  3. Personally when Ernie leaves I hope they go back to a traditional newscast. There's way they're surviving with the type of newscast they're doing. The only reason peoplle are probably watching is for Ernie

  4. Don't be shocked... The broadcasting labor unions do the exact same thing 10X over by requesting the members to donate to various democratic pacs. It happens during every election cycle and has occurred in one form or another for decades.

  5. They had to scrub out so much of WTLV's news identity for the simulcast (NBC chimes and peacock especially) and were in a transitional phase.

  6. Duh to you. So anytime you talk about Miami stations make sure you put a disclaimer saying your from Miami. Or anytime you talk about Gainesville stations don’t forget to put up a disclaimer that it’s the current market your living in. Or anytime you talk about Jacksonville stations put up a disclaimer saying that’s your secondary home market. Or hell, anytime you talk about any U.S. stations you should put a disclaimer your an American citizen. I could go on. An appropriate use of a “disclaimer” would be you work for that station. Duh.

  7. As for the May 1986 commercials, that’s a young Doug Paul voicing the Volkswagen commercial at 0:42 (I believe it’s him.) Also WBAL later became one of the first stations to use “Great News” a few months later in 1986, definitely by October: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dBiZy04SkU Also, going back to KSTP, here’s them from 2003:

  8. KSTP anchor Chris Egert is recovering from a partial amputation he had in December, and has already received his partial prosthetic leg. Egert's decision to undergo amputation pertains to years of ankle pain, what seems to be an atypical reason for one.

  10. A WNYT interview from 1993: Going on the 1993 opens Jim posted back in December, the top story in Albany on April 30, 1993 was a stand-off in Fort Ann, NY, by a guy named Patrick Penders. I say this because, the criminal himself was related to my dad. Penders later died in 2010.

  11. This is also great news for Koreans and Mexicans visiting Puerto Rico, as they will also be able to enjoy the many offerings of these great PBS stations. Disclaimer: I'm American, Korean and Mexican. I enjoy Kimchi tacos...and long walks on the beach with my horse "Mr.Chu"

  12. We already know you are. And why the need for this disclaimer in relation to the rest of the post? DISCLAIMER: I’m full American.

  14. I was speaking with my mother about the article and she told me “if NBC was so sure about Megyn they would have given her the co anchor position.” Which is interesting - they’re paying her all this money and not using her fully.

  15. Larry did the 7 o'clock show tonight, and it was his formal debut. I can't think of a situation ever where an anchor has retired/voluntarily left (so firings don't count), and that person's successor started their new role the same day.

  17. WJXX opens from the day they were bought by Gannett in 2000, and started simulcasting WTLV. Kind of cheap-looking.

  18. The late-night edition, Heute Nacht, used a jazzy version of the theme: The top story of this 1995 newscast? A U.S. government shutdown.

  20. Gough's last day was yesterday. This was reported a while back, he's going on a sabbatical to pursue other projects ranging from writing a book about assorted childhood abuses he survived to focusing on a Sunday morning show he created and produces, Wine About The Weather. The fun question is who will fill his shoes because his doing the late news was an insurance policy for if Bob Kovachick were to retire. They really have no weather bench anymore since their hires the last five years either a) left the market [WFXR's Jason Caterina and KKTV's Jordan Sherman] or b) are longtime vet retreads [Andy Gregorio was at WTEN forever and Neal Estano did THREE stints at WRGB with stops in-between at WJXT, then WBAL]. That morning move is a path of least resistance as who else do they really have? The person they wanted in such a role left the business and all apologies to the weekenders but they've kind've calcified into that role after so long. Asa's a caretaker of sorts.
