WMC's former anchor/reporter Ben Watson has died of a heart attack he was 63. http://www.wmcactionnews5.com/story/37478533/award-winning-journalist-ben-watson-dies-at-63 Also From Rick Gevers Newsblues.com Jane Helmke announced late Friday that she was stepping down as news director of Tegna’s KARE in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Jane’s been ND there for about 6 1/2 years and has held a wide variety of jobs during her 35 years there. Combined into one document here for your convenience are the note to the staff from longtime KARE general manager John Remes, which included a message from Jane, and a copy of a post from Jane’s Facebook page. Jane’s partner, Teresa, is batting cancer. We wish them both well.

  4. I always felt it would make sense to put Ben and Lourdes at 6pm as well. That way, you're alternating and keeping it fresh.

  5. If WGCL can keep their momentum up because they beat WXIA for third place in November . They've tied with WSB at noon.Their morning EP put a message out saying their 4:30am tied with WSB for #1. With it being a revolving door hoping the new management will keep things right and build off of that. It was time for Ben to go he can do his conspiracy theories rants on other platforms, but he had to know how the outcome was going be. As for who sits next to Sharon Reed somebody should school management who John Bachman is and he worked at WSB TV. CBS46 has the momentum keep it going they're passing WAGA & WXIA different days on it newscast..It their time to make those money moves & stop making stupid moves.

  6. Also, Joe and Mark graduated from Marquette one year apart. I wonder if that means anything.

  7. Color me shocked. The first thing I do when new folks are hired in this town is Google them, and check out a few videos. I can establish that WGN is getting a very solid, seasoned pro with a good sense of humor and personality. What's coming as a surprise, though, is just how seasoned he is. Through a little browsing on LinkedIn, Tom Negovan is about 50, and Ben is in his early 40s. Joe Donlon is (~)55, pretty much the same age as the guy he's replacing. I'm not going to judge the hire on age, if the individual is right for the role, but with age comes an elevated salary, something I was not expecting in this move.

  8. Some random dude. If Livingston was genuinely interested, he would reach out to her personally rather than through FTVLive's commenting function.

  10. and that is what confuses me... TV twinks are all the rage right now and you would think he was gonna be able to write his own ticket. But then he makes this series of bonehead moves... Simply put... None of what he did made any sense. Unless he had a hissy-fit. That happens.

  11. As silly as this sounds, Swann is young and good looking, traits that very few conservative journalists/commentators have. There's definitely value in that.

  18. I'm not too surprised by this. I don't think Tom likes anchoring (he would rather be out in the field) and Ben is B team material (C team imo, but..). Larry and Dan were not moving off of mornings for obvious reasons. Steve wasn't going back to evenings and the weekend guys were staying on the weekends.

  20. Does anyone have any insight on when WABC will be updating their music or if there is talks in them getting a new package? They've been using this music since Fall of 1998 and we are in 2018. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but it would be nice to see something refreshing for them. . I believe Fall of this year will mark it 20 years that they are on Series 4 of Eyewitness News from Frank Gari. The tune is very fitting and nice for New York so it will be interesting to see how Gari will top that if they even do decide to update their package. Unless they go the WPVI route and just never change it at all haha. Also is there a definitive replacement for Laura Benkhe or is Anthony Johnson assuming the role? I think he's actually a pretty good fit for role and his personality really matches position.

  21. WGN has found its replacement for Mark Suppelsa.... and he’s from Portland. Whoa. http://www.robertfeder.com/2018/02/12/robservations-wgn-finds-suppelsas-replacement-portland/ KGW’s Joe Donlon will reportedly join the station this spring, if all goes as planned. I really thought they were going to promote from within...

  23. If I recall right, I remember here on the forums right around the period that News in Focus was on WRGB that one of there creative staffers were looking for advice about keeping News in Focus and switching to the WBBM package and other ideas at the time.

  27. Okay, so I'm not the only one with the theory that Good Day Chicago is in a holding pattern until they see what happens to WGN Morning News, and whether or not they can get their hands on talent.

  28. I think his arrogance (will or already) has burnt that possibility. Doesn't seem like he listens to his agent, or he just likes to ride bareback, and takes his chances. So if he had faith in his personal brand then he would probably re-activate that questionable website that got him fired. How many ND's did he survive?
