1. Was totally expecting no open, of course, but Gary Rebstock??? Also a promo at 10:13 is voiced by Brian James. Also this might’ve been their open... Note the L3’s are same in this newscast

 2. Sad news this evening, former WBZ anchor Tony Pepper passed away on Tuesday, April 3rd, at the age of 79 after complications due to diabetes and heart disease. When he came to Boston he initially worked with Tom Ellis but soon after and most memorably was partnered with Jack Williams, helping WBZ-TV be number one in Boston for many years. Tony was known for his great patriotism, wry sense of humor, huge laugh, and his beautifully modulated voice. He was passionately engaged in all manner of social and civic issues, especially equality and fairness. Thoughts and condolences goes out to the family of Tony Pepper and to his WBZ-TV family.

 3. Thanks. I was curious as I don’t think I’ve ever really seen the actual area from where the picture was taken. It looks like that area was also cannibalized as a work space as well. From what I’ve seen some of the Telemundo 62 Weather prep work goes on down there as well.

 4. 15 minutes of KMSP's Minnesota 9 News in 1996 - no open, and the theme in the bumpers doesn't ring any bells for me, but Californians here may recognize one of the anchors. Seems like a very interesting look...

 5. And two more... A full commercial break from KTVV during a 1981 SNL rerun (after the ill-fated Jean Doumanian run) Back they they were using a log which looked more suited for an indie station: KTBC runs into techincal difficulites during a CBS Sports boxing match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=hanymzztUOw;t=58

 9. So you're probably hearing this a lot... "I'm (blank), filling in for (blank)."

 11. Does the actual weather set ever make it on air? Because it looks like a hot mess (a term I don’t really use) Also if I was working at the desk in front of that little PTZ camera it would have paper taped over it. I know people are in the TV business to be scene but I don’t need any to see me working up close.

 12. First time a 7pm news airing in DFW since KTXA 21 News: First in Prime in '06. (And I still miss that newscasts, they were DFW's KCAL.)

 13. WXYZ is having quite a rough anchor situation: Morning Anchor Malcom Maddox has been fired for sexual harassment. No replacement named. Morning Meteorologist Keenan Smith has been filling in. Lead anchor Stephen Clark retired to go to Nashville to do country music and suddenly is going to 104.3 WOMC the number one radio station in Detroit to host their morning show. No replacement named. Noon and 4pm anchor JoAnne Purtan was laid off in the Scripps cuts after 20 years there. And 6/7/11pm anchor Carolyn Clifford is out for surgery. So no morning co-anchor, no noon anchor and no regular 6/7/11pm anchors at the circle 7 right now...

 14. Take a look at around 3:30 in - looks like they did produce one for Patti. I’m thinking the MO was cold open then talent at the first break. That Linda Alvarez one ends with her saying “coming up next...” so it might be mislabeled as an open when it was instead used for the first break.

 15. Having made it past 2 sweeps periods, or in general... I am curious does anyone know how Good Day’s ratings are doing? I really did not think that Lori and Rosanna would work... but I have actually grown to love them. On the other hand, I cannot stand Good Day Wake Up anymore. Teresa and Antwan brought some class to the show. I feel like Jenn, Suki, and Baruch make it like the mean girls clique in high school. Just not a fan. I’m really curious in the ratings!

 16. As to the lack of an open, KPNX never bothered to produce a new open for the 10pm show when Linda Álvarez left for Los Angeles. This was the 10pm open that belonged to that set: They were also at that time in the middle of a two-phase brand transition. Around November 1985, KPNX debuted the sung We're Going Where You're Going image song and began using it as a close. Keep in mind that this accompanied not only Álvarez being replaced with Patti Kirkpatrick but also (Dewey Hopper left and then resurfaced in Sacramento — his media career was best described as bizarre). There were very good reasons for KPNX not to have a 10pm open. The April 1986 change was much more wholesale — revamped news set, new logo, end of Action News — and included a more comprehensive news package composed around the WGWYG theme. It was in 1989, again in two phases (apparently), that KPNX phased it out for work done by TVbD. As in 1986, the second phase included a new logo, but set changes did not occur until 1992.
