WCAU studios being in the headquarters of Comcast gives them easier access to the execs. Rockefeller Plaza is no longer the center of all things NBC; therefore the prominence of ‘CAU has risen. It is the 4th largest market (Philadelphia) so that shouldn’t be surprising. Of course WNBC is the East Coast “Flagship” and KNBC is it’s West Coast Counterpart. But WCAU is definitely at the top of the NBC O&O’s food chain. The money poured into the station would definitely make it a contender for “flagship” lite.5 points

I’d say the days of WNBC as the flagship is gone—they been replaced by WCAU. The perennial market leader continues with voiceovers and clear, recognizable, sonic branding.3 points

The days of Don Pardo voiceovers, introducing the newscast and talent, with grand music is long gone,. I'm not sure viewers really cared. This gets the newscast started quickly and provide the viewers with information quickly. It's been like that for so long we are used to it here.3 points

It looks like they're still using the Look F geographic map wipes (e.g. "Manhattan", "New Jersey"), but the package is so iterative that I suppose they still match. Overall looks great, lovely animations and typography. Glad to be rid of the grey bar on the bottom of Look F!3 points

While the normal KNTV opens look pretty rough, this special open, unbranded for random, primetime sports usage, is very clean. The white end screen is a nice alternative, and the station logo looks better, not being forced to stay between the vertical lines of the primary opens.3 points

No new music, intro is a bit shorter with only one "wipe", they're still using the four-note sting. Oh and they still have the "NBC 4 New York News at 4" wordings in their titles... even though they brand themselves as "News 4 New York"... thought they'd try to change their title wordings abit but oh well... A quick snippet of the first 5 minutes if you're interested, I don't plan to upload to YouTube, somebody probably will anyways... The stings and wipes look great but sounded weird with the old cuts... Especially the intro. https://streamable.com/9zv5vz2 points

Speaking of that, ‘CAU should go back and use that 360 theme FULL FORCE (LA Groove’s not it) for the opens again…1 point

My hot take is every station should use WMAQ's "new" (really used by WCAU first among the O&Os) open. But I was also a 360 fan so I admit my biases. Regardless, I believe it has the most impact, but anyways, that's just my take.1 point

WNBC's open is awful. I'm surprised they're still sticking with LA Groove. At least use the actual open to match the graphics. The 4 note sting just does not go well at all. Really surprised they did that.1 point

Southern California's #1 News, the Channel 4 News at 11, taped 3/23/97 (includes part of Sunday Night Sports) Partial KATU Channel 2 News at 11 with Jeff Gianola (top story: Billy Graham comes to Portland), taped 9/23/1992 Part of the KPTV Ten O'Clock News, taped 9/9/921 point

Something I think they could have done to personalize each open is replace the faint "NEWS" text in that horizontal wipe after the peacock with the call letters of each station. Just gives it a subtle little personality I think.1 point

Looks like they screwed up the keying of the logo. Alpha channels are your friend, people.1 point

It is very clearly from a production library. Maybe Killer Tracks? Compare to the PRISM Sports logo on EDIT: KT31-15 "Zap Ya" https://www.universalproductionmusic.com/en-us/discover/albums/589/sweepers-and-stingers-volume-1 They've added some of the stings from Dawn (track 37) for WBNS...not sure if that was a separate edit.1 point

Any idea as to who did the WMGM-TV news graphics & opens at the time? (1998), That was after they switched from Gari's "The One for All" to "NBC News Now" (which was originally commissioned for WTVJ NBC6 in 1997).1 point

Besides WBAY-TV, WTHR (pre-1997), WHP-TV and WGEM-TV, WICZ-TV in Binghamton, NY also used a variation of the "Balls and Walls" package before the switch to Fox in 1996.1 point

I do not claim to know how things work, but don't they have a weather producer who handles stuff like that? And it's not like she didn't already work at WABC for several months while Amy was out so she must have some familiarity with how things work. Can't imagine that she would post that she's starting at her new station on Monday if she was not going to be on the air. Makes perfect sense that she would be since it's a pseudo-holiday. PS we didn't really need to see images of her tweets, which were a PITA to remove when quoting your post.1 point

Any idea who did the WEAU-TV news opens & graphics around the same time? (late 1990s)1 point

I'm pretty sure they commissioned that look before anyone else. Here's how it looked in 1992, about a month after they moved into their current building:1 point

I guess KUSA-TV also used some variation of TVbD's famous "Balls and Walls" package (sans the globe), before the switch to NBC in September 1995.1 point

The Father's Day weekend Phillies-Giants series will only be seen on Peacock in the Bay Area and Philadelphia markets. It's free to watch, however.1 point

While all other Look S stations align their logos and wordings in the intros to the left, KNTV decided to go rogue and make the logos and title wordings go all over the place... Oh and don't get me started on the messed up Peacock colors... On the music side, they retained most of their LA Groove cuts from Look N (such as the "coming up" vamps, the closing theme). The only exception I observed is the intro.0 points
