  1. At least they have a new website layout (though I'm not sure about that, or if they'll switch to an updated version of their rendition of Lakana). Other than that, they're right up there with Sinclair, yet both are below Scripps for worst station group.

  2. It looks like WKBW's Keith Radford isn't going anywhere anytime soon, its because the Buffalo's ABC affiliate has extended his contract. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/it-looks-like-this-buffalo-anchor-is-getting-a-new-contract/166436

  3. If I'm a betting man, I'm going to say either myvalleymatters.com, valleyproud.com, or ourvalleyhomepage.com

  4. Now, now, we established that that was proper usage of the term...an outdated term only really used by 70 year old white guys on the cusp of retirement.

  5. In Breck is the last remaining hire during Alec Gifford's era at WVUE to persevere at the station. My forecast: warm wishes and a sunny retirement for Bob!

  6. I don't know if anyone has brought this up here but WPIX has a heritage tribute Facebook page called WPIX Archives. It showcases vintage WPIX news footage, ads, promos, and also vintage ads for long time or defunct NYC businesses. I wish other stations would embrace their history the way WPIX has on this page. https://www.facebook.com/wpixarchives/

  7. The newscast should have been 30 minutes from the start. In a market which already has 3 stations on for a full hour at 10 (plus WBIN), a half hour newscast has its advantages. Also, being on a subchannel has its disadvantages especially in terms of being less visible and lack of carriage on satellite.

  8. Tomorrow! Really though, most of the time the debut date for new sets is on or right before the start of the next sweeps period. Late April is a good early guess for ALL the new sets that are under construction right now.

  9. Most likely he's just there while Ginger is on DWTS. I wouldn't read too much into it as ginger mentioned she would be on GMA most days of the week.

  10. I will add that I'm surprised they did not have a 10pm newscast long before this. Most Hearst stations have had them for ages either on their sister station or subchannel.

  11. I think that's because TM makes it a given thing not to have weather segments (at least especially during weekdays) (unless of a severe national disaster-- snowstorms, El Ninos, hurricanes, what have you. But that would be awesome, though.

  12. I like the first one especially since WKBN and WYTV used to have myvalleyweather.com and myvalleysports.com before their websites were redesigned.

  13. SUPER RARE 1997-98 Birmingham, AL Video!! See the radical transition from WBMG 42 to WIAT 42 Daily News, which included blowing up all newscasts/branding. The video shows everything from how much viewers hated the old station, to the transitional countdown clock that ran in place of newscasts, to the new launch of WIAT Daily News... It may be worth someone "saving" this video in case it's ever unavailable. Plus, here's a story from April 1998 from the American Journalism Review. http://ajrarchive.org/Article.asp?id=2317

  18. Just so you know, I was being sarcastic in the first part. I can understand if you didn't read it that way.

  19. I can think of at least a dozen ABC/ESPN/Disney-related stars off the top of my head that have participated in the past. There's generally 1 or 2 each season. Of course the show is going to be synergy-heavy.

  20. I know this sounds like a post for Speculatron 9000, but if the Raycom/Bahakel merger happened, WFXB would be merged with WMBF, WBBJ would be all alone, WBTV is with WCCB, WOLO joins WIS (in which one of them would have to be sold off) and WAKA/WNCF/WBMM would join WSFA (in which for sure, somebody would have to be sold).

  21. WBTV has FINALLY overtaken WSOC in the ratings for the first time since 1990. Here's the numbers from the Charlotte Observer In the 10pm race, WAXN still has a solid lead over WCCB, but CCB's numbers are down from last year. WJZY is still in the basement with anemic numbers despite some gains (and a sharp decline at 10pm). If only WBTV and WCCB joined forces....then they would be a force to be reckoned with. But given Bahakel's refusal to sell (and causing a total monopoly in Montgomery, AL if they did so), a merger with Raycom would never happen.
