That KARK Open was copied from former sister station WXIA in Atlanta. What’s odd is that they snagged that open right after Gannett sold them (I believe; a 1983 blooper reel shows the news set in this video being built). And I’m assuming ‘JCL didn’t air 11pm news at the time cause they were being beaten in the ratings by “THE News” at WTOC...5 points

Maurice DuBois is in for Jeff Glor tonight. He is SO much better than Jeff. I would be more likely to watch CBS if he was bumped up from CBS2.5 points

$$$$$$$ My guess is, not enough people wanted to buy ad time during the news. Simple as that. The ad rates on these subchannels are ridiculously low most of the time. Even more so if it's a less mainstream network like Bounce. Eventually, it just isn't worth even trying to sell all the ad time local news gives you, if nobody's buying it.5 points

The latest to want political $ with the general election season underway no doubt...4 points

I like how a lot of people on here think this rebrand was a knee-jerk reaction that they just decided to do one afternoon. Believe me, they focus grouped this stuff, and did their research, and it took months to settle on this brand and logo combo. YOU may not like it, but apparently the research and focus groups did.3 points

Interesting how ESPN's graphics were standardized across all its properties - now each one (SportsCenter, MLB, NBA, CFB, CBB, NFL) has a unique package.2 points

I wonder what Nexstar could do with KDAF, after their mixed approach to news up to now--and Nexstar (strangely) never having owned a station in its own area before.2 points

... and because WGCL pulled the rug out from under them, Viacom stepped in and turned it into a UPN O&O. Viacom was starting its process of selling its Big Four affiliates at the time, and chose to sell KSLA to Ellis Communications in order to free up cap space. (Something I only learned last week from a 1994 B&C article posted on American Radio History that was among several I was using as sources for an expansion of a Wikipedia article about KSLA as well as articles about other Shreveport-area stations on that site.)2 points

WJCL must had changed, because in the late 90s into 2000s they only had a 6/11pm news. Glad somebody did clarified.1 point

WJCL's logo in the mid-90s was a...KCBS ripoff, just with one more "2". No open or music though: These WVTV movie bumpers from 1986 use associated cuts of the KTLA/KSTW/etc. theme... And here's a KARK newscast at 6:00 from 1985: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=94oLUeA11WE;t=10501 point

Craig and Hoda would have been great together; Savannah could sit next to a crying baby and still manage to be the inferior part of the duo. Hopefully, Craig gets that spot soon.1 point

FOX treats WNYW like trash. They treat KTTV better than WNYW. And at somewhere in heaven, WHBQ must be calling heavens on earth for getting dumped by FOX for COX. WHBQ was trashed under FOX and treated like royalty under COX. Amazing times we live in.1 point

I’m thinking Nexstar would start news operations from the ground-up for KDAF and KIAH.1 point

Verifying thru my YoutubeTV account, wow. No wonder TMZ Live finished basically on the dot at 5p. News usually start 2 mins before 5. Just waiting for the shoe to drop on what happened. For their sake, i hope it was evacuation from building due to condemnation, if any.1 point

With all the news breaking this afternoon you'd think they would atleast simulcast the mothership or use an empty studio at broadcast out of that if there's a problem at the station1 point

Looks to me like it was intentional since they had everything cued up to go right after the opening, it's interesting for sure.1 point

As I figured would happen once the Sinclair purchase went bust, The New York Post is reporting that Nexstar is looking at attempting to acquire Tribune Media. It would be an interesting case of vengance, considering that Sinclair bid fairly higher than what Nexstar was willing to pay when Tribune was seeking bids in an auction-like manner in May of last year.1 point
