Although many here would approve, I find it hard to believe that they'd bring back Kala after they dumped her from that spot.

Resurrecting this topic after a year to report that WKYC seems to be going with a more “traditional” (and very blue) open for its 6pm newscast. (The name remains…as does the circle 3 and in-newscast graphics.) Are bigger changes coming?

NBC News confirmed to NewscastStudio that the show has “permanently” moved to Studio 1A.

Looks good - the prominent Today logo element tells me that this is probably temporary though. I can’t image they would have redesigned the Today studio last week with that if it was to be a general NBC News set.

Looks decent, and they do use the studio better than Today. I hope it doesn’t become like Studio 57 on CBS, used for everything.

I don’t like the consolidation of studios in such a vast footprint as Rockefeller Center but NN utilizes Studio 1A rather well. Even better than Today.

Also, I would like to think that over time, Vanessa will be assigned to more newscasts aside from 4pm; since she went from anchoring 2 1/2 hours to 1. It would be cool to see her get the 6pm with Kori.

Yeah I noticed this the last time I went to Cleveland a little over a month ago, and besides the logo, the opens for the 6, 7 and 11pm newscasts look pretty good. The stingers also use this, and they look good too.

Actually, I was wrong. It was Kirsten and Dan. No John today, at least not at 5am.

It's Kirstin Cole's spot officially if they make the right decision. However, also I'd put Shirley Chan in the running. Although, she's the additional coverage when Tamsen or Kori is out.

Per Vanessa’s fb page she mentions she’s going to miss her am team. So sounds like she won’t be doing both mornings and afternoons but co-anchoring the 4 and likely reporting for the other evening shows.

I guess intelligent morning tv would be like the Bryant Gumbell/Jane Pauley years on Today as the best example. Extended interviews, news magazine type feature pieces and conversations with people like military generals, foreign policy experts, and introspective authors. Dumbed down would be modern GMA. Stories on some former Power Ranger actor caught up in a murder mystery or secret recordings of dentists’ snarky side comments while the patients were under anesthesia (ACTUAL stories that they have done). CBS Mornings on the other hand would be focusing on millennial home buyer-ship rates, climate change’s threats to Florida’s oyster population, and pandemic exoduses from cities to the rural areas (actual stories they’ve done). They borrow some bits from the competition but the positives outweigh that for me.

Do we think new O&O graphics will roll out this week or next week? WABC used the new ABC logo in their 9/11 coverage, but just during the opening graphics. The bug used the old ABC logo, which is odd considering normal news coverage has been using the new logo in the bug and the old logo in the opens.

I came THIS CLOSE to rechristening the thread as CBS Early This Mornings News Show. Oh, and the lower thirds suck. The rest of everything is solid.

Agreed. The graphics are very CNN and the CBS bug is too small, otherwise the lower third is a nice look, much improved! The name change however was utterly unnecessary. If this fails, give up the morning attempts and hand the slot to the local cbs affiliates.

WLKY is adding a 9am newscast in September.

I do like the new ABC logo, but not the size of it. Rather the ABC size be same size as the 7 logo and be right beside it. Like CBS 2 for example. By 2033, we should have this logo.
