anchorman 94
On tonight's 5pm newscasat they debuted "Roadcam 7" which is obviously very similar to Ch. 2's "Mobile 2." Joe Torres was driving. Picture quality was very good. I guess they rushed this in for the storm tomorrow. Vlad 325
What exactly is the Roadcam and the Mobile 2 all about because I'm not sure if I understand the tactic, is it like a live camera that reporters use as they are driving to the scene to report road conditions? StudioTech 15
I guess we can expect the following: StreetFox LX Cam 4 CarPix Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7034-wabc-debuts-road-cam-7/#findComment-63884 Share on other sites
Vlad 325
It's a simple small HDV camera hooked up to a laptop computer with Skype and a wireless data card which it works well in moving vehicles. I hate to say this, but it's cheaper and easier to put out live videos over a Skype connection. Thanks! IceManNYR 240
I thought the video on WABC was on par with its 16:9 SD remotes. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7034-wabc-debuts-road-cam-7/#findComment-63892 Share on other sites
Weeters 1916
I thought the video on WABC was on par with its 16:9 SD remotes. It's ridiculously easy to stream 16:9 SD video, so that makes sense. nynewslover 277
WABC is being rediculous with the "7" branding now..instead of calling their skype interviews "via skype" they are calling them "Skype 7". I personally don't find it necessary to put the station number after every little thing. Am I the only one who feels this way? I'd expect that from smaller stations that use something like "Super Giant Doppler Radar 3 Million XL" to differentiate themselves from the competition! njlady 1
I thought it was great because I grew up in Forest Hills, haven't been there in many years and it was fun watching Joe Torres drive on QB Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7034-wabc-debuts-road-cam-7/#findComment-63902 Share on other sites

Hey Net - isn't the technology similar to that of "Skype" but not actually using the Skype service, rather just a 4G video feed streamed through a laptop, as you mentioned? I'm rather certain of this, because I believe that Skype requires credit for the technology if it's used on the air. (like "Skype7") Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7034-wabc-debuts-road-cam-7/#findComment-63914 Share on other sites
Vlad 325
Hmm they must have some sort of deal with Clearwire's 4G Wiimax or something. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7034-wabc-debuts-road-cam-7/#findComment-63935 Share on other sites
NYNewsCoverage 300
I know this happened a while ago, but I just wanted to bring to your attention that WPIX debuted this riding in the car thing during it's morning news on December 10th of 2013. They did not call it any special name though. I do like the name of "Carpix" though. Jump to 2:03 in the below video link to see Kirstin Cole reporting in the car. mountainave 606
You guys sure it's Skype? Seems too flakey for a place like WABC to use on air. I would've guessed the video is transmitted via Dejero. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7034-wabc-debuts-road-cam-7/#findComment-96146 Share on other sites
IceManNYR 240
I would have guessed they are streaming via LTE cell data networks. I've noticed WABC does spme remotes streaming to as sometimes the video video gets pixleated and goes SD then returns to HD quality.
