1. As of this past Monday (Feb. 5), KARK in Little Rock, AR, has started an hour-long 4p newscast. This newscast replaced an hour of "Judge Judy." And BTW, it turns out KARK was running TWO hours of "Judge Judy" from 3 to 5p. Now one hour of the show every day is fine with me, but not two!! I wonder what gave them the idea to run two hours of the show on weekdays!! Weird!!

 2. I agree. WLS pre-1971 is rare. Speaking of rare, it looks like I may have hit the jackpot after all. I have three rare newscasts to share. One from Charlotte, one from Knoxville and one from Peoria. First, we take you back to 1986 where WPCQ-TV in Charlotte brings you the 5:30pm news. You can see the news open at 0:37. Then, we take you one year later to 1987 where WBIR-TV in Knoxville brings you "Action 10 News". But that's not all, we take you back to 1985 where WRAU-TV in Peoria brings you "19 Eyewitness News" All of these are courtesy of Mark Butzow who produced the WBIR newscast from 1987.

 4. Man, this picture is a whole buttload of awesome. Ron's pants, Bob's hair, Ron's pants, everyone's shoulder pads, Ron's pants, John and Mark's doublebreasted jackets, and Ron's pants.

 6. WPCQ...just as underwhelming as might have been expected. Also, the poor guy just could not escape Power News, could he?

 7. That last scenario has been bouncing around for a while (cue the speculation but take it to the speculatron if you please).

 8. It was Electronic Graphics and Design of Dallas (which I know did WVIT). Not much exists of them these days even in print materials. And this video has a couple examples; WEAR being ripped off by WTVY (both in this video) and WJHG thinking it's in Baltimore...

 11. The way they are unloading what little longtime talent they have left one would think somethings up... there were some rumblings here and there. I’ve always gotten the Sears feeling from Scripps... they need cash and their situation is worse than is being let on...

 14. The ticker towards the end of the story mentions New York's indoor smoking ban taking effect which Google dates to July 24, 2003. If the woman at the end looks vaguely familiar to any Boston viewers, that would be a blonde Sharman Sacchetti, later of WFXT and now of WHDH. That pairing was criminally underrated and was a breath of fresh air from the "middle aged man and his meteorologist sidekick robotically yucking it up" shows going on at WRGB and WNYT at the time.
