  1. Let me try not to make the joke about a certain namesake of his.

  2. Who said he did? Anchors are humans. They are allowed vacations. They allowed sick days. And they are allowed to keep their private lives private. Throughout this time News4 was showing promos with David for the 11 pm show. Looks like real life to me.

  3. Some people overreact too much on these things. It's the middle of August. It makes sense that a senior anchor takes some time off. Not everybody is watching the news in the summer (COVID or no COVID) so stations will grant them break. People want to go outside. David will be back full time in the fall, I guarantee it...

  4. Not sure if we're tracking affiliate rollout of the new ABC logo here or not, but WDAY/Fargo has been using it on air for the last few days now. Everything on air and on social media is the same with the new ABC logo proportion-wise as it was before.

  5. It looks like Gray Television is now mandating the COVID-19 vaccine for all employees, not just the new hires. They have a September 15 deadline for managers and October 1 for everyone else.

  6. Brad Spakowitz of WBAY is moving into semi-retirement; he'll still do severe weather and fill-in coverage and his daily 4:30 "Three Brilliant Minutes" segment, along with BTS work for the weather department. One of the best and he deserves the rest!

  8. WMAQ filled a position immediately? Wow, now I've seen everything.

  9. New Anchor at KVLY-Fargo- Tom Tucker is being brought in from KESQ/Palm Springs. Current anchor Mike Morken is reducing his workload to just the 6:00 show. This part of the bio suggests he won't be here long... "He has worked for several ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox television news affiliates in several markets around the country" https://www.valleynewslive.com/2021/08/16/tom-tucker-will-take-valley-news-live-anchor-desk-10pm/

  10. Also WYMT since 2014. Wish they would bring back the previous WYMT logo, but drop the 57.

  12. They can promote one of their weekend anchors. I hear you about CBS 2.

  13. So out of curiosity how many Gray stations have yet to switch?? I know WILX in Lansing is still using the previous Gray package

  14. If it really is that much money Sinclair is asking, I would have to actually agree with Dish for once. And if Bally is indeed tied into this, then that's another reason why people are leaving pay tv IN DROVES. It's too expensive, and for what's left is driven up by the cost of programming when the programmers demand MORE and MORE in each cycle. Technology is pretty much to the point of breaking apart the pay tv bundle for good. Consumers can download all of the "apps" they need to watch what they want, and subscribe to smaller platforms to get most of the channels they desire. The only hitch is when the platforms like Roku decide they don't want to cooperate with companies like Google, and for how long it took for HBOMax and Peacock to be available on Roku and Amazon. As I mentioned before, are there any cable, satellite or pay tv providers left that still carry the RSN's, and/or do NOT force a surcharge on their customers for them being stuck in the "bundle" of channels they're most likely to get?

  15. they were running promos for the 11 pm news with David this morning. People are allowed to be on vacation, or have medical issues without the need to publicize it all over social media. I think it is up to what viewers think, not people on this board. Just like Lester Holt now standing throughout his newscast, it allows better use of the video boards. it does not bother me. But my vote does not count. Only NBC management and their audience survey teams know how the bulk of their viewers feel. If the anchors really had an issue, I'm sure they would bring it up and see if something can be accommodated.

  16. Get them chairs, dammit. They look ridiculous, side-by-side.

  17. This just feels super dated. I don't think ABC cares anymore...

  18. I thought the same thing. Now they need to revive the yellow and black scheme and the classic 4-note jingle as well.

  19. And it reminds me of the late 90s/early 2000s flat look of ABC and ABC News promos. https://youtu.be/r2KrtLHzdNA

  20. I find the new logo ugly and crude, but at least it's not an entire revamp of ABC in general. The last thing we need is the black circle disappearing altogether. However, the on-screen logo bug reminds me of how it looked on primetime and daytime shows in the '00s, flat 2-D and not the 3D they have been using since the start of the HD days.

  21. Glad to hear there’s push back on the proportions. Hopefully the stations can keep their current proportions. I imagine that for most stations — both the owned group and affiliates — the logo proportions would be a huge and unnecessary burden on top of swapping in the new logo on all their on-air products.

  22. ESPN has filled one of Maria's former slots. Holly Rowe has been appointed as new sideline reporter for Saturday Night Football.

  23. Because it's an obvious downgrade from the set's original set. This new one worked just fine for pandemic shows, allowing for more standup shots and distance, but if distancing is not needed, then the previous, seated position is superior.

  24. I think standing cheapens the look. They really need a new desk and rethink this whole standing thing especially for this being the #1 market. Other O&O's have much better desks.
