  1. This is what I mean when people on here get all excited about new graphics or whatever when a company takes over a TV station. Fixing this is way more important to a company than a graphics package or standardized set.

  2. Yes, we have Office 365. By the way, the story is now in the Washington Post. The world needed an escape, I suppose.

  3. I bet the dollar to peso conversion rate is so favorable, these bureaus are costing them virtually nothing.

  4. Which that is literally right around the corner from where my parents and I have our Condos are at and also we go by there often when we're up in Branson. I live about 4 to 5 hours or so outside of Branson so we try to go up there at least once a year, do Sight and Sound, the Showboat and also eat at Lambert's in Ozark, MO.

  5. Same here. They did a great job! Some still do graphics in-house. I know Lilly Broadcasting is working on a refresh to their existing package. That should debut in early 2020.

  6. So this confirms it was in-house. This is really refreshing to see. I wish more stations would design packages in-house these days.

  7. Here is the article on their website about their logic and reasoning behind the package https://www.wave3.com/2019/11/22/who-are-artists-behind-wave-news-new-look/?fbclid=IwAR2SadbFPU10dANNocPjyjXwvHHvCvxI1z1mruysGRbD_xASv962jJccPH4

  8. Sad news out of WHTM abc27 tonight. (forwarding from the discord)

  9. Scripps is beginning to integrate KASW into KNXV; there is now a KASW section of abc15.com. Looks like they will change from "The CW Phoenix" to "CW61 Arizona". However: Nexstar's KASW website is still active, KASW's public files and children's programming files are not on KNXV's website yet, and KASW has not moved into KNXV's studio yet, although I bet that will come soon. Also, none of Scripps' other new stations have switched to their website styles yet.

  10. Those transitions also remind me of the Tribune CBS gfx, as well

  11. Did KTUL ever utilized their Chopper for Severe Weather coverage? Because I know KOTV HEAVILY utilizes Osage SkyNews 6 for Severe Weather coverage

  12. KTUL used to have a helicopter but since 2011 they haven't had one. Why KJRH doesn't get a helicopter who knows as for KOKI Cox probably doesn't want to spend the money especially with the sell to Apollo.

  13. Smaller market stations don't have the money to go in-house. That said, Gray should hire them to do that package (in colors that suit the stations) company-wide.

  14. It pretty much involves building out the new site and configuring it with all of the feeds and programs, of course this involves some redundancy in the transition phase where materials are fed to both locations for operations and testing. And it should pretty much be a flick of a switch where the old site no longer feeds then the new site kicks in. And as a safety measure, the old site is usually kept going a little while longer (if it was automated) as a backup in case there are hiccups or failures.

  15. You shouldn't have to take the station off the air (or get knocked off the air) with a little proper planning. Don't Try This At Home or Without proper Adult Supervision. Pretty simple actually... Your video, audio and data links all (presumably) have active back-up paths and circuits, that are used for maintenance or emergencies.. They are extra channels or spare "pipelines". On the big day, all you do is switch to the back-up circuits while you shut down the "main feeds" and establish and test the new signals. Once you are happy with the new signals...you just switch back from the back-up line to the main lines. ...and since you did a secret "test of the test" a few hours or days before...you are certain all will be fine once it's all "official". 16. The only reason I know that is because it was mentioned in their 35th anniversary special back in 1988. I'm not sure that I digitized that portion of the special. Several years back, I posted a short clip of station IDs, image campaigns, etc., from the program.

  17. I wouldn't be a bit surprised. I think one of the first things KY3 videotaped (not filmed) was the dedication of Table Rock Dam. Those lakes have played a major role in the history of the Ozarks.

  18. Good to know. I wonder if it's possible that it started even before the 80s. It makes sense that they have been running lake levels for a long time. The market is heavily agricultural with lots of places to boat on.
    1 point
  19. Yup. For a time, KOLR was splitting its weathercasts into two segments, with the first segment being the guts of the cast: maps, satellite, etc., then there would be a commercial break. Lake levels were shown going into that commercial break. After the break, the detailed forecast, extended forecast, etc.. When they weren't breaking the weathercasts into two segments, I want to say that they showed lake levels at about the midpoint of the commercial break following weather.

  20. So that's been going on since at least the 80s/90s

  21. I lived in southern Missouri from 1986 until 1992. For most of that time, all three of the Springfield stations were showing lake levels during the newscasts. KY3 and KOLR used simple chyron graphics (with a generic shot of a lake in the background), with KY3 showing the levels going into the commercial break before weather. It seems like KOLR showed the levels in a couple of different places over the years. KSPR, like KY3, showed the levels going into the commercial break before weather, but the levels were plotted on the weather computer -- a map graphic for Missouri lakes, and a wipe transition to a map graphic of Arkansas lakes.

  22. Sounds like a recipe for something exactly like this to happen. That said, this story is a pleasant break from the rest of the news. Especially this week.

