  1. Today
  2. This is the tough thing about a solo lead anchor, and why WGN is still better equipped, when Micah eventually hangs it up. 32's bench is already (always) fairly thin, especially when they've just did some shuffling at other dayparts. Unless they plan on making some unexpected splash, we're probably looking at Buganski and/or Moreno in the late slots. If that's the plan, then adding one of them as Dawn's co-anchor should've been done months ago, but only if they knew Dawn was planning to exit, of course. As for Dawn, there was definitely something in her phrasing that suggests she's not done with TV, but will her next job require a move out of Chicago? For the record, Joanie Lum anchored the late news, tonight, but with the World Cup displacing the 9pm here and there, I wouldn't read into any assignment, possibly until the fall, even.
  3. Another big loss for Fox 32. Curious to see who will succeed Dawn (and if they also fill Scott's role too).
  4. At least she got to be a lead anchor, and lead over the men. I wish her the best.
  5. Yesterday
  6. Especially if both stations were going to adopt the same name they might as well have simulcast. Through the industry, having spoken to a producer at that shop, their logic is that WBBH is their headlines newscast, and WZVN is their in depth "thinkers" newscast. IIRC, the producer said they maintain separate operations due to their distinctive audiences. Where are WZVN's morning anchors now?
  7. A big loss at KXAS-TV coming up... After nearly 20 years at NBC, first with NBC Weather Plus for two years, and then the last 17 years at KXAS-TV, morning meteorologist and traffic reporter Samantha Davies has decided to hang it up for good at the end of the week. https://www.instagram.com/p/DaOEeMjmtgz/?img_index=17&igsh=NDEycXpxcXc0dGpo
  8. Another figure of Fox 32 has departed Dawn Hasbrouck has signed off from FOX 32 after 16 years. Hasbrouck worked her way to the top starting as co-anchor of Good Day Chicago, Fox 32 News at Noon and later evening anchor since 2013 following the slow departure of founding anchor Robin Robinson. https://youtu.be/4UQ4k9ifI8w?is=JbrQZQLE_p9-n4B_
  9. To be fair, though, KOSA has been known as First Alert 7 for a good chunk of the last year or two. It also went under CBS 7 First Alert News before that, so its not a total surprise here.
  10. Ugh First Alert strikes again
  11. This seems to be the first time in a long time that a broadcast network will be publicly owned independently of a subsidiary. I'll have to follow up with a friend of mine, high up in management at Versant if she thinks the cable networks and NBCUniversal will remain separate.
  12. KOSA has debuted, after months of the honeycomb look with the new logo.
  13. It was a matter of time before this happened and honestly surprised it took Hearst as long as it did to do this. Any competing against yourself at the same time newscast (with the possible exception of a duopoly producing separate english and spanish language newscasts) is living on borrowed time with current revenue and viewership across the industry. As for WBBH and WZVN, there is some history of simulcasting morning news: they briefly dropped the ABC morning news and simulcast NBC at the worst of the great recession in 2008-2009.
  14. Yeah I would agree they are a HUGE hit on social media right now
  15. Any thought of having Liz, David, and Sandra each anchor two shows between Noon, 4pm, and 6pm? Essentially Sandra would be adding airtime. I think keeping Joe where he’s at currently makes most sense. Is Mike in contention? I think longterm the goal should be two afternoon/evening anchor teams. One at Noon/5pm, the other at 4pm/6pm/11pm.
  16. MTV is a dead brand in its current form since music videos are all over the internet and so many FAST channels do it way better.
  17. My longshot pick is NBCU getting together with Universal Music
  18. it doesn't need to happen. The better Fox local pairing that I could see for a national talk show would be Alex Holley and Mike Jerrick on Good Day Philadelphia.
  19. Was just coming here to ask about this, and found that you noticed it too. From a cost-effective/practicality standpoint it makes sense to fully simulcast instead of two separate news operations in one newsroom and requiring reporters to do separate live hits for two separate stations. Unfortunately that would result in the layoffs of producers and possibly anchors. If they ever fully unify, GCN would join their Florida *counterparts at First Coast News and Action News Jax in unified news operations.

  21. Ahhh. I see what they did. They're using a South Florida-generic website to cover both WSFL (The Spot - South Florida 39) AND WHDT (The Spot - South Florida 9). If you go to Where to Watch, it covers both stations but uses a generic The Spot - South Florida logo without the channel numbers. Now, we'll wait to see if "KDF-TV" will do the same or not.
  22. Spoke too soon for WHDT
  23. This week, it appears to mostly be repeats of Ridiculousness, The Big Bang Theory, and The Office. So it's Comedy Central with a shorter name.
  24. Last week
  25. Despite having 50 mostly useless cable channels already? WTF is MTV about these days?
  26. News regarding The Spot... Scripps has launched a new nationwide website for its Independent brand. This comes as WNPX launched on time as The Spot - Nashville 28 today, pushing ION to WTVF 5.2. Also, WMYD has rebranded as The Spot - Detroit 20, and even WSFL has rebranded as The Spot - South Florida. This leaves "KDF-TV" out of Corpus Christi and WHDT in WPB as the last two that have yet to adopt The Spot branding.
  27. WHIO NewsCenter 7 at Noon (September 11, 1987) KWQC TV6 News at Ten (November 26, 1993) WPBN/WTOM NewsWatch at 11:00 (November 18, 1987) WHBF 4 News Tonight (March 25, 1987; rebroadcast)
  28. Former WJZ-13 reporter and weekend sports anchor Stan Saunders died Friday at the age of 72. Former WJZ reporter, weekend sports anchor Stan Saunders dies at 72 - CBS Baltimore
