  1. The GrayOne package looks nice and all, but I still hate the main font. I thought I read somewhere it was chosen because it was "easy on the eyes?" And the fact that Nexstar has a package that uses it in many markets....

  2. A new logo as well. Hint to WCSC: Bring back the old red 5 logo, with that font for "Live" and "WCSC".

  3. From my third-hand understanding (from someone who had a conversation with someone who works within Scripps and is likely more informed on the matter than any of us), these changes will vary on a market-by-market basis. That includes small markets. I couldn't imagine Scripps totally doing away with anchors in their largest markets.

  4. Obviosity it's good that MMJ's are getting raises (right now they get paid significantly less than reporters and longtime photojournalists) but that likely means there will be no longer reporters that don't shot or photographers only. Even with all the new technology in the last few years, I still think photojournalists play a very important role in a newsroom, its better to have a second pair of eyes in large crowds or reporting in dangerous areas (near roads) and quality does suffer when one person does all of these jobs compared to when it took 3 people just a few years ago. None of these moves will make improvements to ratings or increase the quality of newscast. Outside of WPTV, longtime Scripps stations before the McGraw-Hill deal were in 2nd or 3rd place or even worse, stations like KSHB and KJRH ratings have been downright garbage most of the time. The thing is unless if you're a yes man Scripps has put in place their own management team shortly after acquiring new stations/groups and it doesn't matter how well the stations are preforming. Some of those ex Journal stations have gone through 2 or 3 scripps mangement teams already. WTMJ has been number 1 at 10pm only one time since Scripps has owned the station that came only a few months after the sale was approved largely under Journals former management team (news director, station manager) and before scripps made any big changes to the stations. Ratings have declined ever since and now WTMJ is in danger of CBS58 over taking them in the ratings in some day parts, I know this was long time ago but when I moved to Milwaukee in 2000 WTMJ had over 15 rating and CBS58 was at 0.7 at 10pm.

  5. Back in the day, KDKA's viewing area was referred to as "KD Country". It probably has some casual mentions now and then, but it's likely been shelved by all of the CBS mandates over the years...

  6. KTIV has gone to the GrayOne graphics. And they have a brand new production center as well.

  7. Sounds very similar to how TWC does during LOT8'S, by listing various cities by region.

  9. On weekend mornings during the hours that there's a Fox Business simulcast, Fox Weather First Weekend always takes longer breaks than normal Fox Weather programming in order to account for the longer breaks that take place on cable. To date, on the streaming side, Fox Weather always filled this extra break time with a musical interlude featuring live camera shots from cities around the country. Looks like this weekend, they've finally decided to change it up and air actual weather information during the musical interludes, which is way more useful than the live camera shots.

FMBC is moving WINK-TV/FM and its other broadcast properties to a new location in Fort Myers. https://winknews.com/2023/08/03/wink-tv-buys-new-headquarters-for-18-5-million-in-gateway/?fbclid=IwAR3Yyw6O2ZTVoHxkWrLeA89O1SMpK5Be8Ej_NekLrvaQg5PNhTHpSJndUFI_aem_AaMEvmtuQXLZePPjjqtvctHajRDZI7uLCJtrqfGxDuaq1AlZXiLX22uIxa63Kek3tRk&mibextid=Zxz2cZ

  12. I like Rosanna Scotto, and I agree with her on congestion pricing, but her bias really comes through on some news stories. This interview made it obvious. During the Lori era I noticed that Stokes always tried to keep it straight news woman whereas Rosanna inserted her personality and sometimes two cents into certain news matters. Her time with Greg was no exception. Has anyone else noticed this?

  13. WLNY actually appears to be running the same NCIS that's airing on WCBS/CBS Primetime. Do we think this was planned or a last-second scramble to fill airtime?

  15. It seems as of this week "News Now" is no longer- WLNY is running NCIS at 9pm, but guides aren't yet updated.

  16. Yeah I have no idea what the meaning of “small” is in this scenario either. I’m assuming markets 100 and below, but that’s just a guess on my part.

  17. I concur on the font - it just looks too “chunky” (the only word I could come up with). The “SIOUXLAND’S NEWSCHANNEL” font is fine, but there are much better general L3/GFX fonts available. Even going back to the basics (Helvetica/Univers/DIN 1451/Frutiger/Myriad/News Gothic) would look better, IMHO. Just for god’s sake, please do not use Arial!

  18. Have WABC or WTVD even announced they're doing a 10am newscast yet?!
    1 point
  19. I'm surprised it won't be a 3pm newscast. If WABC wasn't already producing Kelly & Mark I'd take a lifestyle show over yet another newscast.

  20. 6 years later, we have an answer. In the past 6 years, the promos in question were re-uploaded and, going down a rabbit hole in the Copyright Office search tonight led me to So... There we have it.

