  1. Yes, it was 1985 when KMGH debuted Newsmat, I believe around June-July, as in May they still had the old set. Wish I could find that supposedly brief era somewhere... Here’s some more Salt Lake City rarities!

  2. What can you say? They were performing a job and public service and lost their lives in the process.... Not like the BBC ever sent a crew into danger (Iraq) and lives were lost. Nothing good will come from this....there is nobody to blame. It's a sad chain of events that only could have been prevented by staying home. ...and if you would have asked those guys if they wanted to stay home that day...they would have laughed in our faces.

  3. Yeah no need for 2 meteorologists in the morning... Don't get me wrong, love my WOOD-TV, but they go overkill.. all 5 can be seen on any given day M-F

  4. What's an example of that? Just curious.

  5. KNSD does the same thing. Jodi is the meteorologist and does the weather in the morning. Whitney just does traffic and then does weather for Midday.

  6. I’ve seen that open before - it was on this video from 1984: You can see it on the control room TVs. Is the uploader sure this aired in ‘83? Corinthian/Dunn & Bradstreet stations had unified looks & sets at the time and didn’t really change their opens at all, so this possibly could’ve aired after the Belo takeover.

  7. I always thought that if KYW did a straight forward TV-version of KYW NewsRadio1060 it might just work in Philly. And with CBS News emphasizing "Original Reporting" now may be the time.

  11. Has to be 1984 or early-mid 1985, as after that Welch went to CapCities/ABC and WCCO was the final non-ABC station he serviced. (KMGH, then also a CBS affiliate, was also on his client list in '85.) Meanwhile, the full 1992 Wisconsin Broadcasters' Association awards! Highlights for TV include a snippet of WAOW with the Palmer package, WXOW in 1992 with Signature (a full two years ahead of NMSA), plus a little bit of footage of WITI's coverage of the Dahmer trial airing nonstop on WDJT. Several other WBA awards presentations are on the channel.

  12. Absolutely. The set is really pleasant to look at. The doors are very nice.

  13. Perhaps.... Most of the Post-Newsweek stations (WDIV/WJXT/WFSB) had a similar set, as did WTVF ....

  14. Samantha Davies is a meteorologist, but she only does traffic on the AM show. There's no Wx tag-teaming with Grant Johnston.

  15. Why do we need TWO weather anchors on the same show? Sister stations WCAU & WRC also follows this same practice.

  19. If that's the case, it seems foolhardy - from all appearances Wren had quite a following. Then again, Ansin has a history of shooting himself in the foot regarding talent.

  20. They went away from the Sirott news format years ago and the traditional Fox tone since then, got some established veteran talent, and got a new set, and it's given them the quality and credibility they've desperately needed. We had been campaigning for moves like that for half a decade.

  24. Some WPXI clips from their “Newsmat” era: The first clip shows Hank Baughman with Roxanne Stein before he was replaced with Mike Hambrick. From what I can gather, they must’ve debuted the “Newsmat” set in 1984 (maybe??).
