  1. From 1992, a topical promo for WMAQ's 10 p.m. news: And from WTSP's then-sister station KTSP in Phoenix (at the 0:38 mark):

  2. Ahh I see- very happy for them; especially both being veterans of the morning show for 22 years! Now all we need is Linda Church to come out of retirement and finally make the move to weekends

  3. WCBS short lived "2 News" era (1996-97). Wish it lasted longer! Though the station was going downhill in the ratings at the time, this graphics package was much better than the News 2 era that followed it.

  6. The WGN B-team has only truly solidified itself in the last 5 years, with Larry, Robin, and company still appearing in the 5 o'clock hour within the last decade, until the 9am hour launched (2013?). The early team has seen 5 different anchors, two meteorologists, and a few traffic anchors, until they finally settled into the current line-up. Until the current team found their footing, they weren't very competitive, but having the A-team on from 6am gave the station an easy win in the hour. Why kick the other stations' butts at 7, when you can also do it at 6? That said, the B-team is now #1, too, but the 6 o'clock switch is well-engrained. No need to change it.

  7. Does Nexstar Really think they will be able to compete against the unbeatable WRAL and ABC O&O WTVD? If I were Nexstar, I would sell this station to CBS Already. Raleigh is a growing market and how poor this is proves that either Nexstar has given up or doesn't care. CBS could do so much better if this station was an O&O again.

  8. And WNCN has launched their 4:00 pm newscast. No more temperature, just time. The open seems to be some in-house modifications of the generic Nexstar CBS open. New VO, but I can't tell who. CBS Local remains, but now they're using the same cuts as WKYT.

  9. No one should be really surprised. For the last several years it seems that the network's goal is for the affiliate to air their daytime show on its recommended timeslot. Look at all of those stations that use to carry Y&R at 4pm prior to a few years ago (i.e. KMOV, WAFB).

  10. According to TV Passport, WNCN in Raleigh is cutting the noon newscast down to a half hour, and moving The Young and the Restless to 12:30p (currently they air it at 4p). Y&R has aired at 4p in Raleigh since 1993.

  11. I mean...the CSD's work here is very childish, like a lot of Nexstar stations' in-house work. New watchers (important for the marketers) will not be captivated if your graphics are garbage. Nexstar, please hire CSDs that know today's design languages.

  13. Well Dunne Talent blog is reporting that Linda Kane, who was in charge of Linda Kane Design, has passed away. She pioneered the iconic "flat" graphics looks seen on KTLA, WKYC, and various WB affiliates in the late 90's along with MSNBC's trendy early '00's overhaul.

  14. New blog entry by Chris Cimino explaining how he got the job at PIX11 and what he's gone through since leaving WNBC Weathering the Changes in Life - What’s Next Chris? (chrisciminoweather.com) Also mentions that he and Marysol will be co-hosts of a lifestyle show in the 10-11am hour. I guess that means that the news anchors won't have to work a five-hour shift anymore. And hopefully it means that Ben Aaron will be gone, since he is best taken in very small doses IMHO,

  15. Nexstar does not think they will be able to compete against WRAL and WTVD. Their main/only market are people who are loyal CBS viewers and went mad by the fact WRAL lost its CBS affiliation. In other words, all of the ex-Outlet operated TV stations are in ruins. WCMH has a weak anchor team and poor graphics. They are a divestiture option for Nexstar, though. WJAR is just your regular Sinclair station. Obvious Fact: WJAR and WCMH have the same VO. WLWC is now just an empty shell after Michael Dell mercilessly sold it's spectrum and CW affiliation. They have a virtual channel assignment, and CourtTV accessible on that VC. That's it. You can see what Nexstar did to WNCN, right here on this thread! And lastly, WWHO is owned by a guy named Stephen P. Mumblow. There is not much money being invested in this station besides the engineering department. 360 is retained. They can do away with the unnecessary 3D, gradients are superior. Also, I WISH that Nexstar would stop offering this package to stations since Circle City has since bought its original user.
