15 minutes of KMSP's Minnesota 9 News in 1996 - no open, and the theme in the bumpers doesn't ring any bells for me, but Californians here may recognize one of the anchors. Seems like a very interesting look...

Was totally expecting no open, of course, but Gary Rebstock??? Also a promo at 10:13 is voiced by Brian James.

Also this might’ve been their open... Note the L3’s are same in this newscast

Gary, wasn't he at KGO for some time?

Lots of old Austin stuff, and theres more where that came from!

A KTBC ID from 1978-79, using the theme from the 1987 WHIZ video:

KTVV commercials from 1985:

A KVUE Newsbrief from 1984:

An Ernest P. Worrell ad for KVUE, I think this is different from the ones on compilation sets:

A promo for KTVV's local Joyce & Mel show:

And two more...

A full commercial break from KTVV during a 1981 SNL rerun (after the ill-fated Jean Doumanian run) Back they they were using a log which looked more suited for an indie station:

The ads are horribly misdated- that KVUE Ernest promo is from their post-Gannett acquisition years, which is definitely not 1982. My guess is 1986 or 1987.

And that KTVV clip from 1985 is very weird. My guess is that they had a previous package with that logo before this one:

The WISC and WHTM early 90s themes were also written by Sheldon Elias who did the WBBM theme.

A further offspring, though not done by Elias, was the KFDA early 90s package by Eric Enfalt which accompanied two generations of WBBM ripoff opens.

Other elements from this era:

Thank you, Ramona!

Here are a few WBBM opens (and a close) featuring the faster-paced 1990 update of that theme:

Cool to see they had the separate studio and newsroom set going, and changed up the studio set elements for each broadcast.

And wow - Lester and Adele...

Al Schottelkotte was, according to some sources, the highest rated local anchor in America. This is the only video I've been able to locate on YT:

And here is the audio opening for his newscast (1950s?):
