Mathis Court....do they only take cases that involve Johnny Mathis? Basically, any of these daytime court shows that come out of Entertainment Studios are very low-budget in appearance, even down to the courtroom "set" that looks like the walls are cheap doors they purchased at Home Depot on the cheap. Case in point, the backdrop for Justice with Judge Mablean...5 points

No need to say sorry, I totally agree; it’s very distracting. And besides, what are we here for if not to nitpick everything.4 points

According to someone on the Discord server, the regular linear station has the CBS News bug blue, while streaming is white. What is Texas doing right now?? Get your graphics in order.2 points

The fact that they went on Roku etc. in the first place is a sign that even Nexstar knows the gravy train of cable retrans revenue isn’t going to last for too much longer.2 points

The Main Studio Rule was abolished in 2019, and every ION station office closed up soon after. An hour of public service programs on weekday mornings produced by those stations were accordingly canceled, according to Wikipedia2 points

Sounds like a waste of Mathis's talents. He sounds great with the real cases.2 points

Yeah I have to add to that, but Jodi Applegate could’ve holded a 6pm show. Kaity and Jim would still be here if that stupid Bill Carrey move didn’t happened.2 points
-
Yeah it was definitely not as much the adding of Jodi as anchor; but rather the forced demotion of Jim and Kaity, who many would argue was one of, if not the best long running anchor teams in NYC in terms of chemistry, skill, and trust (next to Chuck and Sue).2 points

He reminds me of Tyler Perry. Billionaire status, alot of resources and money, but still insists on putting out a cheap product (OWN soap operas and quickly produced movies). Allen's court shows damage the genere furthering the notion that ALL daytime judge programs are fake. Even the logo for Allen's production company gives off that low budget vibe.1 point

His writers must be cheap af. But you'd think it'd be cheaper to...idk....not pay both writers and actors and just do real cases. I'll even forgive him cheaply using the same set. He seems to keep that same energy with his TV stations and everything else. For him to have all that money...... well, that's why he has all that money.1 point

Sorry for being nitpicky, but they didn't even align the CBS News logo right. Some portions of the graphics aren't aligned right either.1 point

KRON NewsCenter 4 at 11 Nov 10, 1988. They had just introduced the '4' logo that's been used through present day, but wouldn't get around to updating the lower thirds for almost a year.1 point

Too bad Lionel Hutz is no longer with us. He alone would add another 20 years to the Simpsons parodying all of the legal tricks and ads since Phil Hartman's passing.1 point

Very Fake - Actors from LA. Unlike the traditional court shows, producers don't look through small claim cases in different cities.1 point

If Jodi hadn’t replaced a successful duo, she might’ve gotten better ratings; the unceremonious dumping of Jim and Kaity was why I haven’t really watched PIX since. Looking back, I probably would’ve been welcoming of the changes if they had been implemented at 6:30pm (or another time slot) instead of 10pm.1 point

So Judge Mathis will become another time-filling (insert court type) court with (insert Judge name) host in the Byron Allen media empire? I can''t tell the difference between any of his shows. Probably even use the same "plaintiffs" and "defendants" as well as audiences.1 point

Oh good, now a certain user here can stop posting thrice-weekly threads asking if a new set is coming soon. Those will be replaced with thrice-weekly requests for progress updates.1 point

I can't imagine local stations/newscasts adopting the NewsNation branding. Specifically because of the word "nation" in there if they want to emphasize being local ("New York's own"). I also think "NewsNation" is a lame name. Sounds more like a news fan club or something. Not a newscast, and certainly not a channel (that only sometimes has news).1 point

Because most people watching have a phone in their hand or sitting next to them which tells them the time and temp.1 point

Simple takeway: PIX 11 has been pushing potential since moving away from its funky Jodi Applegate era, but just need to apply themselves.1 point

Independent based on what??? Where/why are you getting the impression that WDIV is in a bad place with NBC? People are leaving stations all over the country, in droves. Yes, some operations are getting hit harder than others, but this is a problem for the whole industry.1 point

Ion is positioning itself to be more like Weigel’s Heroes & Icons, at least based on a recurring promo that is now running on Scripps News. The slogan they tout is “A Home for Heroes” in a promo of their off-network syndicated crime dramas. I think I liked it better when they were just “Positively Entertaining,” but that’s just me thinking about clever promotion.1 point

I am skeptical that a short five to 15 minute episode of "Overtime" from YouTube will help move the needle for CNN's ratings. Regardless of one's opinions of Bill Maher, "Overtime" is just less interesting and compelling than a full episode of his "Real Time" series on HBO. This all comes across to me as CNN pretty much throwing spaghetti at the wall.1 point
-
I don't like this. I was actually just watching some of Maher this morning and was reminded of how much I dislike him. He doesn't offer any unique insight, spends a lot of time complaining about younger generations based on very exaggerated stereotypes, and "both sides"ing everything. And he seems disappointed that his in-studio isn't nearly as smart as he thinks he is. Feels like a bad fit for CNN and a lazy choice. Not producing anything new, just taking something that HBO shot earlier that night.1 point

