November 30th, 1999 - A rare KATU newscast opening with the husband and wife duo of John Marler and Cathy Marshall at 5pm. However, this was the day huge protests broke out in Seattle because of a WTO meeting.

 

As a result... after a minute or so, KATU went straight to simulcast KOMO's coverage of the events with the dream team of Dan Lewis and Kathi Goertzen (RIP) at the helm.

Kathi and Dan were definitely the dream team in Seattle. I don't think any other anchor pairing at KOMO, or other stations, had as much chemistry as those two. It felt like they were best friends, and both gave back a lot to the Puget Sound.

What a bumper year for Fort Smith footage and newspaper availability. That KPOM 1986 newscast is actually fairly interesting because that is the first week of the new name and music. Griffin bought KPOM and basically remade the news department in KWTV's image. Shortly after this, they hired Mike Nail (the longtime voice of Arkansas Razorback sports) to do the sports from Fayetteville, and Bradley left. The 1992 clip is from April, two months before the news department was shuttered. That look only lasted nine months.

So, I've been collecting VHS and Betas for over a decade. I always try to snag small-market eBay lots whenever they still exist...and a recent Beta lot was no exception. For OVER A DECADE I have been looking to break the dry spell and digitize some television from this market. A life-long dream has come true, and now TAKE A LOOK AT THIS 1986 NEWS PROMO FOR KXGN GLENDIVE!!!!!! (At 5:58)

 

 

And to sweeten the deal, here's half of the KUMV Williston Night Report from 9/26/1986. Most of the newscast originates from KFYR Bismarck, and KUMV cuts in during the second half of the newscast, but the recording cuts off before the end... They had a translator in Glendive for decades
