  1. Not only were NEWSnet covering the Queen’s death, they actually have someone stationed outside Buckingham Palace to cover the death.

  2. I wouldn’t put too much stock into the Twitter complaints. There are many people out there who will cry “bias” if someone is the slightest bit critical of their ideological viewpoint (also, Twitter is home to a lot of sociopaths). That said, Chuck Todd just isn’t a good presenter or moderator, and can come off as pretentious at times. Like you said, he got too big for his britches.

  3. I'm sure over its history, NewsNation is known by most people when it had any WGN related branding. I'm sure most people outside of TV and news enthusiasts have never heard of NewsNation. I'd bet most people I know have never heard of it unless they casually scroll through the guide. I had high hopes for the network, but the constant talent and programming changes compared to other outlets doesn't help either. It seems like maybe it's time to go back to general entertainment if the incoming changes don't move the ratings. I don't think the non-Chicago version of WGN America from 2014-21 was popular either with the exception of maybe a few originals. Had no idea Newsnet had a European correspondent.

  4. WCBS is starting to introduce the CBS New York brand outside of news. Meanwhile, WBZ and WJZ have both dropped the gold from their logos. WJZ seems to be adopting the “On Your Corner. In Your Corner.” slogan seen on promos for CBS News New York. Some images/video: FullSizeRender.mov

  6. NewsNation is pathetic when it comes to breaking news, hell Thursday, "NewsNet" & One America News were both covering the news out of the UK regarding the Queen. At this point it's fair to say News Nation is simply a pass through news network focused on only domestic news and a poor one at that. NO ONE I know watches News Nation, no one I know has ever heard of News Nation.

  7. NewsNation SHOULD HAVE stopped regular programming and AT LEAST SIMULCAST WGN-9 when the announcement broke out... But they didn't. What a joke of a 'network'. Poor Dan Abrams, Marni Hughes, and Leland Vittert. Whenever the time comes to jump ship, do it!

  8. I would not go full out on that just yet. Yes WSB is slowly dying but it's legacy and anchors will keep it up until the ship sinks. WAGA will be their real competitor for the foreseeable future for #2 thanks to the rate WXIA is going thanks to TEGNA until WSB starts to kick the bucket (aka the current anchors start leaving) Plus we will have to wait and see what product ANF even produces, but we do have what maybe three weeks until launch so not too long? Just pray they don't get any of the extremely bad Gray packages!

  9. Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if they beat channels 11, 5, AND 2 in the ratings. Their new image has me under the impression that ANF has Serious potential to be #1 in Atlanta for years, if not decades to come.

  10. It’s just “19 News” now, with “Cleveland’s CBS 19” as it’s general brand, thanks to him.

  11. Yeah that was crazy. They did so for like a month back in 2016, then changed it back to air The List at 6:30pm. I don't get why they expanded it only to then go back to a half-hour just a month later.

  12. What I don’t understand is that they keep boasting that they have the news resources of all their station. Here in NYC, PIX broke in with a bulletin, why not show that? In fact to make it look like a NN bulletin, put the reader in front of a green screen with a NN background for the national, and a local branding for the station

  13. NewsNation has problems. Lots of problems. Hiring Cuomo isn't going to fix any of them, now that I think about it. Sure, it may increase ratings, but the bottom line is this: They are heavily unreliable when it comes to breaking the news outside of their news schedules. "The Queen passed away at 96?" Too bad, no news for you! "July 4th shooting in Chicago right near WGN station headquarters?" Ha! Tough luck! "King Charles III gives speech?" Better luck next time, television viewers! It's going to take a lot more than just a ratings increase and "star-studded" talent for NewsNation to finally get to the promised land, and having an "Us vs. The World" narrative as perfectly demonstrated on "Dan Abrams Live" two nights ago when the Queen died is absolutely, positively not one of them. It's okay if a news organization doesn't have the resources that other more established organizations have, but to habitually miss out on big news like this? Perhaps the people who hoped NewsNation would improve as time wore on have given false hope to some extent. No wonder NewsNation has become the laughingstock of the news industry, not just from a ratings standpoint, but from a trust standpoint, too.

  15. They do have a history of knee-jerking (Ann Curry), but there has been VERY vocal disdain for Chuck Todd online all year. It seems like every Sunday he's trending on twitter and it's never anything good. Granted, it's Twitter, and the people who are fans of NBC/MSNBC are ideologically to the left much like the company. Biggest criticisms of Todd I've seen is that he's moved too far right or, as an attempt to not seem like a left-leaning shill, he's tried (unsuccessfully) to play Devil's advocate or be more "neutral." I think he got too big for his britches as time went on. He might have been an ok choice initially as a replacement, but I think it's clearly time to move on. It's the same situation with Andrea Mitchell.

