  1. Jesus those L3s are awful. They paid a design firm to make those — let that sink in. Yes, I think they should merge or at least have CNBC simulcast CNBC World after 7pm. Show foreign market coverage like Bloomberg does, instead of Shark Tank and American Greed.

  2. Agreed. But CNBC should be merged with CNBC World. I mean, wouldn't CNBC's target audience prefer to follow coverage of international markets instead of repeats of years-old episodes of Shark Tank? At the very least, having the international coverage in the same feed as domestic would avoid silliness such as what happens to CNBC World's non-HD feed on Spectrum: Yup, it gets squished to 4:3 and pillarboxed. Bleh!

  3. I watched the CNBC coverage they posted online when this was breaking, and there was no mention of MSNBC losing money. Comcast never said in their shareholder comments about MSNBC losing money. Are you sure you heard correctly? They talked about how cable networks are a drain on the company due to subscriber declines, but there was no mention of MSNBC being unprofitable or losing money. None of the media stories covering this, including outlets very hostile to MSNBC, have mentioned MSNBC losing money. It's only this discussion forum where MSNBC losing money is considered fact.

  4. I'm more annoyed by the aspect ratio being screwed up than by it not being in HD. And I'm pretty sure CNBC World isn't mostly after-hours trading.

  5. Or just air NBC News Now; we're literally talking about thousands of viewers with channels like CNBC, FBN, Bloomberg and Cheddar. I have never understood the obsession with keeping primetime audiences when said audience is gone now. After hours trading is just all meme stock crypto bros no advertiser wants anyways. And the reason it's still in SD, even on the app is to drive people to the $30/month Pro app like it's still 2005 and nobody is streaming regularly.

  6. Vanessa covered the weather yesterday AM and today was Tony again for both morning and noon. Not a good sign for John Elliott fans unless he magically pops up in the next week.. Such a shame for the way WCBS has tossed him to the side; just as they did for Dana Tyler and Andrea Grymes.

  7. I can confirm via a source that WSVN 7 is the only South Florida station with a brick-and-mortar presence in both counties, in way of studio and news bureau. WFOR is still in Doral but doesn't have a Broward bureau while WTVJ and WPLG's studios are in Broward but don't have a Miami-Dade news bureau. WSVN has theirs in NBV (for now, Miramar is coming) with a news bureau in FTL (again, for now). I was also able to confirm that even when WSVN moves to Miramar, they'll convert part of their NBV space into a small news bureau for Miami-Dade.

  10. Some are ridiculously large, like Denver includes areas more than 500 miles away from the city, which is for no reason at all IMO (those are sparsely populated areas in the High Plains often in areas where small-market stations are nearby).

  11. Meanwhile, I have a feeling Syfy may be going away in the next year. The channel's had a limited amount of new original shows for a while now, but it's currently down to just three shows, one of which has yet to premiere. Also, one recently-canceled show, Chucky, was simulcast on USA Network, while another show, Resident Alien, is moving to that channel altogether. Most of Syfy's schedule consists of sci-fi, fantasy, horror, thriller, and action movies. It could easily be merged into USA Network and its channel space sold off.

  12. As I read in the Variety article, it would be very complicated. MSNBC and CNBC are part of NBC News and helps pay for news gathering (they are very profitable). USA is a vehicle for NBC Sports now that they shut down their own sports channel. Plus they play a big role with Peacock. Universo is tied in with Telemundo, and hosts sports including Spanish simulcasts of SNF and probably SNNBA. Could E!, Bravo, Oxygen and Universal Kids command enough interest in a spinoff? They are right to look at it as an option, but anyone thinking this is a done deal is way too premature.

  13. Writing on the wall for EAM, I suppose; they're realizing the overhead for a web presence is much less than that of a television station, and I assume the proceeds will only help the ministry. Gotta be a bit shocked they went to Nexstar when VCY America and TCT still in an acquiring mood; they could've easily $1-and-debt'ed the operation out to another godcaster, but they found a good commercial offer. And it also gives Nexstar a chance to see if moving around channel numbers to use WJW's 8 on UHF works, and just have everything hosted off the 55 transmitter, sacrificing VHF 8 to 3.0 lighthouse duty.

