The fact that it's launching as a cable channel says a lot about who the target audience is: older people who are more likely to still have cable TV.3 points

A better look at the updated logo/typeface. MSNBC seems to be using the opportunity to do very small graphics updates, they have a new breaking news stinger that is similar to the old one but again just slightly different. They also updated all the virtual elements used in studios. Worth noting that “Reports” is now in the NBC font, maybe a sign of things to come.2 points

Less than 15 minutes into the GOP Debate on NewsNation/The CW... A couple audio issues that for a small market Sinclair station, it would just be Wednesday night, but really make this national debate minor league. Mics not adjusted before going live, a moderator coughing and clearing their throat while a candidate is giving their remarks...1 point

Finally!!!!!! Ive been wondering why they kept using that wall. It looked terrible on air. Its been like that for a very long time it was frankly embarrassing how bad it looked. And it was making me think they are having financial issues. That looks so much better.1 point

I’m not sure I see news as low effort. People do put in work to do their parts and do it well. No one I know in that space dials it in. Are there exceptions? Heck, of course. There’s not an industry where that isn’t true somewhere. But people put in the effort to present content that gets viewers in a world where viewership is ever-more fragmented. But that’s just me.1 point

This is absolutely awful. First, the fact that they are using red tends to indicate Breaking News, which is exactly what Alert insinuates. This is why First Alert Weather has always struck me as bad branding for weather too. You're going to burn out your audience if all news product is branded as "First Alert" instead prioritizing the content. Ultimately, having clear brand and design language is really needed to inform viewers and boost ratings... This won't do it.1 point

Ever since Fox picked up Smackdown, they have been marketing it under the Fox Sports banner. The show even has a page on the Fox Sports website. Likewise, AEW was marketed as a product of Turner Sports during the WarnerMedia/AT&T era.1 point

For that to happen, the other networks would have to really let themselves go. It's a question if and or when ABC. NBC, CBS and Fox sell their namesake networks to other owners. The CW as it is is purely a secondary network with station owners primarily operating it as an alternative or secondary station to their primary channel. They would only "gain" viewers (or not lose them as quickly as the others) if the others have major losses.1 point

Totally agree. Let her acknowledge that she won't cover the controversy because that's her dad, move on, and let her do her job. I miss the days when weekend mornings was Alex Witt for like 4 hours straight. Glad to see she's getting some good airtime in the afternoon.1 point

Thanks for your insight. I’m sure many of the people working at those stations are taking your advice as we speak. It wouldn’t surprise me if Coastal has enough of a notorious reputation for people to know that it’s time to haul ass for the exit asap if they’re buying your station. It’s a shame that the sale to Forum didn’t go through. It may not have been ideal for FCC regulators, but given how the big affiliate owners use brazen loopholes to own multiple big four affiliates in much bigger markets (including Gray in Fargo itself), I think it’s ridiculous that the FCC thinks a group like Coastal serves the public interest better than a group like Forum.1 point

It’s just how the schedule worked out this time. David and Liz have filled in at 11pm before.1 point

Red flags here. 1. The station owner is a POLITICIAN. That’s a disaster waiting to happen. 2. He fires more than half of the news crew the station started with. 3. You WILL end up surrendering and working for news stations in other cities. 4. Your budget for newscasts goes DOWN THE DRAIN. Don’t be like KVRR/KQDS. (I sound like one of those children’s advice posters lol)1 point

As someone who worked for a station bought by Coastal Television only to get terminated 2 weeks after the fact. LEAVE....NOW!!!!!!!!!!! They come in with all of these promises saying they will make the newsroom much better, invest in a lot of new equipment, provide better resources, the CEO (Bill Fielder) who is also a politician (if that gives you any idea as to what kind of person he is) will act like he is your best friend, has your interest at heart, then when he takes over he eliminates about 90% of the newsroom staff. He will offer you a severance of 1 weeks pay and an extra weeks pay if you sign paperwork promising not to discuss what happened. Spoiler alert, none of us did, and we all took to the competition and newspaper. This company makes Sinclair look like a 5 star company to work for. The guy who owns this is seriously scum. To those who work at KVRR and KQDS, get your resume and reel ready and be prepared to be on the chopping block if you do not leave immediately.1 point

That's terrible, terrible news for those stations. Even Byron Allen or Nexstar would have been much better.1 point

Watching WGN now during their "9 at 9" countdown and they are blowing past the "15 second" rule on content. They must have an expansive royalty budget, and I'm glad that Nexstar hasnt clamped down on it like they and others have done in recent years! WJW has been another that has frequently used a lot of popular music as bumpers in their shows, but this may be sort of a package they buy that has the music pre-cleared.1 point

Traditionalism makes me want to say no but realistically the industry is going to have to evolve and adapt. This isn’t the worst idea.1 point

Interesting. This was a year before Media General sold WDEF to Morris, who basically maintained the Media General style at the time, well into their transition into HD. That look at the time was originally done by VDO, and later brought in house by Media General, with some additions from other stations, mainly WFLA. Perhaps the look was done "in-house" by a former employee who left Media General?1 point

I think that'll be the first time in their history that they'll be cutting anything from their newscast schedule.1 point

Beginning September 11, WBTS/Boston will cut-back its morning news from a 4am start to a 5am start. Early Today will run from 3:30am-5am.1 point

Not sure if there is a timer tone, but when they show the full moderator desks, you can see the "stoplight" timers at the bottom corners of the desks. Graphics wise... Smart move putting the "NewsNation" logo right in the middle... The L3 will likely be cut out on the cable/morning news shows, but will be prominently featured in the TikTok/Reels clips.0 points

Somehow missed these posts and just noticed the updated logo tonight. I think the typeface looks better... the previous one felt kind of random. Not a huge fan of the lack of the white outline around the feathers but that's what it is now.0 points

No, Enforcer is not being retired. The decision by many stations to go with Stephen Arnold's CBS Local has more to do with the larger station groups (i.e., Gray, Nexstar, Scripps, etc.) choosing to go with SAM tracks as opposed to anything under the Warner-Chappell umbrella (Gari, 615 Music, Newsmusic Central) over the last few years.0 points
