WCBS-TV to Bring Accuweather.com’s Katie Fehlinger On Board as New Weather Person

FishbowlNY has learned that WCBS-TV/Channel 2 has hired Katie Fehlinger as a new weather forecaster. She has been with Accuweather, based in State College, Pennsylvania, as a host and producer, since 2006. Fehlinger, according to her LinkedIn page, will complete her certificate in Broadcast Meteorology this year at Mississippi State University.

A tipster tells FishbowlNY that Fehlinger is scheduled to join WCBS by the end of March.

Fehlinger is a native of Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley. After graduating from Cedar Crest College with Bachelors Degree in Communications, she started her career as a reporter for a newsmagazine in Bethelem, PA.

A WCBS spokeswoman had no comment. However, while not a confirmation, a source tells FishbowlNY that Fehlinger was recently given a tour of the newsroom and studio by news director David Friend.

In 2008, Asylum.com ranked Fehlinger as the 22nd among the Top 30 Sexiest Weather Girls.

It is unclear who, if anyone, would be leaving the station.

Any idea who she'll be replacing? The choices are: Lonnie Quinn, John Elliott, Elise Finch or John Marshall.

Last hired, first fired means it's Marshall.... poor John. First WNBC, now WCBS...

Doubtful .. WABC does not hire in the market people .. Plus WABC is also looking for a female weather anchor...

this is true. it's an unspoken rule of thumb at WABC that you don't hire the "castaways" from the competition.

This is pretty interesting because on their website it clearly says "equal opportunity" employer. And strictly female? That goes against the equal opportunity notion.

It was broken in 2003 when Ken Rosato used to work for WNYW (2002-03) as a morning and midday anchor and a reporter before going to WABC.

Well, no - the rule wasn't broken, because Ken was merely a freelancer at WNYW. The rule doesn't apply to those who don't have a contract. There have been several freelancers that were on other stations, then at 7 for a while... but ultimately, none of them get picked up. Ken was probably the first in that situation - to come from another NY station and get a contract.

John wasn't that good either..That's my opinion atleast .

I like John a lot. He is a strong meteorologist and I know people who know and who work with him. Down to earth and sincere. I hope he gets picked up in NY if he is leaving. A shame because that Katie girl isnt even a meteorologist. What are they thinking?

Uh.... SHE'S HOT???

There are no other "weathergirls" in the market.

Did you forget about Lind Church (who's pretty good looking for her age) Lisa Mateo (PIX11 weekend evenings) and Domenica Davis (WNBC weekend Evenings)
