KFVS 12 and Heartland News are the brands (general and news, respectively), “Your First Alert Station” is meant to be the slogan.

But adding F1ST ALERT STATION only confuses it. Is it F1ST ALERT STATION or Heartland News? Both are branding. Neither is a slogan.

If this helps to explain it any, KOCO has used a sign-off for its storm coverage for about the past decade, “We bring you the First Alert”, that better conveys what “Your First Alert Station” is supposed to mean: that they’ll give you the “first alert” to severe weather and breaking news events when they happen. Ironically, while Gray owns the trademark to the “First Alert” brand, Hearst-owned KOCO was one of the earliest (maybe the earliest) users of the moniker in local TV news, having adopted the name for its on-air weather warning system (purported to be the first such system to be automated, allowing it to receive and display NWS alerts once they’re issued) and storm chasing units in 1989, when Gannett owned the station.

That's sad. He was one of the good ones. You could always count on him to be a class act on weekends with the occasional and unexpected quippy remark.

But that's my point. What does Your First Alert Station mean? It's like hearing Your Gliblorm Fwam Station. It means nothing.

If its in the wrong area, I apologize. Please move it. But I wanted to share this here.

I'm human and we can all make mistakes like put things in the wrong thread. Thanks for being perfect and taking the passive-aggressive way to help (and deleting your original gripe from the looks of it)!

What's also excessive is how the Los Angeles market collectively has newscasts filled between the hours of 4am and 11:35pm weekdays (with the exceptions for time off in the 1pm hour for "Off the Clock," which is technically produced by the KTLA news department as well as 7:30pm).

I agree. It’s a nice evolution of the diagrid graphics (even if the diagrid isn’t fully visible in the new ones), and they do fall in line with the teaser graphics that have been rolled out over the past few months.

Same energy:

They'll never admit to the trades, "we went with a logo that hadn't seen the light of day since NBC was thrown back to Cleveland in 1965" because it would be insane to say. BUT it's pretty clear they looked long and hard at the station's history, saw that "3" and felt it would be better than the Westinghouse font or that Helvetica "3"... they went with the throwback on purpose.

I'm looking at Logopedia, and the new '3' that KYW is using looks to be a redrawn version of the '3' used from 1963-1965 when KYW was still WRCV (and affiliated with NBC).

Something they need to tweak with the Next Weather graphics, the logo and banner are green like the rest of the graphics but the forecast boxes and other elements like that are still the default blue and it clashes badly.

It looks like someone dug up the old WRCV logo which was used before NBC got yeeted from owning channel 3 in 1965.

WSB Television and Atlanta Television will never be the same without Jovita Moore. Prayers and condolences go out to her family and her extended family at Channel 2 Action News. And Jovita... Former KUSA Anchor & Investigative reporter Ward Lucas passed away Sunday at 75, no word on his cause of death. He was part of a Netflix Documentary on the serial killer Ted Bundy, he worked at KUSA-TV from 1976--2009 when he retired, and before KUSA he started his career at Seattle's KIRO-TV from 1974-1976..
