CircleSeven 1955
SOMETHING IS UP with the Wyoming Deal. Apparently the Sale of the Triopoly is on hold until Further notice. All we know is there are lawyers involved. Well, the FCC greenlighted Gray's KGWR/KGWL deal under the condition that KGWC donation to CWC gets consummated (either concurrent or afterwards). FCC greenlighted the KTWO deal to Legacy. But the KFNB/KFNE deal is still pending as of right now. What I didn't understand throughout all of this is that they'd used a low-power station (KYWF-LD) to count with the rest of the full-power stations in Casper, in the multiple ownership compliance part of the application. I thought LPs didn't count. Only full-powers. 3 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16928-gray-media-general-thread/page/9/#findComment-206771 Share on other sites
CircleSeven 1955
http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/111131/gray-creating-fargo-duopoly-with-kcpm-buy And here we go again with Gray. This time they're buying KCPM in Fargo, to create a duopoly with KVLY (NBC). As the KDLT deal is being challenged, this KCPM deal has also been challenged by the owners of KRDK (the former full-power of KXJB). 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16928-gray-media-general-thread/page/9/#findComment-207293 Share on other sites

effseesee 101
As the KDLT deal is being challenged, this KCPM deal has also been challenged by the owners of KRDK (the former full-power of KXJB). While the challenge in the KDLT deal is directed at Gray, the challenge in the KCPM deal is directed at the seller, G.I.G. KRDK is arguing that G.I.G. cannot sell the license to Gray, and thus profit from the transaction, because the station has been off the air for more than 12 months, which, according to FCC rules, means the license has expired. 5 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16928-gray-media-general-thread/page/9/#findComment-207322 Share on other sites

Didn't Gray make an attempt once to get the 4 PSIP ID back from KRDK for KXJB-LD? 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16928-gray-media-general-thread/page/9/#findComment-207503 Share on other sites
CircleSeven 1955
Didn't Gray make an attempt once to get the 4 PSIP ID back from KRDK for KXJB-LD? Yeah they did, based on this document. But Major Market filed a must-carry complaint to keep the Channel 4 position. The FCC granted Major Market's request. CircleSeven 1955
We missed this one but Gray is assuming the control of WFFP in Lynchburg via a shared services agreement (beginning June 15th) and buying WLHG (it's low-power sister station) outright, this being an outgrowth of WDBJ's CSA with WFFP. Programming produced by Liberty University will be able to air over all three stations through an agreement reached with the university, the parent company of Morning Star Broadcasting which owns WFFP and WLHG and Gray, the operator of all three stations. All of this info came from TVNewsCheck and RBR. Anyway, here is the Form 314. Includes a Shared Services Agreement for WFFP and an APA. Gray is now buying WFFP outright for $100K. As stated earlier, Gray is changing the station calls to WZBJ on 9/1. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16928-gray-media-general-thread/page/9/#findComment-210900 Share on other sites

CircleSeven 1955
Another M&A for Gray? It appears that Gray could be acquiring the license of the soon-to-be defunct PBS outlet KNCT in Waco. The PBS outlet goes off the air on Friday. It looks like KNCT is one of the very few PBS stations whose frequency is not reserved for noncommercial use, thus allowing it to be sold to a commercial broadcaster. This pre-transition DTV Table of allotments shows channel 38 in Belton, which was used by KNCT as not being reserved. At least they won't have to almost swap licenses to acquire it, unlike a certain company that once operated a CBS affiliate in Buffalo. CircleSeven 1955
Okay. New M&A. Remember the Hoak deal, and Gray wanted to form a JSA with KHAS? But later re-sold it to an indie buyer (to please Wheeler) and move the NBC affil to its MyNet channel? Now Gray wants to buy out Legacy's KNHL for $475K, and turn this station into a "satellite" of (you guessed it) KSNB. Here's the contours of KSNB & KNHL signals. KSNB signal reaches Lincoln, while KNHL reaches as far west as Kearney. But significant overlap in between. And both of these signals are VHF low. Should this deal goes through, it would be a return of the peacock on Channel 5 in nearly five years. It also appears that Gray & Legacy have a "Multicast Channel Agreement" to carry programming (from KCWH-LP) on subchannel 5.3. I'm not sure if they even launched The CW yet, despite inking that subchannel agreement on the 1st. I'm sure if they would've launched it on KCWH or KNHL 5.3, that info would've been posted on either 10/11now or the NBC Nebraska website by now. The CW zip code listing even says that KXVO is the "Lincoln" CW station, and not KCWH or KNHL. Samantha 2895
Wow, that is a big surprise. There must have been a hold-up somewhere in the line. I also have to wonder if, given the nature of the market (and the number of network affiliations that would be commonly controlled), the recent concerns about local TV ads caused problems at Justice.
