I wonder what the plan is here. It says she'll be anchoring on 10 from 4-5:30AM and then Telemundo's morning show. Is Tracy cutting back or are they going with 3 anchors for the first half of the show?2 points

Pretty sure the last thing they're worried about right now is the news set. This literally has nothing to do with the set. No matter what set was there, this would have happened.2 points

Ed Brandon with his "Edroom" forecast day: Also, this was in my opinion KTRK's brightest moment early in the century. This was a documentary they did for Tropical Storm Allison. Ed did a really remarkable job here.2 points

This quote really hits the nail on the head: [Marvin Zindler] says TV news is a "kindergarten game of show and tell. You show people and then you tell them what it is. Journalism does not show in the dictionary, I don't care what dictionary you have, as having anything to do with television or electronic media. I say it's show business and they all get mad."2 points

Not a video - but classic TV news history talk - after reading the passing of Ed, did a little searching, and this came up. Great long article about the competitive dynamics in Houston TV news in 1994. KHOU usurping KTRK, and the downbeat mood at KTRK dealing with it. Even a mention of changing the theme. https://www.houstonpress.com/news/changing-channels-65727852 points

I have some very news to tell you all, and it is with a very heavy heart to tell you that longtime KTRK Chief Weathercaster Ed Brandon has passed away peacefully last night at the age of 75. Ed came to KTRK in May of 1972 and spent 35 years delivering the weather to so many Houstonians to see whether they need sunglasses or a raincoat. Ed served for many years on The Advisory Board of Houston City Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. He hosted an annual golf tournament benefiting Cenikor, one of the nation's largest and most successful non-profit residential treatment centers for indigent alcoholics and drug addicts. A public memorial service is being planed. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences goes out to Ed Brandon's family and to Ed's extended family at ABC13 Eyewitness News (KTRK). Rest in peace, Ed and Godspeed. https://abc13.com/society/houston-abc13-weather-icon-ed-brandon-has-died/4029317/2 points

KOKI's version of the TVbD package you mentioned has also stood the test of time, I might add. Same with WSBT's and with KARE's similar iteration by that same company.2 points

8:30am: Introducing Anthony Scaramucci who is live in the temporary studio (to talk recent Trump news), Scaramucci says the East 67th St. studio is “from the King Kong era of New York” and at least this studio “is modern”. He cuts himself off, saying, “sorry, am I being too critical?” Lori’s response: “No, you’re telling the truth.”2 points

She seems to be moving down the NBC DMA totem pole. First DMA #4, then #7, and now #28. She must still be in good standing at NBC to keep moving within the company but the downward trend is puzzling. Maybe she’s married to someone who moves or got a job as Chief Meteorologist or better hours. Also, based on Keith Jones posts mentioning a couple of weeks for the move makes me think they’re waiting for the fall season. This major move is something that I would assume that they would promote for a while.1 point

They just hired someone for the weekend AM show. They moved Rosemary to the 11am (every time I watch the 11am Erin is on). Seems like an anchor overload. Perhaps Lucy will be a “breaking news” anchor in the newsroom? Couldn’t Rosemary have done this? Or Katy?1 point

It’s obvious Ernest wants to be the next Gene Scott and literally take the station into the grave with him. Even without the CW, it’s still a source of easy income, and he had to have foreseen that when he bought the license from Rex Humbard’s estate 35 years ago.1 point

If you don’t offer the current logo as an either or then the focus group can only change to something new... just sayin...1 point

I never said that they didn't, but I just gave my opinion. I know they went through research & marketing and the whole process ,however for the station to have the call letters of it owner, and to be the state first tv station. One would think they would embrace quality over quantity. They can do whatever they want, but we all have given our opinons on everything on this site. YOU don't have to like my opinion, but I'm just sayin'-1 point

...unlike WFXT which has a really bad logo, but did not listen to focus groups or do research for it (this was before the Boston 25 News rebranding, which was based on a survey).1 point

Weather was also at FNC building.. along with FNC weather graphics.. Traffic this morning just used cameras no maps.1 point
-
I need to check but I think FTVLivea tweet earlier in the thread said it came from the Fox News building. I’m not sure but I assume the weather graphics could be loaded easily or already available for Fox News reporters who file reports for stations. Sometimes weather computers handle chroma keying internally and have the ability to choose router sources. The weather computer if it was set up to handle keying internally could easily select the correct camera and output the right program. Assuming the cameras and the distribution system were still up they could easily send it back to Fox HQ.1 point

One website? I've not seen or heard of one before. You get scattered reports from industry mags, local papers, and blogs, but it's very likely that's as much as you can hope for, for now. Especially since a certain firm named Nielsen likes to be tight-fisted with their data.1 point

What studio at FNC were they using? The building has three empty studios - Studio A which, until 2017, was home to The O'Reilly Factor and is used for Watters' World once a week; Studio J where Huckabee, Mike & Juliet, The Five, Outnumbered and studio audience shows were based out of, and Studio E where Happening Now, Cavuto, & Fox and Friends were based out of...1 point

Two more from Jacky9br: First, a 6:00 p.m. edition of KTAL's Newscenter 6 from May 19, 1997 (featuring the production music theme that still needs identifying for title and composer): Second, a weekend 10:00 p.m. edition of KALB's Newscentral 5 from May 7, 1995: P.S.: I may have seen aspects of this when I traveled to Shreveport annually as a kid for medical treatments at the city's Shriners Hospital campus for my club foot, but even for the size of its market at the time, KTAL's news presentation seemed far below par. This is especially considering that KSLA and, particularly, KTBS (the latter of which was under locally based ownership as KTAL was at the time) had far better graphics packages in the late '90s. Clearly, WEHCO's sale of KTAL to Nexstar did them some good.1 point

Ha — one of the first things Rosanna and Lori said this morning was that they wanted to stay at FNC HQ. By the way, they’re broadcasting from a tiny temporary set with a large TV screen as the backdrop (with stationary GDNY/FOX 5 logo) in what looks like a lobby or small streetside production area of FNC headquarters. There’s some shots where you can see people waking by. One other thing to note: the “computer meltdown” seems to stem from the internet, at least according to Lori, who said a massive internet outage at their East 67th Street studios caused them to temporarily relocate.1 point

Or know no knows how to use it because we fired all the TDS and experienced staff. Edit: Also this breakdown must have been known well ahead of time in order for Shep to be in and the Fox crew to build the show. What I don’t understand is if they knew ahead of time why didn’t they have their anchors presenting from the Fox News studio?1 point