  14. If this sale goes through, WBNX is about to be a sister station to WJW and a CW O&O. https://www.tvtechnology.com/news/nexstar-expands-presence-in-cleveland-buying-wbnx I guess hell is finally freezing over.

  15. With WJW's ownership, does acquiring WBNX now give them the UHF discount in Cleveland? They've been trying to move WJW back to UHF going back to LocalTV....I could see this as a move to increase cap space if it prevails.... Weigel will probably take back their subchannels, and what's left could all end up on WBNX's frequency. The Sinclair diginets will probably get sent packing as well.

  16. Already decided. WUAB next fall will be part RESN and part MyNetworkTV. https://tvnewscheck.com/programming/article/more-live-local-sports-my-network-programming-on-wuab-cleveland-next-fall/

  17. I've always figured that WBNX was going to be someone's duopoly partner in Northeast Ohio, it was just a matter of time.

  19. Sheesh, WBNX must've really pissed off The CW (or vice-versa) for the contract to be cut off early like that. Either that or the network hates smaller owners. After all, we'd seen this before with The CW and other networks, where the smaller owner was shafted in favor of the big boys like Gray, Nexstar, and Tegna. In fact, when ABC abandoned family-owned small marked station WKPT in favor of a Nexstar-owned station, ABC all but stated that they wanted to ally themselves with a big corporation and that the loyal family-owned station could go to hell for all they cared (obviously, they didn't say it that way, but considering the tone of the announcement they might as well have).

  20. All of these talk shows just goes to show you how all of the other major Cleveland stations have cut back on their syndicated shows for newscasts or their other inbred efforts (cough cough Scripps, cough cough Tegna...)

  21. Let's say this type of thing happened with a station owner of a major group. The investors would be calling for their heads, advertisers would pull their accounts, and the FCC could strip them of their licenses. It all depends on the "abuse" aspect....if it was consensual, that's one thing. It's a sin in it's context, but that's another ballgame in the eyes of the FCC beyond their jurisdiction. This saga will probably keep on going until Rev. Angley goes upstairs, or the money runs dry and the sheriff sale sells the property to the highest bidder....

  25. Hide your children! But seriously, you would think that Scripps, Tegna, or Tribune would hop at sending a Brinks truck to Cuyahoga Falls.

  26. And he's 96. When will he just give it up by 1) retire and 2) sell WBNX-TV? That station is desperate for a new owner to get away from the deeply and severely troubled Angley ministries.

  27. If WBNX fails, it would be one of the most visible TV station failures of our time. Usually there's a buyer waiting in the wings.. in case that happens, they usually light up some form of (worthless) programming. There's no record of foreclosure or a sherriff sale, but recent events paint a picture that the station (and ministry) defaulted on a loan took out 5 years ago.

  28. This is much worse than the Evansville situation where WTVW had to step in as WAZE's utter incompetence forced the CW to put the affiliation there ASAP. At this point I see only one fate for WBNX; DTV America or CNZ buys it and turns it into the market's place for subchannels of last resort (like WIWN and WTSJ serve in Milwaukee) while burning off the syndication contracts for a year or two (WUAB just grabs a bunch of the better stuff and ditches their bottom feeder shows). They're the only ones who would pay whatever Angley wants for it; the other three would pay much less and likely use it for something more inane like giving the Justice Network full-market coverage.

  29. I think WUAB carries MyNetworkTV from midnight to 2:00 a.m. now. And, yeah, you would think that there would be a two- to three-month leeway for the switch. The fact there was only five days notice that CW programming would be moving to WUAB is a little fishy.

  30. The only reason why WUAB gave up The WB was because of their contracts to run both Indians and Cavs games OTA, which reaked havoc on juggling two networks with (at the time) partial schedules. Neither of those exist now, and MyTV is so irrelevant that it can be cleared between 1am-3am and no one would know otherwise. But switching affiliations this coming Monday? The CW must know something about WBNX that we don’t if they made a switch this abrupt.

  31. And it's once again a dual affiliate-- it carried both the WB and UPN from 1995-97 until WBNX got the WB. This brings it full circle in a way.
