  1. I noticed that too. On the contrary I can’t stand it for the same reason, drama. It makes the news seem more stressful, if that makes sense.

  3. My personal favorite version of CBSEN was when Bob Scheiffer was interim anchor from spring 2005 thru summer 2006. I think Norah is a solid journalist but I haven’t been thrilled with her version of CBSEN.

  5. Facts. But there's third place in a close fight, and then there's the kind of third place that CBS has seemingly become (another example, WBBM-TV)

  6. I think CBS should have kept Jeff Glor in Evenings. He was just becoming popular when they replaced him with Norah. Unfortunately, there has to be a network that's in third place and David and Lester were still more popular with viewers. Norah's not a bad anchor but I still liked her better on CTM and as a White House Correspondent. I also don't care that they sort of copied WNT's method of "shouting" the headlines at the beginning for drama. I actually do like that the newscast is now based in Washington, as they're always have been more news stories there than in NYC. I'll guess we'll see what continues to happen to their ratings. I don't see Norah going away in the foreseeable future.

  7. We could have a lot of fun over at the Speculatron with this... I'd argue the possibility that Bob was doing well and enjoyed Face The Nation too much to switch. Another one to speculate would be could some of the NewsNation talent find a home at CBS if that venture folds (cough, Joe Donlon, cough)

  9. The start of 24/7 broadcasting after CNN launched in 1980: This time, it was on local network affiliates. Meaning NBC affiliates carried Overnight, CBS News aired Nightwatch (now CBS Overnight News) and they even had the option to include CNN Headline News in their overnight lineup (ABC affiliates included after Nightline). Early Risers Delight: this was for people who don't have the luxury of watching the CBS Morning News, ABC's Good Morning America or NBC's Today Show. They need to be right out the door to beat the morning rush. CBS Early Morning News, ABC's World News This Morning and NBC Early Today + local morning news = what early risers needed before getting to work or school on time. ABC Late Night was never the same since NIGHTLINE Entered the Picture: Pre-1980 Consisted of wide world of entertainment, reruns of ABC primetime shows and movie of the week. Nightline with Ted Koppel launched in March 1980, giving ABC affiliates a post-late news alternative to Johnny Carson, who was a really big deal at rival NBC at that time. And who knew that Jeff Greenfield would join ABC News later on, and the same person he interviewed (Roone Arledge) would be his boss?

  10. That’s odd though this year’s Today at the Olympics has left much to be desired compared to past year’s (obviously COVID is playing a part in this).

  12. Beware of that Steven Walsh guy. He just reposts other people's videos. He has taken IDs from videos posted by The ID Junkie/Junkie's Tape Bin, Ntropolis, Rochester TV Archive, Channel 37, and others hours after those channels have uploaded their own videos. He gives no credit or does not ask prior to reposting other people's captures. I recommend not supporting users like him.

  13. Well for starters: the entire American TV Viewing Audience has dropped as a whole. Morning Shows is not the only genre or day part that has seen it ratings drop. Sunday Shows, Evening News Shows, Daytime Shows, Late Night and even Primetime have seen ratings slip as a whole. There is of course a lot of options now then there were 10-15 years ago and different ways to watch to watch tv shows. With Morning Shows people can live stream on tablets, computers, phones, etc,. Without having to turn on the TV. People can now DVR and of course wait until full episodes of morning shows are posted online to watch them. Not including Sporting Events and major news events TODAY Show has not averaged 6.5 million viewers on daily basic in at least 20 years. 2.4 Million is not unusual for CBS although not to recently they were getting 3.6 million on a daily basic the best a CBS Morning Show had ever done. Morning Shows ratings always tend to drop in the summer and then recover some of it lost viewership in the fall. However I do think COVID is to blame for more recent lost viewership. I think people are “Covid-out” tbh. That and the Election has practically been the only thing these shows have covered over the last year be I know they were the two big new stories last year but for many weeks Covid was non stop. I think people got tired after awhile and had no interest in watching the host do the show from home and celebrities (far on between” doing virtual interviews also from home. Also the constant coverage on Trump and the 2020 Election (some of which might be bias depending on your viewed) has probably turned some off. People are Covid fatigued and Election fatigued. TODAY and GMA were averaging 3.9-4.5 (1980s average) million before Covid hit. When life finally get back to 2019 normalcy and covid is thing of the pass and the shows get back fully to normal I think they will recover some of their lost viewership. Of course it won’t be 2000s or early 2010s level. these shows have always lighter side however they gotten even more fluff over the last 15 years or so. Also the way the fluff is presented has changed. If that make sense

  14. All I can say is thank goodness for CBS This Morning!! (Newsy is another worthy alternative, with Alex Livingston doing a wonderful job in mornings on the channel!)

  15. I think that more than anything industry trends have led to the low numbers. The days of Today averaging 6.5 M viewers were also the days when primetime shows were pulling in 20-30 M viewers and that hasn’t been the case for close to 10 years now. To a lesser extent, I believe (and hope) that the low numbers are a response to how bad GMA and Today are these days. It’s just complete trash watching the first 2 hours of both.

  16. Savannah has been working from home recently (I would assume in quarantine before traveling to Tokyo). Al appears to be in his upstate house here. The other three are all seated in front of the video wall in 1A. However, having them in a three shot next to two remote boxes would make everyone too small to see. So visually, it is easier to have everyone like this. For reference, I have attached a pic of what they look like in the studio.

  17. On Monday, there was a segment where we saw Savannah, Hoda, Carson, Al, and Craig all gather together to eat at a restaurant, celebrating how they're all vaccinated and that they can safely gather together as a group again. But as they were introducing this segment, we notice all of them in 5 separate camera shots, socially distancing. Why would they all be apart when they wanted to celebrate being together?
