  2. Speaking of Elvis' death, here's that day's news from Antenne 2 (now France 2); the King's death is covered extensively, but the top story is the resumption of Concorde flights to New York: It's not TV, but this is how Elvis' death was announced on the English service of Radio Luxembourg, the legendary pan-European pop music radio station:

  4. One of Vance’s notable GFX packages that aren’t mentioned on the website. Any others? Sticking to Charlotte, WCNC managed to poach John Snyder of KWTV/KSNW into its sea of anchors from other markets:

  6. I wonder if some of the reorchestration was done by AM Music (Steven R. Allen and David C. Maddux). There's a relevant Copyright Office entry: "KIRO news, the spirit of the N. W.; K I R O radio and TV news Christmas song." (1984) The follow-up theme KIRO 1989/1990 was also done by them, we believe. AM Music also has a "KEZI TV theme" to its name and the original music theme to Almost Live!. Also, that KNSD look had to be so upscale for '88...it still holds up after thirty years, though more as a period piece.

  11. Carey came in late in 2000 and turned the whole thing into a WABC clone. Oprah had her final show after it fell off a cliff around mid 2008 or so and then Andrea was gone by 2010.

  14. They most likely have a minimum plant to transmit HD and syndicated programming. But don’t want to go through the expense to build one for news.

  18. Ever since Radio Shack shut down the poor KITV engineers have been stumped on all this HDTV stuff. The rule of "Broadcast Quality" in the islands is simple... "If you can see the lava...it's broadcast quality brah."
