I’ve reached the point where I don’t want to hear anything about these 4 ever again lol.2 points

I see "Local 8" as a natural transition there with "Local First" as their slogan, and since they already have one "Live Five", it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to see KVVU become that too. And I don't understand why dumping network branding is a bad thing at all.2 points
-
Easy, they change to “WVUE 8” or “News 8” or something along those lines.2 points

This is absolutely awful. First, the fact that they are using red tends to indicate Breaking News, which is exactly what Alert insinuates. This is why First Alert Weather has always struck me as bad branding for weather too. You're going to burn out your audience if all news product is branded as "First Alert" instead prioritizing the content. Ultimately, having clear brand and design language is really needed to inform viewers and boost ratings... This won't do it.2 points

I can't see how stations like FOX8 in New Orleans will ever do this.1 point

Ever since Fox picked up Smackdown, they have been marketing it under the Fox Sports banner. The show even has a page on the Fox Sports website. Likewise, AEW was marketed as a product of Turner Sports during the WarnerMedia/AT&T era.1 point

WCBS actually had The People's Court at 4pm before Judy's return to Channel 2 in 2006 (after 7 years on WNBC). Before that newscast ended completely in 2003, it was truncated to a half-hour at 4:30pm. Filling that first half hour in Jan. 2002 was the Weakest Link. And that got replaced the following fall by Millionaire.1 point

For that to happen, the other networks would have to really let themselves go. It's a question if and or when ABC. NBC, CBS and Fox sell their namesake networks to other owners. The CW as it is is purely a secondary network with station owners primarily operating it as an alternative or secondary station to their primary channel. They would only "gain" viewers (or not lose them as quickly as the others) if the others have major losses.1 point

Inside the NFL could move to Wednesdays no problem. Two and a half weeks ago.1 point

Thanks for your insight. I’m sure many of the people working at those stations are taking your advice as we speak. It wouldn’t surprise me if Coastal has enough of a notorious reputation for people to know that it’s time to haul ass for the exit asap if they’re buying your station. It’s a shame that the sale to Forum didn’t go through. It may not have been ideal for FCC regulators, but given how the big affiliate owners use brazen loopholes to own multiple big four affiliates in much bigger markets (including Gray in Fargo itself), I think it’s ridiculous that the FCC thinks a group like Coastal serves the public interest better than a group like Forum.1 point

I think they are doing that to some extent, at least I've noticed John (and formely Elise) signs off with the anchor on the 8am/9am shows as a sort of 'cohost'. Although it would be cool to assign him to different interviews too. Also given the press release it seems the 8am will be permanently hosted by Chris and not Mary?1 point

On Ch 2 or 55? If you mean Ch 2, hopefully not. Judge Judy would probably do better in the ratings. I'm surprised they put Hot Bench in that slot and pushed Judy back to 3 rather than leaving Judy at 4 and Hot Bench at 3.1 point

It’s important to note that the bottom-third ESPN graphic known as the ESPN BottomLine, which you’ll see a picture of here… actually mentioned The CW when a football (now basketball, found that out while watching College Gameday this morning) game was gonna be broadcast on the channel. So probably not what you’re thinking.1 point

It's something to work and bulid on. It's not bad. It's not great either. -- Matt1 point

Courtside Saturday on The CW has officially “tipped off” today with Notre Dame vs #8 Miami and #7 Duke vs Georgia Tech. No pictures yet, but I can tell it ain’t the ESPN College Basketball graphics they’re using.1 point

Red flags here. 1. The station owner is a POLITICIAN. That’s a disaster waiting to happen. 2. He fires more than half of the news crew the station started with. 3. You WILL end up surrendering and working for news stations in other cities. 4. Your budget for newscasts goes DOWN THE DRAIN. Don’t be like KVRR/KQDS. (I sound like one of those children’s advice posters lol)1 point

If KRDK or KNGF got them otherwise, it would probably be the best-case scenario. But for now going by how ABC/Fox Alaska is effectively a Superfund site outside ABC and WoF/J! (they'll be out ASAP) and KTWO now standing for the number of local employees it has, these stations are doomed.1 point