  21. Thing is Scripps News (awful name) and others like it are barely better than local news quality with unknown anchors and commentators. But in the last few years WTMJ has chased away most of its local news viewers and now it’s looking like they are doing the same for those that watch NBC network news shows and special reports.

  22. I get the logic of LMAD at 3 (counterprogram Jeopardy! on 7), but Drew seems more a 3pm show

  23. Ehh, some of them have deteriorated to third-fourth place (or never got out of the basement under previous ownership) and have entrenched management that should have been gone a decade ago. For many of those stations, without the police comms officer in charge of their Nixle/Facebook writing up police PR and the craven accident-chasing social media accounts they happily take content from, they'd be even worse off. I'm happy to see what Scripps can do, because the Journal deal was an albatross of badly-entrenched management (if you've seen my views over the years, you know exactly who I'm talking about) that they had to wait out before they could make their mark on those stations. Scripps News is a good product that needs more eyes on it and anything that gets away from the social media/Ring/drivecam 'filler news' model for their stations is welcome to me.

  24. An overdue upgrade for WINK and absolutely necessary for any possible sale in the future. No company in their right mind (or their insurance company) would take on that building after Ian. Oddly enough, they were committed to a future in that building until a few weeks before Ian. If you look at Fort Myers building permits - they shelved a plan just a few weeks before the storm to add a studio to the northwest side of the building—the part of the building closest to the creek and water.

  25. I still maintain that Savannah Guthrie is one of the weakest anchors in Today’s history BUT she really shines as part of NBC’s breaking news coverage given her legal background.

  26. The lack of live programs is probably more tied to production staff than on-air staff…
    1 point
  27. Dang, that's unfortunate. I never liked the way they postured Ian as the host of the show and Brigit as the "second fiddle". Didn't seem fair to take Brigit out of a host role and move her into that type of position. I wonder if that had anything to do with her departure.

  28. Apologies for the bump, But NewsNation has been obsessed with UFOs lately. How long before before they hire Giorgio A. Tsoukalos as an on-air personality?

  30. WBAY is obviously not taking the Dr. Phil reruns (or bumping them to 11am unless they're like 'they're yours' to WCWF or WACY); most of them look to be taking it at that pre-4 slot, which is for the best.

  32. Haven't seen an official confirmation, but someone mentioned in the WCBS thread that "News Now" may be cancelled soon, with the weekend editions officially scrapped. Will local stations then just regain control of their sister stations again? Pure speculation for now, since I haven't seen any article/source to confirm yet.

  34. You know this is a dying industry when all of these companies are being scooped up by banksters and bottom fisher low rent broadcasters like Byron Allen.

  35. Allen Media has a long way to go to decent respectability. Owning the Weather Channel is a good start, but the bottom line is Allen Media (and Entertainment Studios) are the slumlords of daytime TV with all of their cheap "court" shows.

  37. I believe it was dated 1983; I found it too, but I was always waiting to try to get in contact with Doug Benge and confirm. But I've been busy with my day job, so I haven't had much time to investigate these days. Benge was a composer based out of Indianapolis. The website for his company, BengeMark Music, was still up until some time last year. Not sure if he was using that name for his company in '83. NMSA updates info when they update it, I guess.

  39. I argue I'd rather not know the anchors for a news network because that means they're working there to work and report news and be a pure product like the AP/UPI was for newspapers. If I don't know much about an anchor or reporter, that's a good thing, and I was happy with their coverage on Thursday rather than the dunk culture that's become network news. At least Scripps is a trustworthy name and staid, rather than "NewsNation", which is obviously knocking off the Fox Nation name.

  40. Yeah, the whole story should've been posted. LMAD is moving to 3, and I'm assuming the already-hour-long 9am news will air OTA. The 9:30 has just been streaming-only til now.
    0 points
  41. So LMAD back to 9 then? They’re getting rid of their 9am news? Or expanding their 9am news to an hour and putting LMAD at 3? The latter would be unprecedented for the Central Time Zone. I guess most likely LMAD back to 9 and starting a 3pm news.

  42. It's 12:43am/ET. And I can't believe that Fox 5 is doing a live late newscast after the All-Star game. They usually "pre-tape" a one half-hour show after the game when it goes past 11pm. Are they doing this for sweeps?......

  43. Yikes, Natasha posted on IG that she and Steve are now anchoring at 6pm as well as 5 and 10. That means that Teresa Priolo got the boot from an anchor spot AGAIN. I thought that she was doing a great job at 6. She can't possibly be happy after they did it to her in the morning and now 6pm. Update -- I see that Teresa reported a story from the studio on Monday's 6pm show.
