  1. If Larry King was still with us, his infomercials would have higher ratings!

  2. Might as well put Matt Lauer on the morning show and Charlie Rose a talk show as well. NN doesn't feel like the centrist outlet it launched as.

  3. Since they were nice and credited us: NewscastStudio has confirmed the split is for WNBC/WNJU.

  4. Yes, I agree. I'd rather see our local NBC station air something else in the timeslot. I'm surprised it's not yet another hour of news with the Today Show branding...

  5. I think Days is the last relic of the era when NBC had Sale of the Century, Another World, Santa Barbara, Scrabble and Daytime Wheel of Fortune.

  6. I've moved all the set posts to the dedicated thread, so we're not carrying on two conversations at once.

  7. Could the other soaps (GH, B&B, Y&R) move online to make room for more alternative network programming (or even additional news or syndicated product)?

  8. Just realizing that with DAYS gone, NBC Daytime has finally collapsed after years of faltering behind CBS and ABC in terms of soaps especially. It's amazing that cable was touted as the next big thing only to fall apart in just a few years once Netflix began streaming original content. Cable was like CDs & DVDs... replaced VCR/casettes only to not last as long because streaming took over.

  9. Crazy as it is seems, but I don't think we will ever see someone on daytime in the league of Oprah ever again. I would love to be proved wrong though. The daytime landscape is different from what it used to be; streaming and social media have taken away daytime television's relevance since you can get entertainment and infotainment anytime in the palm of your hands. Big-name media giants have all tried to replicate the magic with already-established personalities like Anderson, Meredith, Katie to lackluster results. With the cable industry being a former shell of itself, I totally see broadcasting going to the wayside eventually and the local news industry evolving to meet customer demand on other platforms. I think that this is the reason why you are seeing more newscasts these days rather than stations investing in a talkshow, it's just easier and affiliates are preparing for a time when their audience will more likely see them on an app, social media or on their Roku box. When we get to that point, are network affiliations be of importance? If you ask KTLA, the answer is "not anymore".

  10. I think five is sufficient. Four main on-air ones plus a fifth as a behind-the-scenes producer/fill-in.

  11. So Fox and CBS essentially keep their current prime college football windows, while NBC gets back into college football (not counting Notre Dame) for the first time in ages. And I’m sure ESPN is more than happy with their monopoly on the SEC. Speaking of Notre Dame, one must wonder what the future of their program will be in light of these new TV deals. With the increasing consolidation occurring in college football, I imagine ND will link up with a conference (most likely the Big Ten) sooner than later. EDIT: It’s also worth noting how the costs of these rights have increased. If the networks are willing to shell out more money for games that aren’t as strong, it shows that the networks need the sports leagues more than the sports leagues need them.

  12. Been a fan of Wayne Brady ever since his Whose Line Days on ABC and enjoyed his energy on his self-titled prime time and daytime shows. For some reason, I can never really get into "Let's Make a Deal" which always feels stale and repetitive, I wonder if it's just the style of the set that reeks fluorescence lighting from the 1980s, the cheesy music that lacks texture, or the contestants trying too hard to make an impression.. just never my cup of tea, and I usually enjoy The Price is Right and the other primetime game show revivals. But as a treat, this is the website of the first iteration of Wayne Brady Show when it was on ABC primetime: https://web.archive.org/web/20010801144214/http://abc.go.com/primetime/waynebrady/wayne_home.html

  13. Hearst is almost debt free for not going on a huge M&A frenzy as the rest of the groups. This means free cash flow. While other groups are in debt in the BILLIONS, Hearst sits back with only MILLIONS in debt and are able to do so much more being a private company.

  16. Late but, after seeing this TMZ interview it's pretty evident why Wendy Williams was absent from her show's final episode.

  17. GMA3 already does this, allowing ABC affiliates to do a quick news update before the second half of the show.

  18. WOW! After 57 years. I always knew that Days would be the first to go in the final 4 soaps, being that it had the worst budget among them. The lighting was at it's cheapest point and sets kept getting smaller and more repetitive. Storylines (like all sopas) were in a bad state. At least this isn't a full blown cancelation, and the idea of soaps on streaming might be more acceptable this time around versus when All My Children and One Life to Live tried it in 2013. As soaps continue to go the way of the dodo bird, I doubt that more news and more short term talk shows are the answer. As for the news we will get, it'll be more of the same: inflation, January 6th, COVID, the supreme court and pop culture. No unique international coverage, just wash rinse repeat. As for B&B, it should stay at 30 minutes. Soaps should've never been expanded to an hour , due to the amount of scripts and budgetary constraints. I don't think CBS wants to mess with Y&R's 12:30 time slot as it's still the number one rated soap (if that's still worth something) and O&O newscasts aren't top performers.

  19. https://www.wyff4.com/article/days-of-our-lives-move-streaming-only-peacock-soap/40800608 This article says “NBC News Daily” will be live “in most markets. So I guess 1pm ET/noon CT? I don’t see what would be keeping the MT stations from picking it up live at 11am and even the PT stations at 10am. Hoda and Jenna could be pushed back to 11am….heck it’s delayed anyway out there.

  20. With the return of J-P Dice to WBRC, they will now have SEVEN meteorologists on staff. Likely the most out of any station in the southeast region. https://marketshare.tvnewscheck.com/2022/08/08/wbrc-birmingham-adds-familiar-face-increasing-meteorologists-to-7/ IMHO, they should have stayed at 6, it would matched their channel number. And lest we forget down at 33/40, where one reigns supreme over all...
