You’ve suggested shutting down or outsourcing KYW and WTXF’s news operations several times. It was never “on the table” to begin with — no one at CBS, Fox, or at the local level has brought it up. You’re the only person who (stupidly, I must add) suggested shutting down a news operation.5 points

A good indicator a station has zero long-term commitment to a "new" newscast... No outside promotion or ads. No billboards... No Bus ads... No outside radio... No newspapers... No commitment.3 points

Par for the course. This doesn't surprise me at all at this point.2 points

Whoops, I was wrong — it was March 1981 that they dropped "NewsCenter 2". Sheesh, KTVI was changing imaging more than its underwear... (The Fox OSI theme has lasted longer than the last four music packages they used combined!) We don't have any early-80s 'HTM to really say, unfortunately. Though I did find this 1979 WTPA (!!) sportscast (the callsign change was in 1980 and this is January 27, 1979):2 points

I don’t think they do. However when they rolled out the flags in the lower third an email posted on FTVLive said it would be done remotely. That being said someone here said they were just given the Adobe Premiere files and to make it work.2 points

I talked to Freddie (houstontvnews) on Facebook and he told me that his YT account was disabled. Too many videos flagged by NBCUniversal in a short amount of time. He'll be back soon.2 points

Could there be new Scripps websites soon? Not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere but: https://www.kgun9.com/ Kinda looks TEGNA-ish.2 points

Today was Gene Cubbison's last day at KNSD! He is retiring! He is going to be missed for sure! KNSD did a nice piece on him.2 points

Frankly, I’d like to see him be threadbanned or at least put on Moderated Posts.2 points

The sense is a lot of this is the stuff on YouTube, which isn't unknown for them recently. Hopefully they dig out some stuff not on YouTube2 points

Is there a way to remove the boxes on the right hand side of the main page (i.e: Forum Statistics, Who's online, posts?) ? Also, is there an option for a dark theme like in the previous iteration?1 point

That KTVI open would be super cool to find. I do believe they debuted that "NewsCenter 2" logo in 1979 when Larry Conners took over the anchor desk after Gene Tuck left for San Antonio. That was when KTVI actually passed KSD in the ratings for a few years.1 point

Do we still have the ability to edit posts? If we do, I can't find it.1 point

Now that the redo-refresh is on and live, are there any plans at all for tweaking/adding sections?1 point

Is there any way to get rid of the floating Facebook and Twitter link buttons on the right side (iPad)? They’re very annoying, and all they do is open the same page in a new tab. Thank you.1 point

Or on mobile, click on the little newspaper icon at the top of each page, on the blue header. Once on that page, each thread's most recent post can simply be accessed by clicking on the green dot/star that bullet points each thread name.1 point

When I did New World at 20 a bit back, they *were* at one hour a day. In fact, there's even a promo for 13 Eyewitness News, Live at Six and Ten from the same year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Y8X6reUMGeM;t=18 They also had the smallest news staff in the market. They made a major news expansion with the Fox switch — they immediately changed the 10pm to 9pm, they had a newscast at 5 and then the morning show which started at 6am. By the way, that video contains a KTHV break bump with a Gilmer package from right before the "Today's THV" rebrand (which it seems was sorely needed)...1 point

Urk. I recall when that WHBQ open first got posted we all agreed KCRA’s take on it was better. However I do believe WHBQ had more than just 6pm & 10pm. A YT user named Shaun Fossett (who was a member on this site back in the day) told me they had a morning newscast (2 hour) and a noon newscast (half hour). They also had a 5pm news at some point too. But still, WHBQ was a market laggard. Which is why I ain’t doing Memphis news opens...1 point

I’ve alerted him already via conversation. While I assemble my KSTU compilation, here’s a clip I stumbled upon from early 2005(?) This was definitely the last package they used “News Source” with.1 point

This is full of so many little morsals that are now gone. I noticed they said the film crew was... A camera man, sound tech and an electrician. So I asked grandpa shark "what was the electrician for?" He said it was a "union thing..my little sharky..." He told me, 'The electrician handled all the batteries, lights and cables in the field during the news shoots." Besides he say's... "They could fit all those fat union guys into those big giant Pontiac Catalina's." Grandpa Shark is like 100 million years old...so he should know. Noticed also they called the graphics "mattes". This was before electronic graphics were common for news use and everything was press-on letters on cardboard chips. And those non-electric typewriters just perfect for throwing during drunken after show critiques. There was booze and porno in those desk drawers I promise you. Smoking, Smoking, Smoking! Hey kids... Those black thingys on the desk were dial corded "telephones". People used to die trying to use those phones when their fingers or hair would get caught in the dial...and chew them to bits... just like a wood chipper. And what about that producer with the stopwatch...and a Manuel bank style adding machine (calculator). WABC was highly criticized back then for it's style... Now we would consider that approach somewhat boring and pretty unpolished. Honestly, With all the film processing chemicals that leaked inside #77 it's amazing it's not an EPA superfund site...yet. Let the new owners/developer find out that little secret on their own.1 point