As someone who worked for a station bought by Coastal Television only to get terminated 2 weeks after the fact. LEAVE....NOW!!!!!!!!!!! They come in with all of these promises saying they will make the newsroom much better, invest in a lot of new equipment, provide better resources, the CEO (Bill Fielder) who is also a politician (if that gives you any idea as to what kind of person he is) will act like he is your best friend, has your interest at heart, then when he takes over he eliminates about 90% of the newsroom staff. He will offer you a severance of 1 weeks pay and an extra weeks pay if you sign paperwork promising not to discuss what happened. Spoiler alert, none of us did, and we all took to the competition and newspaper. This company makes Sinclair look like a 5 star company to work for. The guy who owns this is seriously scum. To those who work at KVRR and KQDS, get your resume and reel ready and be prepared to be on the chopping block if you do not leave immediately.1 point

That's terrible, terrible news for those stations. Even Byron Allen or Nexstar would have been much better.1 point

The Advocate is reporting that WVUE is talking with the New Orleans Pelicans to air a small selection of games. This is apparently a result of a one-year deal Diamond Sports signed with the NBA to allow teams to offer up to ten games on over the air stations in exchange for staying with Bally Sports for the season. Basically testing the waters that the Suns and Jazz are already swimming in (along with the NHL's Golden Knights and Coyotes).1 point

I wonder what it would be like if Hearst and/or Graham owned a lot of small market stations as well though. Combined, they have only one station in markets below #100.1 point

It aired at 4pm for a long time on some stations, including WBBM; like Inside Edition they push out editions every half hour with updates if needed up to a certain time.1 point

I didn’t think ET was allowed to air before 6pm similar to Wheel of Fortune.1 point

There just needs to plain be a rule that RTC announcements are limited to commercial time and that's it. They're not on the level of EAS/NOAA warnings and non-applicable to folks who don't have these providers, and just generally interfere with watching a program. It's absurd with cable disputes, but at least there they have the excuse of having to transmit to multiple broadcasters. There's less excuse with both a local TV station, and the ability to just not send the ticker on a certain provider if you have that direct connection to the headend, and it simply shouldn't appear for OTA viewers outside Dish disputes (because they're still in 1982 as far as signal acquisition).1 point

Watching WGN now during their "9 at 9" countdown and they are blowing past the "15 second" rule on content. They must have an expansive royalty budget, and I'm glad that Nexstar hasnt clamped down on it like they and others have done in recent years! WJW has been another that has frequently used a lot of popular music as bumpers in their shows, but this may be sort of a package they buy that has the music pre-cleared.1 point
-
That is surprising, usually from 7-9 am, and 9am afterwards, the content outside of the top and bottom of the hour gets lighter with lots of banter, "roving reporter" content and some stations like WGN making it all their own. I like their "9 at 9" countdown of stuff at 9am. Smaller markets, especially those that are duopoly partners tend to keep it more newsy if they're counter programming the national shows.1 point

Oh, this again. Fun fact: It's been longer since WPVI tried changing music (27 years) than it was from when they started using MCTYW to when they tried changing it (24 years.) Only on TVNT will a graphics package or set that's older than 5 years be declared "ancient", but a music package used for 50+ years is something that shouldn't be touched. A lot has changed in the last 27 years (namely declining viewership!) and I suspect that a subtle modernization of the music (the 1996 version was anything but subtle, it was a drastic change that tried to make MCTYW into a serious, The Mission-style orchestral news package, which it is definitely not) wouldn't result in the "riots in the street" people around here like to imagine happening. We know they have selection of 615-made cuts they've been using for a few years now, I would imagine most viewers are now used to hearing "the music" that's not specifically the 1972 version.1 point

It's no secret Nexstar is likely running tight budget with The CW since they are trying to make the network profitable again. So it makes sense they wouldn't want to go over budget just to create a full graphics package for their College Football telecasts in a month and a half. They'll eventually do their own graphics package when they get to year 2 of the ACC telecasts. They just need more time to create a full graphics package. You can't rush perfection, unless you're willing to pay a lot for it.1 point
-
Bally, being a competing sports network was able to port their graphics package to Raycom to produce the ACC games they did in the past. As for the CW? Seems like Nexstar didn't want to pay the extra $50 to come up with another graphics package.1 point

The CW is a competing OTA network to ABC where those graphics usually air the cw just said to espn we will take your template and graphics and just slap cw on it1 point

Is that Arial I see? Hope this is a test and not made it on the air.0 points
