  1. I’m not a big fan of the recent changes to NN. I don’t like how the opening is so quick, and the show is timed so there is no closing credit. Oftentimes, our affiliate is cutting off the last few words since it runs long. Thankfully the weekend edition still has some room to breathe

  2. Could've done without the discussion of the Kardashians, but I guess that's the nature of that hour.

  3. That might happen, we will see if we get to that point.

  4. He must’ve been replaced by Harry Porterfield eventually, as Mort went to WDIV to replace Wes Sarginson in 1978-early 1979.

  8. Exactly. If Lester is a witness in a trial that's on virtually every network that's around I can't imagine he'd be able to anchor NN while a part of the story. If that happened he can be off NN for several months or perhaps even longer. He would probably still do Dateline shows that were of a different subject matter tho it would be unprecedented for a Network Anchorperson to be off a newscast for an extended period of time due to being part of a major news story tho it would be necessary especially with all the cries of fake news out there today.

  9. A five-part series on a disease called PBB that hit Michigan farms in the 70s, from WWTV in 1992: And some WPIX from the same year. John Gotti's guilty!

  10. With the recent report that Lou Dobbs allegidly gives advice directly to Trump through speakerphone, I thought I'd like to remind you of all what he was long before he became Trump's #2 fan:

  11. Not just "two old men," they were lifers at the station - Tom Haley and Del Donahoo. That show was the first pre-8am local newscast in the Cleveland market (NBC slapped it on in 1981) and it only stayed on the air as long as it did because it wound up attaining a loyal following.

  13. And then he got replaced by Lester Holt... God knows where he ended up, at the Peacock. Here’s a look at a WRC newscast in 1990:

  14. Porterfield was reinstated at 6 after Crim's exit. Another demotion to weekends in 1985 to make room for Kurtis' return didn't go as smoothly.

WLS-TV's tribute to Fahey Flynn right after his death in 1983: A full epiosde of Today in Chicago from August 1978: An epiosde of CBS Reports, and various network newscast fragments (including PBS's Captioned ABC News) from November 1980: Not news, but still interesting, WCIU-TV's Polka Party from April Fools Day 1978:

  16. Kelli Cook has crossed the street to WMC in Memphis. She had previously served as weekend anchor/reporter at WATN since 2014. Not sure if she'll be serving in the same role at WMC however, since their weekend anchor team has no vacancies.

  17. On a separate but related note I can see Lester being a witness for Mueller and if that's the case he might have to recuse himself from some or perhaps even all of NBC's special coverage regarding the Mueller investigation at some point.

  19. They do have a very powerful signal on digital channel 7. One could hope that someone is looking to buy WTVQ/Morris. (sorry I keep saying that haha). WTVQ is a very-distant third rating. They also have a 10PM news on DT2.

  23. The WOWK one goes all the way back to the late 90s with their Hearst-esque look. (before that it was the "13"elieves logo) WVMH simply changed the color of the current "13" and cookie-cuttered it for their other acquisitions....

  25. Really liked him. That’s a huge loss for the station, as they lost Adam Kuperstein not too long ago. Apparently Roxanne Vargas is his replacement in the morning. Not sure about 11am. Not a fan of the move. Also leaves weekend evening and mornings now vacant for WTVJ. Eric’s moving to California. You know, there is a morning anchor position open at KNBC.

  26. Also in that same video... Promo for Channel 7 News (while the newscasts were still using 'News Scene' branding). Guess the changeover happened shortly thereafter. Lots of competition from a surging KPIX those days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Z6H_pmncoAY;m=1;s=48
