  3. Bad take. I'm not from Philly, so I'm not really familiar with their skyline, BUT the very broadcast company in question here just built one of (if not) the tallest skyscrapers in town, and NBC10 was one of the first occupants. That deserves to be in an open. Besides, locals know the skyline and city, even if it's not as identifiable to out-of-towners like most of us here.

  4. WMAQ is the first to get new graphics, KNBC is second, and my home station (KXAS) is third.

  9. 23 years ago today Bill Ritter and Sandra Bookman anchored a newscast on WABC for the first time. Lee Goldberg did the weather for that newscast.

  10. I guess you haven't seen the Philly skyline since before 1984. There's a bunch of notable looking buildings in our skyline these days and this is just a piece of what it features: Comcast Technology Center is what you're referring to. It's the tallest building in Philly now and one of, if not the tallest in the country outside of New York and Chicago.

  11. Have we had video of the 1 minute version of "Memphis & Channel 3" yet? If not, here it is! This channel also has other neat Memphis stuff, including a dual sign-on for WLMT & WMTU from 1990: And a post-TVX influence id for WMKW, WCAY in Nashville had a similar ID: And some WMC newsbreaks from 1992/93 for good measure:

  12. This amazing piece of Yakima history has returned to YouTube. Personal story about this tape: When T.J. Close passed away in 2019, I was asked by Stu Seibel himself to make a copy of this video to DVD for T.J.'s family in Arizona who had never seen this broadcast. They were very pleased to get a DVD copy of this. It is sad to hear about a news legend passing away, but knowing that his memories will be handed down to another generation of the Close family makes me feel great, the public service that I do for those in Yakima and elsewhere. And did I mention Stu? KIMA News at 11, November 13th, 2001, with Stu, Alan Sillence, and Sten Walstrom. Part of USA's First Business from January 15th, 1993. Barton Eckert passed away last year.

  15. This new look cleans up so many of the bulky elements from the 2016 version, so that makes it an automatic upgrade, for me. Better balance of the blue and white elements, while keeping the bare bones structure. And I LOVE the flashes of the peacock colors in certain animations. Not divert the conversation, but I need to take a personal victory lap, here. During the pandemic, I screwed around with some ideas for a new O&O look, and I love that the NBC designers had some similar ideas to me. I didn't share these with anyone, and I had no prior knowledge to what was going to roll out. I kind of predicted the time/temp realignment (pic #1), though I left in the old, full-width social ticker and only slightly modified the 2016 L3s. I also tried out a look that emphasized the use of the peacock rainbow on a white lower third (#2). Anyway...

  18. The devastating collapsed condo building in Miami hits close to WSVN Chief Meteorologist Phil Ferro. Phil Godmother and Uncle were found in the rubble over the weekend. Prayers and condolences are with Phil Ferro's family at this very difficult time. https://wsvn.com/news/local/miami-dade/7weathers-ferro-opens-up-about-losing-uncle-godmother-in-condo-collapse/

  19. I beg to differ. There are no notable buildings in Philadelphia. In New York, there's the Empire State Building. In California, there's literally every building there. In Chicago, there is the Sears-Willis tower. In Philadelphia, there's nothing. You might as well put a Philly Cheese steak in the background and everyone will think, "look, it's Philadelphia."
