  1. Have the ratings for any of these homegrown shows been good, at any of the station groups? They feel like cheap filler.

  2. Not shocking. I see the same fate for DBL.

  3. I think that Fox would have a right of first refusal to re-re-buy and with Boston possibly their odd man out in the Top 20 they may want it back. That and given how they're cashing out of print and possibly radio that Cox may be winding down. This borders on Speculatron territory but a Hearst/Cox lashup would make a lot of sense. I wonder what would happen in Orlando and Pittsburgh though.

  4. Not really. They tried an hour long 6 o'clock format from '86-'87 that apparently didn't perform well. Also by '88, WXFL had revamped their news team and in '89, WTSP suffered a computer hacking scandal. Still, the station had come a long way from it's WLCY days, when it had a terrible news reputation.

  7. Approaching almost two years exactly since Joyce left WATN which likely was the length of her non-compete. Would seem very possible she could be joining WMC. Morning anchor would be first guess but it could be nearly any position. And looking at her twitter profile her top banner is now a WMC logo - I would say it's nearly a certainty she is going to Ch 5. Intriguing this huge expansion in its news output. The 3:30 newscast seems really out of place. Not sure there is a place for it in the market though we shall see.

  8. I still don't understand how some Scripps stations managed to avoid the Now plague. It sort of started like that, then ratings tanked and they tried to make it more localized. Clearly, that also didn't work, so they're gonna go back to the original premise and hope things are differen't the third time around.

  10. For WTMJ and WGBA, it literally is filler outside of Packers season. In the fall they only have to produce two shows (they cut the three Facebook-only shows on Packers programming nights once they realized nobody was watching). Ten years later and 'TMJ is probably still feeling stupid about letting the Sony game shows go to WDJT. If not for the national CMT deal it probably wouldn't even have that second season.

  11. I think Cox either realized that Fox was going to buy up Fox stations and they were probably looking at buying back WFXT or they're about to cash out on it's properties (radio, papers and broadcasting) this can be discussed in the Speculation thread. Anyways, it looks like that Telemundo's WWIS is adding a 6am and a 12pm newscast which is set to debut on Monday, April 2nd http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/111898/telemundos-wwsi-adding-two-newscasts

  14. It's in a landfill now, but around that time KSPR had a flexi disc insert in the Springfield News-Leader. I think its main push was their "Spirit of NewsTeam 33" image campaign. But, if I remember correctly, it also explained what the "Buy the Ozarks First" campaign was about. The things I wish I had held on to...

  16. I agree about the 3:30. I saw a job opening (in addition to the expected anchor and reporter ones, plus one for a meteorologist) for a producer of a half-hour lifestyle show for WMC on Raycom's corporate site. Perhaps that's the ultimate plan for that slot? Seems very late in the afternoon for such a thing, though. EDIT: Regarding Joyce, good catch on the banner! But hasn't it been four years since she left WATN, though?
