That's the Meredith lifestyle package. Gray kept it after the purchase and used it for their stations.3 points

I don’t quite remember Katie walking away as much as CBS moving in a different direction, similar to what is happening now and has happened the last 5 or so anchors. Not disputing that sexism is rampant across media industries but I don’t think it’s had much to do with failure of the Evening News and particularly Norah. She’s just bad.3 points

Allen Media seems to be circling the drain in a very bad way. No wonder Tegna and others passed on their investment. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2024/8/12/the-beginning-of-the-end-for-allen-media https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2024/8/12/hiring-freeze-newscasts-dumped3 points

I loved Katie on Today, but she is totally out of touch on this one. Not to be political, but Katie habitually inserts sexism and feminism into many issues. Of the 3 evening programs CBSEN has most frequently had women as an anchor of the weekday broadcast (herself, Chung, and O'Donnell). Even in her book, Katie blamed her failure at the evening news on sexism rather than her softening the tone of the broadcast and adding editorials. Comparatively I dont recall that much criticism of Diane Sawyer's tenure on WNT. This isn't an issue of representation. Women may not be the anchors in the evening but they are elsewhere. Face the Nation, CBS Mornings and CBS Sunday Morning are all lead by female anchors. The Today Show has dual female anchors, Robin Roberts is basically the face of GMA, Savannah dual anchors a lot of NBC's breaking coverage. Not to mention female majority anchor teams on local stations across the country.3 points

It was truly the most pointless of the Bally channels outside of when FSN had the Carolinas channel around the Bobcats/Hornets. That team HAD the best arrangement by having their games fill time on News 14 (now Spectrum News), but of course RSN greed had to get in the game. And it was likely in that Cox-dominated market that the Pels saw the writing on the wall and that Bally had much less leverage with Cox.2 points

I would imagine Gray would start their own regional sports subchannel in Pelicans territory since they have a station in every market that it covers. This would include the entire state of Louisiana, Coastal and South Mississippi and Mobile.2 points

So, that means Bally Sports New Orleans will go bye-bye, since the channel was built around the Pelicans. Since the Oklahoma City Thunder are also among the five NBA teams that it is/was considering dropping before the 2024-25 season starts (the Pelicans were among them), it wouldn’t be the last Bally Sports network centered around a single local major league team that will be on the chopping block, as Bally Sports Oklahoma will likely follow suit, if Griffin becomes the Thunder’s long-term broadcast partner (a couple of Gray stations, including KSCW and KSWO, were among those that carried the games sublicensed to KSBI/KOTV-DT2).2 points

The irony is that it may work - in the other direction...mentioned on Speculatron.1 point

Yellow and blue on a morning show... how original. The old wooden look was definitely unique. Was it the prettiest for the morning? Probably not, but it was unique.1 point

So the "News on MY9" is a repeat of the hour long 6 O'Clock News on FOX5, and even says "previously recorded" on the upper left corner of the screen with the correct time and temperature on the FOX5 bug.1 point

Just saw that Katie Couric is calling out CBS for the forthcoming changes to the CBS Evening News. First off, she was the one who walked away from CBS. She's something else. Norah stepping away is the best decision for the Evening News. I see this as a great opportunity to get the place back on track. That broadcast has been in third place forever, something had to change. Moving to Washington was also not the answer. That was done for Norah to be close to her family. Not a good reason to move an entire broadcast to another city. John and Maurice will do fine. This is a business first and foremost. Not sexism, just plain business. Too much money was spent on the wrong things in the past. Those days are over. Using their own people at their O&Os is the best way to start covering the news of the day.1 point

It looks like that Dr. Phil/Merit Street News block is part of the normal Saturday night TCT network schedule, and WTLJ is a TCT O&O. Based solely on a few cursory glances at RabbitEars, it doesn't appear that Merit Street is on a subchannel of WTLJ, or any TCT-owned station for that matter.1 point

Alix Kendall is leaving KMSP (Minneapolis-St. Paul) in September after 25 years of anchoring the Morning News. Says it's not a retirement but focusing on "a new chapter" which will include screenwriting. https://www.fox9.com/news/alix-kendall-retirement-fox-9-morning-news?utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwY2xjawEm995leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHZCao4ih4crmkgCmyGwoOJZ3xQMw3m9LNZufoWS-CLU691tU6-o2HOaUDA_aem_UoJYZOJWDdJPTHBwI46fqQ1 point

To the surprise of no one, WCBS kept the same NFL on CBS graphics for 2024, which I would have to think will be the final year they'll be using them. Usually when CBS debut new graphics every few years when they have the Super Bowl, WCBS usually keeps the same graphics for the preseason then switches to the new ones the next season. I imagine it'll be the same scenario for WNYW come next preseason, even if Fox debuts new graphics for SB LIX, which I doubt will happen since their NFL graphics will only be 2 years old come September. Speaking of the Giants switching from WNBC to WNYW, why haven't they posted anything on the internet regarding an announcement? I looked it up and couldn't find anything. Was this announced in private or something?1 point

CNN as well despite any assurance that they are a genuine news channel. If the channels' day is filled with punditry and opinion of ANY kind, that ship has sailed. Sadly, the concept of a "news channel" is long gone. The only thing that even comes close are the "live" variants like NBC News Now and Fox's LiveNow.1 point

Fox News and MSNBC aren't news channels. They exhibit political punditry (opinion). They can brand themselves however they like, but just because they call themselves "news" doesn't mean they are news. Call a potato whatever you want, but it does not make it a banana.1 point

I say yes.. Especially since they have a job posting for a met... She should have gotten Reece's spot, and send Reece to weekends as originally planned1 point

A little bit far off, but it's been confirmed it'll be CBS Sports producing the Christmas games for Netflix. Likely we'll get both games locally in-market on the CBS-owned stations (including WJZ and KDKA). CBS talent is yet to be confirmed to be used. And no changes to the Packers package this year; still in house with the same look and CBS production.0 points
