Who is the new weekend anchor that has been on the last two saturdays at 5pm eastern/2pm pacific5 points

That information has been in the NMSA's database for over 15 years, but I've never seen a single thing to back it up. I for one think the '86-'88 dating actually applies to the electronic theme...5 points

It's weird to actually see this look and sound when it was relatively new (minus the last few moments, which were definitely not from 1997). I think I have a tape of 10's morning news from around '02 or '03 and thinking how nice but dated the very same update graphics looked. The Lower-thirds had been modernized a bit but still looked pretty close to fitting the character of the overall graphics package. Bostick was a quality owner based on everything I have seen, and they really invested in KWTX prior to their sale to Gray. The look, sound and direction of the newscasts even into the early years of Gray's ownership were very well executed. Not what you'd expect of of #90 or so market.5 points

I interned at WABC when Kenny was News Director. Everyone looked up to him. He was good tough and tenacious leader WABC has gone downhill under Camille's leadership.3 points

Though unlikely, it would be wonderful if they brought back Kenny Plotnik. I know he's now helming the ship at NBC Boston. But WABC/EWN felt like it was at a peak while he was there.3 points

Lindsay Czarniak is coming back to WRC-TV, at least for a week. She recently left ESPN (saddened about that) and is coming back to the station that helped her career off to stardom. She'll contribute to WRC-TV's Super Bowl coverage this upcoming week. She won't be on after that more likely due to WRC-TV reducing sports coverage since Carol Maloney no longer works there either. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc-sports-bog/wp/2018/01/25/her-espn-tenure-over-lindsay-czarniak-will-contribute-to-nbc-washingtons-super-bowl-coverage/?utm_term=.747cbab742212 points

Look for more long time veterans to "retire" its been happening the last year or so. Scripps is struggling, the last thing on their minds are graphics.2 points

''Up to the Minute,'' patterned after the Phil Donahue show, focused on a different issue each week and was aimed at a female audience. From the start, however, its hosts - Harry Reasoner, Morley Safer, Mike Wallace and Ed Bradley - were unable to devote substantial time to it, given the demands of their ''60 Minutes'' jobs. The result, as many critics noted, was that they were forced to tape shows for which they clearly did not have sufficient time to prepare. Several complained privately about the added burden of doing the show. ''Up to the Minute'' is expected to continue until the end of the year, and no replacement has yet been chosen. Lots of interesting things in that video. A promo for "Up to the Minute", but not the overnight show, but some sort of weekday thing. Any ideas as to what that was? The quick Aquafresh commercial during the CBS Newsbreak has the announcer lady seen in early 80s ads for ShopRite (and she's still doing voiceovers to this day, though that speaks more to SR's outdated, stale advertising more than anything else) It appears the layout of the newsroom and set was roughly the same as it looked a year later for NEWSEVEN A young Charlie van Dyke on VO duties (possibly his only work in Boston?)2 points

I do like their implementation of the 7-day forecast better than the other format1 point

Wouldn't be surprised if this led to her heading to NBC Sports in the near future, with her being married to Craig Melvin and all.1 point

Heard this a while ago. The speculation was mostly that the smaller market stations (i.e. the ex-Journal stations that got virtual sets) were being upgraded in a fashion that would make them appealing to buyers while as little time and money as possible was spent upgrading them (hence the virtual sets). The latest news of job cuts may also be an attempt to slim down some stations enough that other companies that already have hubbed operations like Master Control, Traffic, and Graphics can come in and take control of a station without worrying about having to lay off employees or go through that whole thing.1 point

About time someone picked up Connection. I wonder if they're slowly transitioning to the blue graphics. WIAT's been using the open (WTNH graphics) since 2014 after the "WIAT 42 News" rebranding.1 point

Bostick was an owner that was notoriously cheap on his station music (we even have a quote about that from him — they wanted to buy, which is why they were still using The News Image in 1997) but the follow-up package is among my all-time favorites. They basically sent the market quality soaring with that music and graphics set. "Buy the music... Buy it just like you buy your cameras and like you buy your transmitters. When you buy it, you own it and you use it until it is no good and you can throw it away."1 point

That's an odd feature, for sure, but it's not hardly my biggest gripe. It's virtually impossible to find anything more than a few days old when THERE'S NO SIMPLE SEARCH FUNCTION. Like really, what the hell? Oh, and would it be so hard to use the WLS logo and not WABC's?1 point

In other words, Ann still has some positive vibes about NBC, at least with some employees.1 point

Ann Curry is appearing on CBS This Morning tomorrow to talk about her new PBS series, she also going to be asked about Matt Lauer and her firing from Today as well. Ann is going to be appearing on ABC's The View next Tuesday. Their are no plans for Ann to appear on NBC/ Today Show, which could mean Ann does not want go back to do an interview on NBC or NBC does not want NBC to come back to do an interview because of the sensitivity of NBC/Ann Curry relation. If the later is true that is a mistake. It would be a good idea to ask Ann on to promote her new show on the network. If the terms of the interview and the interview itself is conducted correctly is could help to close the chapter on Ann Curry for NBC. The interview could be done on the Today Show, Hoda and Ann are still on good terms I believe I remember few years after Ann was let go from Today, Hoda talked about having lunch with Ann Curry to catch up. However the other options could include Doing the interview as a taped piece on Nightly News or she could appear on MSNBC (Morning Joe, MSNBC LIVE)1 point

Kenny was just named one of FTV Live's Top 5 Worst People in TV News. A surprise since it is in contrast to everything I have heard about him and does not match the few interactions I have had with him.1 point

I dunno, this doesn't sound like Peters to me. This sounds more Dallas, the vocals on the WYFF version sound kind of Dallas to me. I think WYFF is on Peters' client list for the original Your Friend 4 (possibly connected to KTVO's "Your Friend 3" which was also definitely Peters). Dunno about KTVL...1 point

I’ll just annoy everybody here and say “Bill Carey” and get out... kind of like yelling fire in a crowded theatre...1 point

It's relatively close. Katie and Matt lasted for 9.5 years (1/97-5/06), while Charlie and Joan crossed the decade mark (2/87-9/97).1 point

I was lost in a Youtube surfing time warp and stumbled upon a random anchor/reporter's channel. After going through a few of his videos, has has some rare footage of WTOK in Mississippi from 1990 with an unknown theme for their close. I've never heard it before, and to me, doesn't sound like generic production music. Also @Pine Belt Media will probably enjoy seeing Roslyn Anderson, who appears at the beginning of the video. Someone who has a channel should contact him to upload an open or full newscasts if he has any. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=wj-ZSnh5X6Y;m=5;s=251 point

I think that's telling about the terms Ann and NBC remain on that Ann is going to CBS and not NBC to tell her story.1 point
