Does anybody know what WIVB was using, theme-wise? Their station tagline "and that's why we're 4" at 10:05 is interesting.

the "we're 4" was a nod to the station's new call letters (The former WBEN-TV) W we're IV Four B Buffalo No sign of the Klein& campaign....

Now the news music that was being used at this time was Mayoham's "Bringing it home to You".

As an aside, that meant that for a time in the late 70's the Niagara Frontier's big 3 tv stations were using Mayoham packages. (KB Move Closer, 'GR Part of You Life, and the aforementioned 'IVB package).

As we close out the year (and close in on the 20th anniversary of the "end" of KNWS/51 in Houston - the final full newscast was January 2, 1998), I'm throwing out a few "newscasts from the beyond grave" - newscasts from stations no longer airing in-house newscasts. Enjoy!

WOHL had its own news department at one point?

A CNN-branded newscast from TV Asahi in Japan, 1989:

And from France, an edition of Antenne 2's 8 p.m. news anchored live from New York on the occasion of disarmament talks at the UN, 1978:

That TV Asahi newscast's open was a bit behind the times...it imitates the proto-TVbD look from CNN's beginnings!

Based on some other YT clips, the open had been in use since the mid-'80s, hence the outdated look.

A short WNYT promo from some time in the late 90s-early 2000s that makes fun of WRGB’s Doppler Radar.

While I’m on the subject of classic TV, have any of you guys ever been to the website of the Wolfson Archive? It has a treasure trove of South Florida TV clips (most of which seem to be from the master copies!) that are really worth checking out. Just search for the call letters of a certain South Florida station and you’re good to go. http://www.wolfsonarchives.info/search-the-catalog/

That promo is from sometime in 2004 as it was after when Bob Kovachick shaved his mustache and the weather center had already been redone yet were still using their 1997 weather graphics.

Here is another promo from the same time period for the same doppler.

In fact, going through this person's Vimeo account there seems to be a LOT of late 90s-mid 2000s WNYT promos.

A pre-1998 station promo

A 1996 Olympics promo, complete with clips of Chris Kapostasy (Jansing)'s Torch Relay run

"No one has more experience than Ed Dague", someone in 2000-01

More later!

Wow, gotta love the presence of a young Paul Caiano here. I also remember Bob Kovachick when his hair was gray and not white.

I know I've heard of it and been there.

Yup! Tried to compete with WLIO, until Block purchased the stations after successfully wrestling away the Fox affiliation onto a digital subchannel of WLIO.

Jim

Wow. I had no idea that existed. Would that be claimed to be the smallest FOX station to have its own news department?

Some more WNYT promos, all from the 2003-04 timeframe.

"Born to Zap"

"Bob at the Track"

A school closings promo that lasted until at least 2006

"How did Bob Kovachick become interested in the weather?"

"Playing With Fire," a Fall 2004 promo with current, glossier, peacock-on-the-13 logo.
