest start since Jimmy Fallon became the host in 2014:  1:29am ET, with Late Night with Seth Meyers coming on at 2:31am. NBC CT normally repeats their late news after Meyers, but that would result in it bumping into Early Today, so I can see it being quietly skipped (along with the repeats of Nightly News, Kelly Clarkson, and Access Hollywood).

Would be interesting to see who did pre-tape. In many cases, it makes sense to tape- I think of some of the Gray Duos in my area (KSFY/KDLT, KVLY, KBJR) who normally simulcast, they likely ran the late news live on one channel and aired the tape on NBC after. How many also ran the news on their website/streamer live and taped for broadcast after the game?

I think live shows after midnight are pretty useless unless it's a home market team. Having been in a newsroom in an OT situation, everyone from producers to anchors complains about it. The over time pay is taxed. Do viewers really even care if the show is live or pre-taped? There's no production difference except for the live bug on the screen. IMO the insistency on going live after late running sports games are a relic of the old TV age.

Nearly 30 years on Central Iowa television, 20 years at WHO 13, and nearly 20 in the top spot at the station.

 

Yet, it'll all come to an end for Erin Kiernan before Thanksgiving.

 

This is the third such well known departure from WHO in recent years. Dan Winters in 2022 and most recently, Jannay Towne, who also spent 20 years at WHO and started in the same year as Erin did, before leaving in August.

Bill Riales is retiring from WKRG News 5 in December.  He's been there for over the last 25 years, most of those as a morning anchor (aside from mid-2008 to early 2010 when he and his co-anchor were let go for Devon Walsh's return)  He returned to the station in 2009 and put back on the morning show the following spring with Devon Walsh.

WVUA is changing their newscast structure. Starting Monday, November 10th, it'll be just two live half-hour newscasts on weekdays at 5:00 and every night at 9:00.

 

The 5pm will repeat at 6pm and the 9pm will repeat at 10pm.

Looks like they axed 2 managers, as well. Feels like budget cuts maybe, but they just posted like 10 new news jobs a couple weeks ago. So … things don’t really add up.

WFOR used to have 9am and 7pm news until they were canceled in favor of CBS News' streaming extensions of their morning and evening news programs. Now that they have been canceled, WFOR is bringing them back starting Monday. 7pm is half an hour like before, but unlike before, the 9am will now be a full hour.

 

In other words, for the first time ever, WFOR will now produce five hours of weekday morning news (5-7 am on WFOR, 7-9 am on WBFS, and 9-10am back on WFOR).

Ken Siemek retired Thursday night as KOLN/KGIN's longest-serving employee at 44 years. With such a significant impact on Nebraska, its no surprise the studio is renamed in his honor on his last day.

This is an unusual post for this topic but I had to...

 

Today I learned that Marisa Burke, formerly of WNEP-TV, is the group news director for Coastal Television. In other words, the news you see on KYUR/KATN/KJUD, KJNE/KJNB, WNBJ, WYDC, and a few others.

 

This is a podcast done by former WNEP/WABC anchor/reporter Raegan Medgie and this episode focuses on Marisa's life, career, and THE one singular event involving her husband that nearly sidetracked (but not ending) her career, which was later detailed on her book, Just Checking Scores.

 

EDIT: For those who don't remember, Marisa left WNEP in 2016 after a 32-year career that in which she took a voluntary buyout from Tribune (station's owners at the time), alongside Chief Meteorologist Tom Clark.

But no sign of them coming to southwestern Connecticut. Instead, we're stuck with Spectrum News NY1, which is mostly focused on NYC news.

 

Oh, and we now have the Spanish-language version of NY1, on channel 12. Ironically, when we still had News 12 Connecticut, it was on channel 30.

We got Hornets games coming across the Carolinas. Its Cox's WSOC and WAXN that'll be the home for select games during this season via simulcasts from FDSN South or Southeast.

 

Those will be spread across the Carolinas via Gray Media, either through a subchannel in North Carolina or through Palmetto Sports and Entertainment in South Carolina.

 

Finally, Raleigh. No Cox there? No Gray there? No problem... because Capitol Broadcasting's WRAL-TV (on 5.2) will carry them.

Kim Khazei is leaving WHDH at the end of the year after a wonderful 31-year run (though she did have a six-year break in between to raise her kids. That's where Caterina Bandini was the main female anchor during that time).

Two departures from Pensacola and Mobile....

Karris Harmon is leaving WEAR in Pensacola.  Prior to WEAR, she worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor at cross-market sister station "NBC 15" in Mobile.  She essentially traded places with Aubrey Spears, who was a reporter at WEAR and later took Karris' old job at NBC 15.  Aubrey departed earlier this year.

 

And at WKRG, sports director Simone Eli is making a HUGE jump in the Nexstar food chain....all the way to New York City to work at PIX 11 and other sports-related projects for Nexstar.