  16. I've watched all 30 seasons, but won't be following it to D+. If the previous hosts hadn't been replaced, I might sign up, just for season 31. As someone who doesn't have his head under a rocked, I'd always be familiar with all but 1 or 2 cast members, every season, even if only by basic name recognition. This season's crop features 5(!) individuals who I've NEVER heard of. If my awareness is any barometer, this year's cast is a step down. Anyway...

  17. I heard it was going to focus on good news with interviews, so not like a typical newscast. Cindy does seem like a perfect fit for that. I remember watching her and Morry Alter as a kid on the morning news and she has always had such a friendly delivery. I really hope they also give her noon but bring John Elliott along with her, because the two of them work well together but especially if it’s a good news type of newscast, John is good at that, too!

  20. I'm sure it'll be just a temporary branding. New York and Chicago are sticking with the CBS 2 (News) names for their 9am entries, and we know that won't last.

  21. Reading the previous few posts there is a common theme. Despite its name, NewsNation is not a full fledged news network. It is part time to begin with, is inflexible with the 24 hour ever changing news cycle. It has many limitations on covering major stories and events. It seems more a read a wire service, splice in some video, make it about the personality service. For those of us of a certain age who remember the beginnings of CNN (and even the short lived Satellite News Channel from Group W) they may have been run on the cheap but committed full time to the news and had agreements in place all over the globe for breaking news. The UK and US are intertwined in their special relationship. Could NewsNation have had a deal in place with the folks who do ITC, Channel 4 or Channel 5 News (assuming BBC has deals in place and has coverage of BBC World on many cable lineups and Sky is owned by NBC Universal)? In some ways you can look at this as a test of NewsNation's ability to cover a major international story and they failed, miserably. The good news is very few people probably tuned in to watch Dan Abrams kvetch (His ratings are minuscule to begin with and the opening NFL game was on last night) and Cuomo and whoever else Nexstar decides to bring in won't increase viewership much. At the end of the day, NewsNation is not the go to channel for breaking news stories of any significance. I'm not sure it ever would be.

  22. I've aired my grievance before about Brenda Blackmon and Kaity, and I'll say something similar about Muller. It's a disappointment that his tenure in the evenings didn't last (while Tamsen Fadal's still there) and that he was pushed off to weekends (and she wasn't). They should've kept John on weekdays and demoted her. I previously found Tamsen an okay anchor, but now I must ask... What do they see in her? Why is she still where she is? And what is so important about her that the execs insist she's their main face of their news op -- when better is right in front of them? Does she have an ironclad contract or something?

  24. You don't need to be shocked about this, though. Practically, none of us should, if their history is anything to go by. Virtually every single major news outlet (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, etc.), including Fox News and even Newsmax, is providing as-it-happens breaking news coverage of Queen Elizabeth II's passing at the age of 96 (she'll be dearly missed). NewsNation, on the other hand? Would you believe it, they're showing "Blue Bloods" in lieu of any live coverage! The death of Britain's longest-reigning monarch in history (seven decades at the throne) is taking precedence over basically everything else in the news cycle, and still, NewsNation doesn't want to let go of "that beautiful syndie rerun footage..." Way to go, NewsNation. Way to go. Your one big chance, and you blew that, as well...

  25. I think Viacom/CBS is simply messing with our minds at this point. They know they've got us where they want us, we're hooked waiting for something, anything, any minute now we're gonna find out, and nothing ever happens. They mean to drive us all stark raving nuts.

  28. If the rumors are true then good riddance to Chuck Todd. He's not a good moderator and asset to NBC. People on the left, right and center can't stand him. As for Guthrie, MTP would be a promotion for her and Craig Melvin can take her place as Co-Host with Hoda. But it's FTV Live, lets take it with a grain of salt.

  31. NBC News Daily will have four live feeds... 12 Noon, 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00pm ET, which is in conjunction with the NBC News NOW schedule. You mean KMNF-LD Mankato? I'm not aware that Graham Media does must runs because I don't think they do. What WKMG does do though is run two half-hour shows that are produced by them, After The Whistle (sports) and Getting Results (investigations/consumer reports), that air on Saturdays after their 11:00pm news.
