I really don’t understand why no one else uses the cuts KPIX uses. This one could slot in for that Enforcer headline bed5 points
-
I’m well aware of that; I’m also aware that KPIX uses more than one cut.4 points

I would lean toward it being a part of Gari's custom POP TV theme. That cut borrows heavily from a theme on Image News. It was not totally uncommon for Gari to mish-mash themes from the US syndicated packages together for clients abroad - they did it for PRO TV too.2 points

So I sent the general manager of WJZ a tweet about when they are doing the switchover to the graphics. Kathy Hostetter, who is GM of WJZ said that it's coming but in "pieces" like they did in 2018 (when Audra Swain was GM). We are looking at a possible Late May - Early June arrival of "CBS News Baltimore" as stated by her. WJZ is so behind in the times. In the mornings, they have a bottom third with just weather and traffic. No news or sports report at the bottom. They don't even have a bottom third for their 4, 5, 6, and 7pm newscasts. Hopefully that changes with the changeover to "CBS News Baltimore." Now I did ask her about "THE CUBE." - The Cube is in fact gone and is now the weather center but it's only partially finished... there are some upgrades coming to the studio and the newsroom as well coming soon. One of the meteorologists (Steve Sosna) did complain that the weather center is underdeveloped and it totally is. It's very underdeveloped and looks like just "soundproof walling" and computer screens. Very lazy like. -- I think KOVR is going to beat WJZ to the punch.2 points

They won't get anywhere as it is my understanding that their deal expired. Unless Diamond Sports has any options to renew the deal in their current contract, they're screwed. Bankruptcy courts will protect your position in current contracts that are in force, but they can't protect you in contracts that have expired.2 points

Sounds like Bally couldn't come to terms with the Phoenix Suns and they are going back to OTA, which I think is going to be great for all sports. Independent TV stations are a wasteland of crappy syndicated programming. Back in the old days sports was one of their prime focuses. It'll be nice to return to that again. https://arizonasports.com/story/3522489/bally-sports-arizona-owner-diamond-sues-suns-mercury/2 points

don't think the viewers of the Colbert or Fallon are interested in Gutfeld or anything else on FNC2 points

It's only an anchor on paper. It's a separate entity owned by Sinclair and others. I doubt that Sinclair was either pulling much money out of the RSNs (because they didn't have much money to distribute) or putting much money into them. The banks and people who bought the bonds are the ones eating the debt, or at least that's my educated guess.2 points

Combination of WCJB-TV being a 500 lb elephant in the market, and Gainesville being between Orlando and Jacksonville... and WJXT out of Jacksonville providing decent coverage.2 points

I forget that Gutfeld even exists. Turned it on for 20 seconds. Tattooed, backwards hat guy, draped in a wrestling belt: "Jill Biden isn't a real doctor," because she can't do surgery, or whatever shit. Annnnnnnd, pass.2 points

It also shows that the Ion stations aren't set in stone; if Scripps sees a good use for one, they'll use it.1 point
-
I doubt they would, but it would sort of make sense to have NBC News Now replace it on the subchannels it currently airs on1 point
-
Scripps signed a deal for the Vegas Golden Knights to have every locally televised game on broadcast tv: Games will air in Vegas on KMCC, which is currently an Ion station. As a result, Ion will get a new home in Vegas, as KMCC will be rebranded.1 point

So let's look at this from the management/money POV (not that that is the correct way, but I like being devil's advocate)- Don't fix what ain't broken. Money is a rare, mystical thing in broadcasting (preaching to the choir, I know...) But the other top O&O ('CCO) has used the same set for over a decade. With the branding and graphics change, the set got some minor updates to cover up the old logo (new hockey glass) but otherwise, they continue to use a set that has aged incredibly well even though it does not entirely match the new look and feel of the station (example: all the dark blue and copper looks a little out of place now). As long as the ratings remain, and the billing is there, CBS will pour CapEx money where they feel it's needed more- like building an entire operation in Detroit, blowing up LA, etc.)1 point

Yes, it's the investigative theme. When I hear it, I picture WBBM though. I wouldn't mind if they keep it. It goes well with their hard news/investigative style for the past few years.1 point

MARGINALLY better at 10? But the bar is so low. I'll give them a week or two to see if they iron out the most egregious kinks.1 point

I came here to post this. They look really good! They even updated the video backdrop scenes behind the anchors. The added color looks really good back there and on the L3s. Although, I don't see the local scenes like the Steelstacks that they had in the previous backdrop. It was about time, the LEX package was getting kind of old.1 point