I was watching Bounce last night and just curious about the logistics. Right on the money, "WSFJ-TV, LONDON, OHIO" appears at the top of the hour. I'm assuming that it is hubbed somewhere? Do they hub it here in Ohio or with the other ION stations? First of all, why isn't anybody smart enough to type "LONDON - COLUMBUS" into the computer? Second, I'm curious why they picked London as their city of license. It was Newark before, and that's about 50 miles away on the other side of Columbus. Also, they channel-share with an LPTV station. That adds another link in the chain that could possibly break. Who monitors that? Do they have to have a local presence anymore? Like an office or a studio somewhere in town? Do they have local public service requirements they have to meet anymore? And if they were smart, just as a marketing gimmick, they would bring back the WLWC call letters. I'm sure they'll just keep running this on autopilot, but if they ever do want to turn this into a real TV station, you might be able to get noticed in the market that way (like WWJ). WSFJ stands for "Winning Souls for Jesus." I wonder if anybody at Scripps even realizes that.1 point

Launching the new 3-anchor dayparts, revamp evenings, set studio assignments, AND roll out new graphics, all around the same time, around the end of Q1.1 point
-
Not to worry. Word is new graphics are on the way with ideally everything else (new shows, graphics, etc..) in place by Licht 1 year anniversary with CNN. More like a Jon Stewart or John Oliver. Unfortunately, I can’t see anyone wanting to commit to doing a show 4-5 days a week. Those days are probably over. Plus, can’t see there being much interest from viewers for a show like that.1 point

I still would love to see Velshi and Ruhle paired up again. That 11AM/1PM hour was one of the best news hours in television.1 point

A programing shake up at MSNBC: Weekday changes: José is leaving 10AM and moving to 11AM, Chris expands to 2 hours, Katy moves to 3PM and Hallie leaves to focus on NBC News Now, the open 10AM hour is expected to be given to Ana Cabrera who is joining MSNBC. 10AM: MSNBC Reports (rotating anchor) 11AM: José Díaz-Balart Reports 12N: Andrea Mitchell Reports 1PM: Chris Jansing Reports 3PM: Katy Tur Reports Weekday changes begin Monday, February 13. Weekends are also getting a shake up: Live programs now being a hour later with Katy Phang at 8AM (moving from the 7AM hour), Johnathan now gets both days but only 1 hour, and Ali moves to a new spot. 8AM: Katy Phang 9AM: Johnathan Capeheart 10AM: Ali Velshi Weekend changes begin Saturday, February 18. I’m happy to see consolidation of dayside hours but unclear as to why Andrea still has an hour, could’ve really cut costs by going to three 2 hours shows with 1 anchor. Weekends now have even less news, I’m hoping they put Saturday/Sunday Today at 7AM, to at least have an offering. Ion Plus (which began as Ion Life, and now exists as a streaming network carried on a few AVOD streamers like Samsung TV+ and is soon being added along with the mothership and five other Scripps diginets to FuboTV) was the one that carried drama reruns (and lifestyle shows, most of which were also Cancon in nature, before that). Shop Ion (which used that branding only as an identifier for program listings, never on-air) was the “infomercial farm”.1 point

Not that I want to toot my own horn, but I redid the history of channel 23 on Wikipedia. @Samantha redid the history of WBPX in Boston (which as WQTV was an unprecedented financial failure for the Church of Christ, Scientist, and as WABU had a good amount of local programming attached to it; it just struggled to find viewership at any point in its existence). WPXN and those two stations—and to a lesser extent WOAC, which indeed was sold to “Whitehead Media” and LMAed to Paxson—are the only ones in the Paxson chain that genuinely had history attached to them. The others were struggling or failed U indies which never had a chance in their respective markets, but were bought … mostly for the broadcast spectrum and must-carry on cable, which in 1996 hadn’t been upheld yet by SCOTUS. Inyo is a shell operator that explicitly exists so Scripps can continue to operate at the 39% national ownership cap for OTA stations. Ion Media didn’t have to worry about an existing chain of network affiliates (having sold off WPBF in 1996) when they set up their chain that also corresponded to the 39% limit. It’s the only reason why WVPX-WDLI was “spun off”.1 point
-
Scripps spent all that money for the broadcast spectrum, not the content featured. Replacing Ion Life (nothing but CanCon drama reruns) Ion Plus (an infomercial farm) and Qubo (the only Pax diginet that had some bit of care to it but ultimately felt neglected and didn’t have a chance) with Scripps’ Katz diginets absolutely constituted an upgrade.1 point

I just don't understand who watches TV today. It seems like there are a multitude of 1.0 rating shows, of no interest really to anybody. It's a miracle that can make all the numbers work and make a profit.1 point

I would refer to this topic: Why? Because, it's already been known what stations are rebranded as. All of them are known as CBS Local. It's just up to them if they want to keep the call letters or or numbers on top of it, and that all will be rebranded by Spring. The transition started last year, when the stations refreshed the website with the new names. You'll see the new station names on there. So I don't think it's necessary to guess when we already have the answer right in front of us. Tidbit: CBS Local is not a name I made up, by the way: https://www.cbsnews.com/cbslocal/0 points