  23. I think they may have started doing that in the late 2000s or something like that I remember when I went to Branson with my parents around 2007/08 (I was about 9 to 10 years old at the time) KOLR did a lake level report at the time so it could've been after 2004/05 when KOLR and the other Ozarks stations started doing that
    1 point
  24. That is really messed up.

  25. I'm curious to know when did KOLR and the other Springfield stations started doing the lake level reports on the lakes around the viewing area?

  26. Nick is a news/traffic anchor, not a meteorologist. But gather 'round everyone, and let me tell you a story of the great mass email of 2019. All of our email addresses end in fox4kc --dot--com. Most are firstname.lastname - at - fox 4 kcdotcom. The assignment desk has "news" at fox4kc-dot--com. But those are just shadow email addresses. Under Tribune, we were logging into computers, workday, outlook, etc., with (username #2) at tribunemedia-dot-com. This week Nexstar began migrating our accounts to its servers. Now we corporate accounts that are (username #3) at nexstar-dot-tv. Unbeknownst to us, news --at--nexstar dot-tv is a mass email to all the newsrooms. No one had ever told us that. When you combine a sleepy, medicated employee, some confusion that already existed over which username to use, and throw in another account name to remember, then I'm surprised this didn't happen earlier. Ironically, we never received the mass email, because Nexstar had not added the Tribune newsrooms to that group yet. Basically what some of us are doing right now is: 1. Logging into computers using account #1 at tribunemedia... 2. Logging into outlook for email using account #2 at nexstar.... 3. ...so that we can send emails using accounts that end in fox4kc dot-com.... 4.. ...and some of us still have to log into the newsroom software using old wdaftv4--dot--com addresses. I can keep it all straight, but some co-workers cannot.

  27. So on the Today Show they featured a meteorologist emailing a sick day. One problem he emailed it to the entire #NexstarNation people were using the #PrayersforNick and stations accounts would post get well soon. Here’s a FTVLive post.

  28. Most likely the policy varies from station to station, for example KFOR has had the sponsor attached to the Chopper 4 name since the tail end of the Local TV era. Because of that I expect KFOR to keep their bird, I know several ex-MG stations most notably WFLA and WAVY still have their birds.

  29. Based on this promo, Local 10 has reporters in Venezuela and Haiti, as well. On a side note, it seems like they are using the phrase "Local 10 News is everywhere". If I recall from earlier in the decade, WTVJ heavily promoted themselves by saying "Team (or NBC) 6 is everywhere". Not sure if that slogan is just for this promo, though.

  30. Master Control for KASW and WSFL goes live in Indy on Monday.

  31. That's really unfortunate. As for the L.L. Bean jackets, I wouldn't be surprised if they keep using the existing "24-Hour News 8" logo on those until the next time they place a bulk order. I think Nexstar knows that it would be a really bad idea for them to dump their news helicopter in the #2 TV market in the country. Notwithstanding what they did at KLAS, I would expect Nexstar to keep it at KTLA.

  32. I would be surprised if they didn't consolidate. But I'm sure it takes some time to get the master control, transmitter link, and all the other equipment and stuff relocated to KNXV's facilities. Especially if KNXV is going to be debuting new gfx anytime soon, I'd assume getting KASW relocated isn't at the top of their priority list.

  33. So I'm trying to find if this was mentioned someplace, but I can't see anything so I'll post here... A while back, there was a discussion about how WISH had dropped the 24-hour news moniker... Well it now looks like WOOD is now dropping it as well... While watching the news today I noticed the reporters are now signing off as "Reporter Name, News 8" instead of "Reporter Name, 24-hour News 8". Now granted their LL Bean jackets still show 24-hour News 8, but I do believe that the 24-hour news moniker is now gone... I am sad

  34. If anything, BH has allowed WPLG to open up its very own in-house news bureaus in D.C. and Havana because there's no way Graham would commit to anything like that.

  35. I'm sure they'll move KASW to KNXV in due time.. I know where both stations are and it's a decent drive between the two... KASW is located at 7th St. and Missouri, while KNXV is at 44th st and Washington, near Loop 202. Makes sense to condense it to KNXV

  36. For an in-house package, that is outstanding. Very nice. The gfx dept at WAVE deserve a pay raise.

  40. It's nice that Nexstar appears to be allowing a former Tribune station to keep their bird. Does anyone know anything about Nexstar's helicopter policy?

  41. KTLA's Sky 5 helicopter N925TV has been out for the past couple of weeks getting refurbishments. She's back now to match all of the KTLA fleet vehicles and branding, looking bright blue!

  43. In yet another update to the main ABC News studio, the monitors on the front of the desk are now completely seamless. The panels on the corners also have been removed entirely, after seeing a few different looks over the set's 9-year life. Only 2 to 20 more years before the move to the new building. They made this change during the last weekend of October, when no Saturday WNT is produced.
