TheRob 937
I found this at the end of a tape this week: KMBC from 1989. Don't all of us wish we had perfect anchor hair? 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/210/#findComment-192488 Share on other sites
10Viewer 334
More Irv Weinstein tribute, from the first buffalo edition of p.m. magazine 1979 Does anybody know what WIVB was using, theme-wise? Their station tagline "and that's why we're 4" at 10:05 is interesting. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/210/#findComment-192526 Share on other sites
10Viewer 334
Not many WOWK clips out there, but this is pretty good. They apparently tried a Charleston-Huntington split newscast a la WSAZ: Interesting theme. The theme from the 1993 clips on YT sound similar... Samantha 2895
That theme is good... The graphics were very obviously done by the same group that did redesigns for sister stations WBNG and WTAJ around that time as well. bixpchiphead 105
Does anybody know what WIVB was using, theme-wise? Their station tagline "and that's why we're 4" at 10:05 is interesting. the "we're 4" was a nod to the station's new call letters (The former WBEN-TV) W we're IV Four B Buffalo No sign of the Klein& campaign.... Now the news music that was being used at this time was Mayoham's "Bringing it home to You". As an aside, that meant that for a time in the late 70's the Niagara Frontier's big 3 tv stations were using Mayoham packages. (KB Move Closer, 'GR Part of You Life, and the aforementioned 'IVB package). compubit 673
As we close out the year (and close in on the 20th anniversary of the "end" of KNWS/51 in Houston - the final full newscast was January 2, 1998), I'm throwing out a few "newscasts from the beyond grave" - newscasts from stations no longer airing in-house newscasts. ChesapeakeTV 311
That TV Asahi newscast's open was a bit behind the times...it imitates the proto-TVbD look from CNN's beginnings! 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/210/#findComment-192598 Share on other sites

Based on some other YT clips, the open had been in use since the mid-'80s, hence the outdated look. Jared DiCarlo 53
A short WNYT promo from some time in the late 90s-early 2000s that makes fun of WRGB’s Doppler Radar. While I’m on the subject of classic TV, have any of you guys ever been to the website of the Wolfson Archive? It has a treasure trove of South Florida TV clips (most of which seem to be from the master copies!) that are really worth checking out. Just search for the call letters of a certain South Florida station and you’re good to go. http://www.wolfsonarchives.info/search-the-catalog/ 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/210/#findComment-192614 Share on other sites

scrabbleship 429
A short WNYT promo from some time in the late 90s-early 2000s that makes fun of WRGB’s Doppler Radar. That promo is from sometime in 2004 as it was after when Bob Kovachick shaved his mustache and the weather center had already been redone yet were still using their 1997 weather graphics. Here is another promo from the same time period for the same doppler. In fact, going through this person's Vimeo account there seems to be a LOT of late 90s-mid 2000s WNYT promos.
