The newsreader position is a waste of time. The Today show flows better and is much faster pace without having a newsreader. The transitions is much easirer. To tell you the truth there is really no need for 7 people on these morning shows. I love the CBS format of only 3 people and no weather person.5 points

Do you think the Today ratings surge is short term or will they bounce back to second place.5 points

Andy Alford served four years at WGCL as GM. There could be a longer-served GM before him.5 points

Which GM at WGCL has had the longest tenure there since the switch to CBS? Just curious.5 points

Which brings up an interesting, yet disappointing IMO, observation, why is it that Buzzr is in Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, And Gainesville, but not Miami? Seriously? No Buzzr in a big city like Miami, while smaller cities get to enjoy it?4 points

A few years later, in 1998, KAKE attempted the network branding of "ABC Kansas" and deemphasized its channel number...here are some promos from that era. News remained "KAKE News".4 points

Yes it has. As we close out 2017, a look back at some people in the broadcasting business we lost: Amanda Davis: Michelle Marsh: Irv Weinstein: Doug Paul: Rich Fisher: Howard Caldwell: Jim Vance: Drew Dimmel: Van Amburg: Wayne Walker: And I’m sure there’s many more, these are just some of them.3 points

I think we are overvaluing the Today show and it's personnel nowadays. The Today show is no longer a pivotal source of news and information. It is mainly an advertising block for their sponsors. The Today lost it's steam the last 10 years but after the rise of digital news, network morning television is not longer a vital source to pop culture. Nowadays, the need for a big time anchor is slowly fading especailly on Today show which is 10% news and the rest is all fluff. To me they should turn Today show into entertainment program. Non of the anchors are serious credible journalists. Give the bookings and interviews to the evening news anchor. Right now Lester is the top anchor at NBC and therefore should have more leverage to do bookings for interviews.2 points

So Azteca had a very short stint with WGEN? If what your saying is right, a much shorter stint than when WJAN/WFUN had MundoFOX?2 points

And before that, the KAKE stations tried a KSN/KBS style name, KTN, or the Kansas TV Network.2 points

Another article mentioned that AZA moved back to their previous WPMF-CD in November 2017. WSVN apparently stopped airing Estrella back in July on their subchannel (it's on a light bulb with the calls WVFW-CD right now), but nobody actually noticed until just now they carry Light TV. Which just shows how these new subchannel networks carrying the same six MGM shows are getting no buzz to speak of.2 points

One today's date 25 years ago, TVS in the United Kingdom, serving the south coast of England, broadcast its last-ever newscast before handing over its license to Meridian on January 1. The newscast introduced the new broadcaster and looked back at the history of TVS's news: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csuXY5zMrqA2 points

Hard to believe, it's now been 30 years since Baltimore lost a broadcast legend. Today, on this New Year's Eve; we pay tribute to a true news icon in Maryland. TVNT is remembering the late, great Jerry Turner. A Baltimore Institution of WJZ 13 for 25 years. God bless you, Jerry and Godspeed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=COuZsP0YDWc;t=17162 points

I know the updated look came in right before the Athens Olympics started. I was out of the area when it happened and when I came back it was a little shocking how well they did it. The 2002-04 "sub look" they wedged into the 1997 opens was flat out awful, a horrible blue/purple gradient, Arial fonts, just a massive mess and unless you poke around the Internet Archive largely invisible. I know that those beautiful opens that went with the first generation of L.A. Groove were junked when the second generation came in. Outside of all of their images in the NewsChannel 13 era, next to the Prime News era those were their best bar none.1 point

According to an online blog, WNYT debuted their glossier look along with L.A. Groove on August 12, 2004. I remember the graphic change well (though I was only 3 years old!!!) and they kept the graphics until April 2012 when they went HD. However, WNYT went through some minor tweaks (including different L3’s, slogan change to “Coverage You Can Trust”, and newer cuts of “L.A. Groove” by 2006).1 point