On the air, Vivian would often talk about how 76º is the perfect temperature. To this day, I still associate that temperature with Vivian every single time I see a forecast of 76ºF.1 point
-
It looks so sloppily done. The mismatched 2, the microscopic flag above the L3, the misaligned text in the L3, dont even get me started on the hideous 7 day forecast graphics and the desk not matching anything....1 point

Hate it! Hate it! Nothing authentic about what WBBM did at all. KDKA, KYW, WCCO, and WWJ are all authentic! WBBM is just a mess.1 point
-
Good catch! Meanwhile, WCBS often incorrectly used the WBBM 2 in the previous look. Very similar but not the same!1 point
-
I guess Chicago is enough of a channel number market to warrant keeping the 2. Although I have no idea why they're using their 2 in the intro and the WCBS 2 in the bug.1 point

And on '07, Letterman and Ferguson were able to return sooner than the rest because World Wide Pants (Letterman's production company) owned the shows- not the networks and were able to create their own temporary agreement with the writers (Guessing Letterman himself must have funded that?). Not sure if any of the late night shows can pull that now with their respective networks owning production rights?1 point

Technically, Sinclair only provides services to both WNBW and WGFL under a master services agreement. WNBW is owned by MPS Media and operated by New Age Media, and WGFL is owned by New Age Media. Back in 2013 Sinclair tried to acquire them, but there were too many conflicts in several of their markets, so they worked out in an arrangement to where either service agreements were started or non-license assets were moved or acquired. This is how the FOX affiliation moved from WDSI to WTVC 9.2 in Chattanooga as well as in Tallahassee where it moved from WTLH to WTWC 40.2. It's basically a complicated spiderweb so Sinclair can be involved without owning the stations outright.1 point

Sinclair owns operations for CBS and NBC. ABC and FOX TV in Gainsville will be the local news left.1 point

He doesn't have any real broad-based appeal. Those that like him are already watching him so he is largely irrelevant. Now If we were talking about a personality like Joe Rogan, then that would be a different story. I could see this strike lasting a while (maybe early/mid August) given the timing. If it started, say, at the beginning of the tv season, there may have been heavy pressure to reach a deal. My guess is that tv executives will drag their feet on this as long as they can.1 point

Last week on Thursday 3/16, TWC quietly launched a new streaming show every weekday evening from 8pm-11pm ET. It's definitely available on all of their streaming apps (Roku, etc.), but it's unclear if it's also available on the streamtwc.com site or not, and I can't test it, because unlike the streaming apps, their website doesn't allow you to log in with your TV provider's credentials. You need a subscription to watch via the website. Anyway, the new streaming show is much more off-the-cuff and conversation-based than their TV product. One of the new personalities on the show is Heather Zons, who is one of their behind-the-camera meteorologists. She was given the opportunity to co-host this show on occasion. Last week, the Thursday/Friday shows featured her and Dr. Postel. This week, the Monday/Tuesday shows featured Carl Parker and Todd Borek. Curious to see who will host the rest of the week. It will be interesting to see what happens on Friday of this week when there's a big severe weather event in the forecast. Will they pre-empt the streaming-only show for standard live extended coverage on the linear channel, or will they direct all viewers to the streaming platform? By the way, the new show is so "experimental" right now that it doesn't even have a name. When they come back from break, they just say, "Welcome back to our new streaming show..."1 point

All I’m going to say is the newsroom format WWJ uses is looking better and better. Stations like KCBS and WBBM are just a hot mess. My goodness!!!0 points
-
Its a race to the bottom. WJZ is usually the last station to get a graphics update. Heck, they held on to their Chroma Cues Package from 1998 to 2018. They never ever used enforcer, which was a shame.0 points
-
Suffice it to say, there have been better executions of the new package; WBBM’s is the worst I’ve seen so far. However, as bad as this is, I can’t say I totally mind the sloppy and out of place usage of Enforcer, especially given how repetitive that one cut of Dimensional can get after a while. I really don’t understand why stations don’t use different cuts of Dimensional to at least have a little bit of musical versatility. That said, WBBM had a lot of time to roll this out properly, and they fumbled imo.0 points

Maybe the banner supplier was short? I remember that when the studio debuted, it was mentioned that the front part wasn't a screen. Also, big yikes. Well launched at 4pm, a disaster afterwards.0 points

is Gutfeld gonna make all the late night shows obsolete by taking advantage of that? lord forbid.0 points
