  1. Surprised to see ABC using the bulletin branding as late as 2004. I wonder when they completely dropped using that and just stuck to special report. Special Report is a little overused for repeating events such as the impeachment trial or January 6 hearings. The live coverage designation, like back in the day, would be better suited for such events.

  2. There is honestly something so real with Dan Rather holding a pointer and pointing at the map. These days that same map and location would be used graphically with highlights. I know people say "oh that doesn't work today" with the old morning sets but you can still have some depth and warmth to a set and have some of the heavy use of technology used today. A perfect example is the 2013 Today set or the 2005 GMA set when they went to HD.

  3. But that's a lot of space for just a weather center. That 2008 set was pretty spacious, and it included a nice sized weather set. It would also be kind of weird for the weather person to be in one area of the building and the rest of the news team in another.

  4. MSNBC showed off some updated breaking news backgrounds, the in-studio elements have been used before but they swapped the standard blue & yellow Reports background for a red background with an added “breaking news” vertical crawl. I wonder if it’s the new look or just used for major breaking stories since they, like everyone else, overuse the breaking news banner. Either way it looks sharp. Old/Standard breaking news look:

  6. Yeah I figured based on lighting that was not the final result haha; for a temporary set that looks great aside from the lighting issue! Excited to see the new one when its revealed; Dan called it a "big renovation". Makes sense since their current studio always looked a bit dated and traditional, although that was a look they needed at the time to re-establish themselves as a serious contender. Seems like they're on the 10th floor newsroom instead of the 2nd floor now. https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce0qBeeOlsD/
